So....the US Open is underway. my pick to win? Who else but Roger Federer. I would love to have another agassi vs. federer final match, in which federer win in four set /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

anyway, a lot of people are comparing roger federer to tiger woods for the obvious reason: they both dominate their respective sports. But the question is, who is the greater athlete?

Both Woods and Federer are amazing athletes. Woods have transcended the world of golf, and Federer is having way with tennis.

To be honest, i never like golf. i though that it was a boring sport which only the rich and famous are allow to play. And i have much respect for tiger woods for changing that aspect of golf, opening the door the minorities.

What Federer had accomplished, Sampras had done it before. But i love the way federer plays tennis. His game is so smooth and perfect.

So who is the better athlete? In golf, woods is competing against the golf course. In tennis, Federer is competing against another tennis player, and at times can be very cruesome. In term of dominance, Woods at 30 has won 12 majors, while federer, 25, is on his way to earn his nineth grand slams. But then again, Woods can still play golf at 60, while federer might reach his peak at 30 and then slow down. In my opinion, Federer is the better athlete just because of the competition and the physical demands that he endured in his tennis career.

so is Federer the Tiger Woods of tennis or is Woods the Roger Federer of golf?
    you decide......

When Tiger Woods smacks Federer's scapula with a nine-iron, the world will know THE answer.

Neither Golf nor Tennis is my sport. I just have a Sportscenter knowledge of both.

Well in terms of overall athleticism, I think that tennis players are better athletes then golf players, or perhaps I should say, tennis is a more athletic sport than golf.

However, Tiger Woods is a better golf player than Federer is a tennis player. I don't mean that Federer is not great. It's just that Tiger Woods is so dominant, that he is the talk of the country. No one beats him in a showdown, NO ONE. If at any point the golf match becomes a showdown between two people Tiger wins. If he is tied for the lead by the last day he always (100%) wins. Bets of "Tiger vs. The Field" are common, and the closer the match is the more the smart money favors Tiger.

Darrius, what you said are true. Of course tiger woods have the edge over federer jsut because he has accomplish more, both in terms of major titles and influence. But in the recent year, federer has shown that he is more dominate in tennis than tiger in golf.

Federer could volley himself over a pin flag on a clay green and land WITH a backhand to Woods' patella.

Fuck that! I've had enough of this guy. Screw you CONDOR! If that is your real name. I had a pet condor once. Little fucker fell out of a tree and I nursed it back to health, finding the bastard worms and the whole bit. I knitted little sweaters for him in the winter and took him bungie jumping to try and teach him to fly. Then one day I came home and he was performing cunnilingus on my girlfriend, which is really sick when you think about the beak-to-tongue ratio on a large carnivorous bird. Since then I've seen red at the sight of the word CONDOR. Nothing personal, homewrecker.

Oh yeah, Federer might be the best ever (debate all day), but Tiger Woods meant a paradigm shift for golf.

thanks s-aki, that was a heartwarming story. Yes, woods is a "paradigm shift for golf", but federer at this point, is more dominate in his sport.

jerky, what i don't understand is why all of a sudden, i was flamed by several people here. Yes, english is my second language, but some people in this forum turn me out to be a fourth grader, and that was uncalled for. This is a forum after all, not an essay contest.

BTW, that comment that plague wrong, i really did have trouble understanding what he was trying to say, only the later part was sarcasm.

i think what s_aki is saying is that
Tiger Woods has already gained, and is STILL expanding his legacy.
Federer is merely dabbling in it and has too much career left to still even possibly know if he has the potential to leave behind one.

question. If both athletes had career ending injuries today, who will be most remembered?

    answer. tiger woods

its too early to even be discussing about this, wait till Federer breaks some records by a signifigant margin. Its meaningless to discuss this otherwise.

PhoenixDth, i understand the mass influence of tiger woods. But you have to remember this, woods have yet to break the all time record. And Federer is 5 or 6 short of sampras record, depending on how federer will play at this year US Open. Im not talking about a career comparision, i'm merely comparing the past three years of dominance of both athletes. In those years, Federer has stay atop of the ATP ranking, and won seven grand slam, eight if he wins this year US Open. Tiger only has 4 major under his belt in the past three year. and for that reason, i believe federer to be more dominate in tennis than tiger in golf.

3 years does not a player make
tiger has already done more for golf than any other player before breaking records, probably in any sport.

yes PhoenixDth, what tiger has done for golf is comparable to what michael jordan has done for basketball. over the past three years, tiger has dominated golf, but federer stormed through the world of tennis. PhoenixDth, you kept comparing tiger's career to that of roger. Of course, tiger has the edge in accomplishments over any other athlete, except for maybe michael jordan. but like i say in my earlier posts, im simply comparing the past three years of dominance of both roger and tiger.

to which i again state, to what purpose - other than to boost your self confidence in one of your favorite sports stars? Why specifically focus it on a slumping tiger woods, who hasnt been really the same since his fathers death.

If you want to talk about dominance in the past 3 years Takeru Kobayashi is your man.

Roger Federer has yet to complete a career grand slam. He hasn't won the French Open.

Tiger Woods has won each major at least twice.

    What's Federer's career record vs Nadal? 2-6?

Taking nothing away from Roger, but that is hardly dominant and I'm sure he'd be the first to tell you. In fact, I remember someone asking Federer what he felt about his rivalry with Nadal (back when it was 5-1). His quote was something like "Don't I have to win a few for it to be a rivalry?" Roger's a thug no doubt, but Nadal is just 19 and not just a clay court guy. The next few years are going to be nice for men's tennis.

Contrast this with Tiger. With the exception of Jack Nicklaus, the only person anyone compares Tiger to IS Tiger. The "resurgent" Tiger of today (new swing grooved, 4 straight wins, 2 majors in a row with a record tying PGA 4 day total) with the Tiger of 2000 (who, if your remember, went on a big run after a "slump" year where he only won what? four tourneys?). Seriously, sport's journalists ask Tiger what he would do out there if he had to play against himself. The next few years are going to be nice for Tiger.

No one can eat just one!
