timing for ground throw escapes and down attack reversals

I am getting pretty good with Aoi and have no trouble with regular reversals and I am getting the hang of regular throw escapes. I am having trouble with the timing for ground throw escapes and reversals though, sometimes I can get them to work but not other times. Also, I seem to be able to reverse Aoi and Sarah's down attacks more than anyone elses.

This is probably a stupid question but I will tack it on the end... Can you reverse heavy down attacks? I have always assumed you can't but I have never been sure.

General answer to both is 'just before it makes contact with you'. More specifically:

Ground throw escapes have a timing but can be mashed. This was talked about recently in the down throw escapes thread.

Down attack reversals only work for small down attacks. Again, you can initally mash to help you 'wake up' faster and enter the reversal, but it comes down to timing. So long as you can recover and enter the command before the limb hits you, it should reverse successfully. Most characters have throws that 'guarantee' small down attacks. By 'guarantee' I mean it's impossible to struggle out of and roll away safely, but Aoi can recover and reverse the down attack in these situations.

The reason why you're able to reverse Aoi's and Sarah's the most is because you may just be familiar with when they do their down attacks? What I'm saying is that, on paper, it shouldn't matter which character you're against.

It would be cool if she could, but only against characters with a one limb heavy down attack like Akira.
