Tip on ETEG

Recently i've decided to dive into more advanced defense. Firstly, i would say, the waters look deeper than they are. I also fully expect to find pockets that are deeper than i expect. However, mostly, it's a matter of going to dojo with ur frame data and pounding out the nuts and bolts. ETEG at -7 to -11, fuzzy on -5 or less, and crouch fuzzy on -6. TE on -12 or worse.
First of all, if u are new to this be ready for discouragement. Its frustrating to spend x amount of time each day working on TE garaunteed and ETEG only to play for a week when everyone takes garaunteed pk on garaunteed throw, and no one throws ur evade. Sigh. But know that u are doing it makes u stronger.
So on ETEG i usually go for 2 directions. Just whipping out to directions can be a bit daunting, but i have a tip that helps me greatly. When i ETEG i do one directional throw break, and if my guy is evading a middle great, i'm done. I don't put in the 2nd til he is grabbing me to throw me. Honestly, i don't consider this to be a ETEG on reaction to throw. It is much easier to visually, and auditorially confirm evaded mid then visually confirm throw. Still though, once u have input one ETEG it is very easy to add the 2nd direction if u see ur opponent grab u. I think most will find this is at least one area in the game where they can break on reaction to throw. Hope it helps someone, it has done well for me.

Man, I was thinking to myself, "How am I gonna learn this ETEG?" LOL. Sounds hard ugh. Breaking throws hasn't always been my strongest point. I'm discouraged lol. =(

i usually practice eteg and teg in dojo by setting cpu to do multiple throws after they guard my attacks.eteg and teg is tough to nail consistently because of the g button during the
last throw input to prevent throw animation from whiffing. Nailing three throws then guarding is tough. the best way to know if ur inputting the g on time is setting cpu to mix up attacking mid and throws to practice timing of both throw escapes and applying g.I recommend starting off with one throw then train yourself to apply 2 or 3 throws. In vf4 evolution the tutorial says dont get greedy use throw escapes to avoid the more damaging throws /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I think the key for me has been:

    1) Evade as late as possible.
    2) Be SURE to hit their strongest/favorite throw direction first, cleanly.
    3) Input the second direction cleanly and release P, holding G.

If you're trying to do them too fast you may miss the most important, first direction and only get the second. It's more important to take away their favorite throw, even if that means you can only do one.

For Shun I only evade and break P+G only, works fine cause they don't get their easy 50 dmg and 4 drinks which is what most Shuns want.

Just remember that ETE/ETEG is a choice, just like not doing it at all.

nice points social, this helped me in thinking about when to add a second direction.

I find my biggest problem is entering them in too quickly and not getting my 1st TE. I have to force myself to pause for a lil bit after I enter my evade command so that I get TE's and not something else.

I tried it for a while in dojo and it's a great technique!

Social, thank you for sharing that! It's crazy vs Akira types, breaking 6 and 3...

HotD, it's not that daunting really... just take it a step at a time.

For knowing when to go for multiple throw escapes, learn what attacks leave you at -12 when blocked. Also be aware that many crouching opponents will throw you on reaction when you miss with a high attack like a crescent kick.

If you miss a pounce because your opponent tech rolled or your opponent evaded a staight lunging attack like Wolf's shoulder ram, enter /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif - /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif hold/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif to escape a possible side throw.

After you learn and feel comfortable with throw escaping when you're truly screwed at -12 disadvantage, start learning what moves put you at -7 and worse. The only thing I can suggest then is to practice and drill yourself in the dojo. Others have given good advice in this thread.

Cheers to Social Ruin! This is actually an awesome strategy. Why bother with extra TEs if they're not gonna throw you anyway. It takes some training to teach yourself to only throw the extra TEs when you see them start to grab, but if you get the hang of it, it's an awesome way to ETEG...

did you guys know that you can STILL DMPK after ETE???

for example: evade, 6P+G, P+K AND VOILA YOUR FAVORITE MOVE COMES OUT AFTER ETE! YEAH! though im not sure how many TEs one can input before it's too late to hit P+K.

hahaha i know this is pointless but just thought i'd add it in. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Hmm never tried it but I figured as much. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif Looks like people will be ETE-confirming DM PK to avoid delayed attack?

If its possible to DM P+K then its propably also possible to OM after ETE..

You would still get hit, I mean if it was a delayed mid or low. Not sure about highs because some DM P+K's go under highs.

Remember that this stuff(ETE/ETEG) still just loses to circulars and catch throws anyway.

    Yes, it is possible.

Once you have evaded, there's a small window in which a /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif will activate the OM, and this won't get spoiled by any prior /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif attempts. However, the window is so short that you (well, at least I) can only realistically get 1 TE input.

So what happens is you either successfully escape the throw, or you'll perform a successful evade which cancels into the OM. Since the OM is kind of late/delayed in the evade, you get a better chance of exposing your opponent's side or back.

Practice this in dojo with CPU set to guard and then mid or throw. You might want to limit the number of CPU throws to 1 to get the hang of it. When/if you do, see how many TEs you can get in consistently!

ETE transforming into OM-is very interesting technic:
-becouse prevent some of the opponent's anti-ETE options, like Delayed Throw(becouse of the OM you'll be out of opponent's hitbox), and Delayed attacks(the same; not sure-it is possible to stretch-lock on), thought.

OM just as a normal DM can lose to same attack they are supposed to evade, it all depends on timing of the inputs.

In theory OM P is nearly always interruptable by punch, if you can time your attack to the small window before it hits.

Slightly unrelated technique is canceling succesful DM into an OM which would allow OM attacks to be used in a frame situation where OM would normally fail, ie. disadvantage.

On the other hand... even if the evade in ETE is succesful, you can still cancel it into an OM..

ETEOMP against Kage.. hehe. People who like abbreviations, rejoice! \o/
