Many times we've all dodged a linear move, gotten a successful evade, ate the attack, and cursed for half an hour. I'm unsure about the trackping properties of such moves, especially charge-up moves. Does anyone have details on why certain moves will hit on a successful evade?

depending on certain moves, while they are linear, u still need to dodge in the correct side in order to totally evade it....good example will be lau's elbow palm. Elbow can be dodged on both sides..but realistically, u should always dodge to lau's back n make lau whiff his palm follow up..

While we're using lau as an example, lau's [2]+[K],[K]...if u simply dodge, then u will effectively evade the string n lau is all urs baby.

    However,

If u evade AND press say, G ( u know...simply ETEG or E, then hold G....) lau's string will track you.

So sometimes, it is best to just evade n do absolutely nothing!

dodging too early like srider mentioned. Also, a lot has to deal with left and right arm properties. Also if you dodge and then dodge attack, like shun or Jeffery's, it seems that your character is taking a step forward before performing the attack. So the step forward might hit the linear attack. Just my thoughts. Hope it helps.

Aoi´s evade-attack has one of the bitchest timings of all moves out there. Timing and positioning are mostly the key.

or just don't use it, she has much better options than the dodge attack 99% of the time.
