This past weekend, VF veteran LA Akira had a training session with Justin Wong and Floe (professional fighting game players known mostly for their play in 2D games). The video of the session was streamed and archived on twitch. Some of the topics discussed during the offline session, included the importance of [P], fast mid ([6][P]), fuzzy guard, and general frame ranges (fuzzy range, nitaku range and guaranteed damage range). Also briefly touched were character specific common denominators. For example, majority of Jacky's strings on the second hit connect at the high attack level.

For those curious on the progression of Justin Wong in Virtua Fighter or want to see players learning to apply VF fundamentals in versus matches go check out the VF5 with @laakira video!

Good stuff L.A.. You do a good job of explaining and demonstrating stuff without going over board with info. It's a good thing you don't know big wall combos or some of them moments could have got nasty, hahah.

Cool to see Justin improving too. On the last stream when he was playing Floe, he could barely scrape a win. But this week he seemed to have control over the matches and was the one winning. If I remember right. I know it wasn't as one sided as it was last week though.

      Anyways, good training session man!

The info i'm giving them is already on vfdc repeated many times but the next few times we meet up, I will be showing them more game mechanic stuff like side situations and for character specific stuff, probably wolf.

One thing in particular that some people might not be aware of but I plan to talk about is the use of 4p+g throw whiff to beat all of wolf's catch throws, burning hammer and back direction throws when the opponent is specifically forcing those options on you. Naturally this option loses to 6p+g, giant swing, p+g and ANY attack but can still be a very useful option to beat common throw mixups.
