Transition from pad to stick?

I've only played VF with a pad in the past, so I've been somewhat limited, but I plan to buy a Hori stick in the future. Is there any difficulty in making the change from pad to stick, or would the improvement in play be immediate?

You might find you'll do worse with a stick at first, but persevere with it. Soon you will get much better and wonder how you went so long without one!

And that note I have a question. Having just bought a Hori stick I find myself struggling to adjust eailer. Does anybody have any recomended button configurations for it.

    the standard configuraion is:

    ..[/size]P K
    G

    the other three buttons unused.

If you have the hori ex2 that means red is P, blue is K, green is G.

I'm pretty sure that the right thumb would be used for G, right index for P, and right middle finger for K, but is there a proper/recommended method of holding and moving the stick?

My theory behind stick-holding has to do with completing motions with as little effort as possible. If I can avoid extraneous movement of wrist, hand, and arm - well - all the better. That being said, I just switched from gripping with thumb and forefinger with remaining three fingers left of the shaft to putting my pinky on the right of the shaft. This made my 3346P motions for Akira easier.

Do what works best for you.

Some players prefer holding the stick as if they are holding wine glass.

I can see how much using the pinky on the right of the stick helps. Thanks!

I feel the same way as Plague. That said, I wouldn't describe myself as really "gripping" the stick at all. I basically encircle the entire stick with my hand, and just use the sides of my fingers/palms to push into it from opposite the direction I'm trying to use. Sort of uniquely possible due to the ball top on the hori, and small size such that I can rest my entire palm on the base.

I also find I use my ring finger to press K as much or more as I use my middle finger. P+K+G in particular seems easier to do that way without having to stretch your fingers as far to reach all the buttons.

It helps if you start play other games using AC.
MAME and Xbox Live Arcade is an easiest way.

Does anyone bychance play just holding the shaft with their index and thumb?

I have to use my first 3 fingers, cause they are way too long and it feels uncomfortable any other way.

Yeah i've been using my to play Street Fighter Alpha 3 using MAME, wish I still had my copy of Streetfighter 3 for xbox /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif
