Well, there are basic sweeps that any judo/jits guy should have. Do they have any crazy half guard stuff?

Since the demo only has a Muay Thai and Kickboxer style, its hard to tell what a guy with full blown Judo style or BJJ style will have in the game. As good as the Demo is, I would suspect that if
you reguarly see it in a UFC match, its going to be available in the game. The game is a pretty good approximation. I'm impressed /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

I hear there's going to be 80 fighters? and creater a fighter mode whoaa! I hope that have replay saves in vs mode, some of the sequences we were doing yesterday I really wanted to be able to play them back they were awesome.

The online ranking is probably going to be wild. They've got to keep it by weight class /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Lag will probably affect the ground game more than anything else /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shocked.gif It seems like the timing for transition setups and the transitions themselves are pretty sensitive (at least in the demo).

And those one hit/kick knockouts, might make the online matches go pretty fast /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

I do think the Fight Night card girls are better though /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

    New UFC Walkthrough Video

New UFC video on The Feed. If you're having trouble with the demo, this video contains a few tips. Also shows a few of the other fighters. Tito is IN! There was some concern for a bit that he wouldn't end up in the final version.

Anyway, if you're interested in the game check it out, got some cool stuff.

I got the demo, it's aight. I'm kinda with B-feck on the "it's too complex for me" thing lol, everytime i'm in a new position I have to hit pause and look at what moves I can do and it seems endless. Also I keep getting KTFO (knocked the fuck out) lol.

It's cool they came out with the demo this early so people can get some good practice in before the game drops. I bet career mode will be pretty awesome, creating your own fighter n all and moving up the ranks.

One thing though is, I wonder how hard it will be playing against someone with a turbo controller, cause you know there's gonna be people out there using em. Probably never win a struggle and get submited every time.

All in all to me it's coo, I don't think i'll be getting it but it is agood game. I want that Fight Night 4 /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Played the PS3 demo. Its cool. Fighting the CPU is boring but I can see some fun in playing somebody.

Man, I was actually kind of nervous to see what the reaction the game would have on this board (if it got any attention at all).

Glad to see some of you are enjoying it; I'd be lying if I said that we didn't take a great deal of inspiration from VF when creating some of the decision-making situations in the game!

I really enjoyed it, I fount some of the grappling and ground work a little confusing, but I imagine it will be easy to pick up.

Looking forward to seeing the create a fighter mode, always a big selling point for me.

I don't think someone using a turbo controller will be game breaking. When in a "struggle", you're not guaranteed to get submitted just because your opponent mashes buttons faster, it only increases the change of success. If you run out of stamina during a submission, well thats bad. Besides, mashing buttons is only good for the "brute force" escape style. Rotating the stick is where its at, as it can turn a bad situation good.

Sixtwo, do you work for THQ/Yukes? I'd have about a million questions to ask if you were involved in the creation of UFC 2009!

I remember some of the animations of the first UFC game were extremely similar to some found in VF4. For example, all the striking KO-death animations were identical. Vanessa had some of Marco Ruas's animations too. Granted they're both fighting games with the motive to replicate actual arts, but im just curious as to how that came about.

That game was before my time; I came to THQ specifically to work on UFC 2009 Undisputed.

The UFC game you linked, though, was developed by Anchor, which I believe has something of an incestuous relationship with both Sega and Namco. Anchor is an offshoot of Dream Factory, responsible for the Tobal series, which shares quite a few similarities with both the Tekken and VF.

    Hey sixtwo,

Were there any elements to the core fighting system that you guys weren't able to get to this year? Is it too much to ask examples? Thanks.

Also: Another VF element in play.

Excellent game /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif the THQ crew did a good job. Which market do you guys think you're gonna get: Fight Night or a VF type market?

I know for me UFC 2009 gives me the sports like environment (right down to the card girls ,videographers, referees, ring side judges, announcers) and physics that I don't get from VF and VF gives me the diversity/range of styles and amazing locales that you won't get in a MMA fighting game. So they're the perfect balance for each other. Whereas I don't see the majority of hardcore Tekken/SFIV type fans diggin this game, I imagine that a large section of VF fighters and Fight Night Round 3 fans might find this game very satisfying. The kewl thing about UFC 2009 is its not a duplication of something you already have. Its very complementary to the VF series or the Fight Night series.

I don't know how it compares to the Smackdown/Raw stuff, I've never played those. But I'm big fan of Fight Night and VF and this fighter Complements both of those. I'm definitely going to add it to my-must-have-the-latest-version-always games /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Who do you think is going to be the major competitors of UFC 2009? Or is this a brand new market on Nextgen Consoles?

Excellent post. And excellent points. It does remind me a LOT of Fight Night, and it does have a flavor all its own. I'm interested to get better at the ground game, but must admit, i enjoyed more just striking. Ironically funner to strike with Rua cause chuck doesn't try and take me down all fight long, lol.

I look forward more to Fight NIght, but this game is gonna be purchased and played quite a bit. And has every chance to ultimately be better than fight night.

But great point master pro, it complements VF5 very nicely.

Short answer is yes, there were things we left out. There is one major core fight element that we were not able to get in due to technological limitations. I'm reluctant to mention it now (some of our more hardcore fans have already picked up on it), but I'll say that if we're lucky enough to do another UFC game, we've already resolved the issue and it's ready to go.

We also had a working lean and sway system in, but it just didn't feel UFC enough for us to include, so we cut it. However, it seems in this post-Fight Night world, sports fighting fans have come to expect this element in their striking, so again, if we're lucky enough to do another UFC game, I'd say we'd look as revisiting those as well to find an appropriate implementation of them.

As for the guard cancels, well, I'm a Jeffry player. Nuff' said. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

The powers that be assume that we will not get much fighting game crossover (and the genre up until recently was considered a dead one anyway), and to that end we're marketing ourselves as a sports game. However, seeing as I designed the combat system and I'm a lifelong fighting game player, many traditional fighting game elements (right down to the mapping of our striking buttons to a Tekken style layout) were taken as inspiration to make the game, so I think fighting game fans will definitely find something to appreciate.

Fight Night 4, Fight Night 4, and Fight Night 4. One area where I think we differ is that Fight Night, particularly Round 3, appealed to hardcore gamers first primarily because of how "next gen" it was. I don't think a lot of non-gaming boxing fans went out and got 360s to play it. I think in our case we will attract many UFC fans to gaming, and many gamers to UFC.

Personally, I am a huge Fight Night fan, and while I see the two games as somewhat similar (particularly with regard to our use of physics), I really feel that they have their own individual styles of play and can succeed in the world without destroying each other; I truly hope we can keep the genre going together.
