Hey, so.... as you all remember the 2009 UFC title was a great success. The 2010 game seems to have a lot of improvements. Here's a short interview from gametrailers:

UFC Undisputed 2010 Upgrades interview

Has anyone heard anything about a demo? Maybe sixtwo could tell us something about the game if he still works for THQ (hopefully he does) [IMG]
Anyway, the game is coming out on 25th of May 2010.
They say there's going to be a lot more submissions, ground positions as well as striking techniques. There will be a 100 real fighters and... well, just watch the video. [IMG]

I would work for free on this game if they could follow some of my advice

I know Shadowdean, I know. I'd like to see some of my favourite situations and techniques too. What's the most important thing for you, that you'd like to see in this game that wasn't in 2009 one?

Well, in terms of fitness/endurance, I would like to see both cardiovascular endurance and muscle endurance represented somehow. Striking: for pre-made characters I would like to see their options more closely mimic the techniques they have used in real life. Machida's foot sweep take downs, his parries, the double left hooks from Rashad, Sean's double leg, Joe Daddy's under/over and grip strength, etc. I would like a bit more variety in strikes. Southpaw is a crucial addition.
On the ground I want to see weight distribution and momentum shown better. You rarely just "do" a sweep, but rather it is in reaction to a movement your opponent does or you initiate. Even a simple scissor sweep is done when you get the opponent either going forwards or backwards. I would like to see submission chains...someone escapes a triangle I should generally be able to transfer to an armbar (from guard), or from a basic armbar to a same-side armbar. I would like to see more escape options. Some put you in better situations, others just "get you out." That was hinted at with the power vs technique escapes, but it leaves a lot to be desired. I would like to see more styles represented. Sombo, catch, lutre livre, etc.
Maybe I'll make a youtube video...

Damn, i must be getting really into it, since I actually understood it all [IMG] That's quite a lot and I hope at least half of it will be in the games. Out of all those things I'd like to see more transtitions and character/fighter specific moves/techniques.
If someone's trying to escape a triangle chocke from guard, I'd like to go for an armbar or omoplata, depending on the side the opponent is going for. I'd also like to see more leg locks. Something more than just a simple knee bar, etc.
Well, I'm really hoping for a demo. I'd like to see those "triple the amount of submissions".

I thought 2009 was a sloppy game and 2010 looks like the same exact game with a few tweaks.

I'm hoping EA MMA will be intuitive and fluid. 2009 had extremely choppy and very unrealistic animations.

I think animation will always be a wee bit choppy due to the nature of the game.

One major submission chain would be guillotine choke --> neck crank or omaplata.

1) They need to add some form of karate (alla lyoto machida)
san shou, shotokan, something,

2) Expand Judo moves esp(Take downs, reversals, etc)

3) separate statistics kept by player name, so that player 1 and player 2 can be tracked separatedly, and if player 1 has multiple fighters, add the capability to track the statistics by fighter for player 1 and player 2.

4) Add replay capability to training mode.

5) Add replay capability in vs mode and in single player mode against the computer. Very important for learning the total depthness of the game.

6) Bigger variety of sound tracks possibly adding your own.

* Quarter and half-circle analog stick transitions used on the ground last year will be used in the clinch

* Sway system in the clinch used to deliver more powerful strikes or avoid them

* Positions on the ground will have sub-positions

* A knockout blow can be delivered from any position in the game

* When in mount the player won’t have to manually block a transition attempt from opponent

* T-shirts, hats and other gear to unlock

* The “Buffer 180" is in the game

* New refs including Yves Lavigne

* Some kind of trash talking feature in career mode that “will gain you more popularity and will also negatively affect relationships”

* No more static animations, fighters always moving, clinch reanimated, fight animations quadrupled

* Karate, Greco-Roman Wrestling and Sambo fighting styles added

* Created fighters not limited to two fighting styles, will have individual move sets

* 100+ fighters on the roster, none made from create-a-fighter mode like 50% of last year’s roster

* “Game Is Watching You” system, which will “track every action and use this information to dictate in-game commentary, opponent intelligence and overall career progression”

* Title Mode: fight through a weight class to earn and defend a belt

* Title Defense Mode: complete milestone challenges on your road to stardom

* Tournament Mode: 16-player individual and team

* Fight camps in career mode where you can go to learn new moves

* Analog stick rolling method to escape submissions is back, button mashing/brute force is gone

* Ability to fight orthodox, southpaw, or switch and assign a dominate power hand

* Drag-and-drop system for placing sponsorships and tattoos, no more extensive menu navigation

* No more maxed out created fighters online

* Online fight camps and leagues with ability to train and learn new moves with friends </div></div>

Oh fucking hell....if I can k.o someone while being mounted, that is retarded.

For throws, wonder how Sambo and Greco will be differentiated.

It would be cool for catch-as-catch can to be added.

I am anticipating this...

I just hope you can select any move you want as you progress through the game with your created character. I hated the fact that in UFC09 you were only allowed to select moves by certain fighting styles. Which was awful!

Why? it makes sense that you train only certain styles.. Both outofgame and ingame sense. If picking anymove for character was allowed at any time, you would soon see only 'cookiecutter' builds online.. Restriction makes a lot of sense.

Of course as you develop your character certain moves become available.

Being forced to only pick two fighting styles from to pre-created move lists prevents diversity and does not allow a variety of character creation.

Naw.. dude, keeping moves within the context of fighting styles add diversity and realism to the game. Certain moves are only available to certain styles and that boundry is what distinguishes one style from another.

And realistically a fighter only has time to learn and perfect a few styles at a competitive level.

If any fighter could do any move then mixed martial arts would still be featuring sumo, tai chi quan, various renditions of kung fu, etc. Because when the tai chi fighter realized they didn't have a good ground game, all they would have to do is add a few moves to their tai chi style, now we have a tai chi fighter with brazillian jujitsu moves. We all know in the general case that's not realistic and that's not how it went down when those other styles were filtered from MMA. Sumo could have just added the Muay Thai Knee, and the rear naked choke and they would still be in MMA now.

Of course there is a temptation to mix and match styles and pull out the really kewl moves out of all the styles and make up your own ala carte MMA. But in reality a move doesn't exist in a vacuum. That move is made possible by the context of other moves that it occurs in. (That's what a style is all about) A style gives you a context and reason for why any given move is made at a given time.

If you take the move out of context, out of the style and just throw it into some other style, you take the rational and produce the irrational and possible risky or even life threatening.

Most of the moves of a style have been integrated after many many years, thousands of fights. A move sequence is not to be taken lightly.

No you shouldn't be able to do whatever move you want to unless you have trained in the style that move comes from and you can perform in that style at a competitive level. And in reality if you've mastered BJJ, kickboxing, Muay Thai, Greco, and Karate, then you're an old ass man by that time, and the game should reflect that you're an old ass man, and your stamina should be a lot less than someone half your age [IMG]

Right! you can't master more than a few MMA styles at the competitive level and still be under 25 years old. If UFC 2010 allows you to train in and master 10 fighting styles, then your
age, and stamina settings better show it. You might have more skills in that case than your opponent, but you better get them off in the first round [IMG]

So you would be in training camp for 20 years and in a match your stamina, and power statistics should be lower because you're a lot older than most of your competitors [IMG]

Rose, if any body can throw any move at anytime then fighting styles are meaningless and that would nullify the primary question that motivated MMA in the first place. Namely How is fighter A's style X going to hold up against fighter B's style Y

Think about it that's one of the stong points of Virtua Fighter. Each fighting style is unique. And in general you can not use any move from any style that you want. That's what makes Goh vs Lau, or Lei Fei vs Wolf etc so interesting to play and watch.

THQ should add more fighting styles to choose from but 2 at most 3 should be all that a single fighter should be allowed to master. And if you learn 3 your age and stamina statistics should be adjusted accordingly [IMG]

How do you account for Lyoto Machida - Shotokan karate, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Sumo....

Or GSP: Kyoshin-ken karate, muay thai, boxing, wrestling, bjj....

Its not the question whether or not its realistic to have characters like that. From game designers sense such people should not be made though or everyone would ONLY play them.
Also, those people propably use very limited set of techniques in actual combat.
I thought there were 3 grappling and 3 striking styles in total which allow for a total of 9 different skillset combinations.

ps. complete customization can never be balanced, or if it is, it will be extremely boring one with no differences. MasterPo also has a point in that pitting different styles against each other is something that gives flair to fighting games.

pps. I wish the designers of this game would make for a bit better matchmaking. Now its only 'quickmatch' style with no real way to choose opponent or see the latency or anything. I dont understand how little effort game designers generally put into online matchmaking despite it being one of the most important aspects in game longevity, not counting the game mechanics themselves..

several important points here:

First: Lyoto has been studying this stuff almost
his entire life.(started karate age 3)

Second: If you watch his MMA matches he throws in an extremely
small set of karate influences on an otherwise
standard MMA profile.

Third: He aint under 25, he's 31 or 32 years old. And it
shows when he's in the octagon now.

Lyoto actually proves my point. It would take a life time to master 3 or 4 different martial art styles well enough to compete against world class champions.

It would really diminish UFC 2010 if they allowed any fighter to be able to use any move from any style at will. 2 at most 3 styles per fighter is totally acceptable, and realistic, and will keep the gameplay interesting. If you're a Muay Thai and Judo stylest don't expect to throw Chuck Lidell's
super punch [IMG] Its not in your arsenal and it really shouldn't be. If you're a wrestler and boxer, don't expect to pull of Muay Thai knees or clinches. Choosing a particular fighting style has consequences. Choose wisely.
