UMSD Tournament 2004, 7th Feb, Manchester

Ok, I decided to put all tournament info on a proper tourney thread. Hope you UK guys haven't had any problems tracking this down. To be 100% sure on whats going down:

One character only.

Knock out fights to progress to further rounds.

First to 3 wins with a win being best 3 of 5 rounds, 200 life bars, 45 seconds on the clock, random stage select, coin toss for 1p/2p side.

I'm pretty sure you'll all know who you are playing in the first round by now but heres a list of players and the characters they use;

LM_Akira: Akira, Aoi, Goh, Lei (plus lots more...)
slimadey: Kage, Sarah, Lau
Darius: Lion (Aoi)
Elite: Goh, Wolf, Akira, Shun
Elitev2: Jacky, Jeff

Delune may also be coming too but just for a few casual matches in the morning.

Ok just to quickly go over things (I'll post all the results and that tomoorw when I have the time).

Huge thanks to everyone who came and made it all worth while. I know there were problems of peeps getting matches in after the tourney ones and I'll sort that out for next time. In fact I only played 4 peeps all day and 2 of them were from our regular group. So definately in future we'll have it organised better.... On three...* Cough, cough!!!* /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

About the players;

DeLune: Awesome man. I heard you played Lei but I missed that. Your Kage was very enjoyable to watch and a nightmare to play against. I WILL use Akira against you when I play you again though! (hopefully there will be another time at least if you only live in Sheffield).

Well I didn't get to play any of you guys but I'm glad you came.

Faded: Your Kage wasn't as bad as you made out man. Some entertaining matches with Elite. Oh and your Goh and Jeff were cool too.

Stroppa: Very aggressive Lei I liked that. Think you played a little Jacky and Wolf too? Nice matches from what I saw.

MrDark: Didn't see much of your Vanessa I'm afraid, hopefully you'll get more matches in future.

LiMeng: Awesome Shun, never seen a serious Shun player to be honest. I think you were the only player to give DeLune a serious run for his money. Congrats on the second place!!!

LEEDS/BRADFORD CREW

pinking: Nice play man. Didn't get to play you but I don't think you lost too many as Akira. Didn't know you played Vanessa too. Look forward to some mirror matches in future. 4th place overall.

mas: Hmmm didnt play you either but your Lion looked nice.

Elite: Got a bit worried when I saw your Akira lose to the Brad player but overall I think your Goh was pretty solid as usual. No matches vs you either damn.

Elitev2: Solid Jeff and Jacky. You win ratios on both are a lot healthy now. Good close fights in the semis with you and LiMeng and a deserved 3rd place.

Cracker: Didn't play you but judging by your file you lost quite a bit.

Robin: Looked good decent win ratio too.

Will: Didn't even see many of your matches but you pushed Elitev2 close in the early rounds.

Rayne: Ouch nice Lion. I think he is officially now my bogey char. I have really trouble playing him. You played consistently well all day.

WackyJacky: mmmm didn't have any of our titanic Akira-Jacky fights as usual. Hopefully will do next time.

Darius: Pokey as usual. I really am gonna try to learn how to fight you one day.

SlimAdey: Only a few matches but decent ones at least. I'm definately sticking with Akira and one secondary char (who I'll switch every now and again). Looked foward to more Akira-Akira / Akira- Kage stuff.

Nakura: Yep 1 game sorry. I only did slightly better. Cheers for not being too fussed about the tourney though.

Myself: Hmmm I could make excuses about not being able to warm up, about playing DeLune first etc... but I won't. A few nice flashed with Aoi and Akira but my fleeting Goh appearance was crap.

Random dickhead that walked in and used my Akira and Lei file: No idea who you were and I know for certain you won't be reading this. Shit Lei and an embarrassing Akira...who were you??? If I see you again you're in trouble /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

shit, i wish i could have come, but its good to see the whole of the uk playing vf (except wales /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif) I think the vf community in this country could grow into somthing huge.

man u is the way to go, delune gets even more respect from me! (was delune the guy at absolution with fast-moving kage?)

maybe we should do a uk royal rumble? or team battle, there are more than enough players to start considering it.

If we can get a good enough venue this woule be dam good, dosn't neccesarily have to be in London, more concerned with quality of venue.

I think it'd have to be well arranged. The organisation would have to be pretty good to organise something like that. Formats would have to be discussed. A venue, I wouldn't mind travelling to London, but others might.

Never really stayed in the Troc for long enough, but I did find some matches thanks. Nobody I recognised from Gamefocus, but some tough opponents nevertheless. I won a few matches with Aoi, which was surprising. Btw, Outrun 2 is such a solid game...I think I spent more time on it than playing the Versus city cabs.

A UK-wide gathering would be super cool. I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem hiring a big hall for the event. Plenty of places in Edinburgh /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif

No, seriousley Delude was a good fighter, but I think I fancy my chances with him if I had my VF4 HORI stick! I played will's mate (forgot his name) who uses wolf... He had a taste of my venom with Akira when I SPoDed him followed by a Knee (next to the wall), but I could not get it on using the other sticks! Overall I enjoyed the meetup! Good Stuff CHRIS!

To those interested we DO have replays coming soon, including some of the amazing Final fights of DeLune vs LiMeng ( DeLune was actually 2 - 0 down and came back to win 3 - 2) as well as some of the warm up matches plus other tourney rounds.

Faded's on the case for replays soon. I hope to god I copied my fight vs SlimAdey as Aoi - Kage as I got a backturned reversal in that shocked everyone /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif after SlimAdey had flipped over me.

I'm thinking of haolding the next meet in March ... probably mid March but I dunno about details yet I'll keep everyone up to speed.

Yeah I was speaking to him after the tourney and he told me he comes to play you and Dai every two weeks or so. Is he good with everyone then? His kage owned pretty much everyone even though he said his main char was Lion. Apparantly he used Jeff, Pai, Akira and Lei in the morning session too but I missed it. I don't suppose theres any chance you could make our next meet in March sometime is there? It'll be on a saturday all day I guess. It'd be ace if we could get you AND DeLune here together!

he normaly plays with pai/lion, an if u ask me, he blayyytantly has the best pai an lion in UK!

on a uk vf meet, yea blaytant, we should hire a hall for like as cheep as £50 or so! i'll gladly bring my jap evo/ps2/evo stick and TV...
