    hey everyone,

i have never played with an arcade stick before but i am considering to buy one because of the better response for fighting games.
BUT seeing that i own a xbox 360 and soon also a ps3 /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif i was wondering are there any arcade sticks out there that work on xbox 360 as well as ps3?
or stick that work on more than one console? for example ps3 and ps2?

    thanks

    ake

This is actually a topic that has come to me alot as an arcade stick builder.

My friends are buying next gen consoles and want an arcade stick to work on both of them. They figure it is easy cause 360 and PS3 go through USB.

Unfortunately..... that's far from the truth.

No commercial stick out there yet can support 360, PS3, and to a minor extent PC.

If you want one like that real bad you will have to get a custom stick builder, or do a MAJOR modification on a PS3 stick.

Alot of the problems come from both consoles and how their accessories are done.

Microsoft accessories have a MS license on them. ALL of them, Madcatz 3rd party stuff included need that license in order for te 360 to recognize the circuit. Because of this, PS3 sticks (which are avialable in large number and far better quality than the x360 stick) do not work on the xbox360 despite using a USB.

Now it's still bad because in general, "pad hacking" a sixaxsis is very difficult and also very unrewarding. As Sony makes all their controllers Analog standard (everything I mean, buttons, dpad, you name it). This means even if you successfully hack the pad's contacts, there is still a very large chance for lag on your input. This lag can be as bad if not worse than most convertors which renders the point of the arcade stick pointless.

Your best bet is to buy a PS3 stick and modifiy the buttons to a rotary swtich/quad bilateral switch pack then have the rotary switch the inputs between the PS3 circuit already with the stick and a hacked 3rd party Xbox360 PCB placed within the circuit.

Does anyone have a PS2/PS3 converter; and if so, is there something you have to do to get it to work. I've connected mine to a PS2 dual shock, and my MAS, and I'm getting no connection to my PS3. When I put the Sixaxis in, it works fine. Am I missing something? Or is my convertor garbage!?

Anyone? This is driving me mad! Someone on here had to have bought a converter to play VF5 with their existing PS2 sticks; it only seems logical. Can somebody at least point me in the right direction here?

I had a converter but the stick I was using had an analog button on it. The stick worked on the PS3 you just had to turn on the PS3 with the power buttong on the console, not through using the sixaxis. As far as lag goes I could not tell you because the joystick was a POS.

Always coming to my aid EVM, thanks dude! So, basically put connect everthing before turning the main power switch (in the back of the PS3 on). Not sure if that's what you meant. I tried something similar, but in the same USB port I paired the Sixaxis in. I'll try to set it up in another USB port, but I still doubt I'll get a signal for some reason.

evm meant to turn on your ps3 through the ps3 and not through the sixaxis. leave your sixaxis off.

currently the only ps2 to usb converter that works without an analog button is an adapter made by elecom called the jc-ps201. you can get it here. http://www.himeyashop.com/product_info.php/products_id/6492

otherwise, your stick will need a button on it to switch from digital to analog to use whatever converter you are using right now. you will need to rewire your stick with a psx dualshock and make sure you have it wired to a button to turn on the analog.

something like this. (the analog button is the big white one with black wire running down to the center of the pcb)

but before you do all that, make sure your adapter even works by using a psx/one/2 dualshock to test it with. you will be able to get button commands working but until you press analog, your dpad won't move anything.

i've read that there is a slight lag with converters though but i don't notice it and can do moves like akira's knee on command and not notice anything.

pelican and nyko are supposedly coming out with converters that are guaranteed lagless and have a ps button to get you back to the xmb without using a sixaxis but that won't be for a couple of months

001, much thanks to you for that. Do you know off hand (before I go ordering it) if the elecom jc-ps201 will work for a MAS. And since it is a PS2 to usb converter, it WILL work on PS3? Thanks in advance, I'm going to check that link...

the link for the elecom jc-ps201 doesn't say much, other than the title of the product, price, and available colors. Also, my MAS arcade stick is wired for the PS2, and there IS a yellow digital/analog button in the upper right-hand corner of the box. I've never used it for anything though; not sure if it factors into the dilemna. I did press it while trying to use the stick for VF5 and got nothing (not unlike every other button I press on it).

If your stick has an analog button on it you should be good to go. I had an old thing called a Kiwi joy usb adapter. I used it for my ps2 controller on a PC. I used the usb adpater on an old ps2 joystick and hooked it up to my PS3 and it worked fine. Just hook everything up, make sure the analog button is on, then hit the power button on the PS3 console. Everything should work fine. I am not sure if the PCB inside your MAS is a dualshock 1 or 2 and I don't know if that has anything to do with it. The old PS2 stick I had was real PS2 arcade stick. Hope everything works out....

I wish I never threw that USB adapter out, I could have just given it to you. I will look some more.....

i remember one guy on http://www.tekkenzaibatsu.com forums reported his mas to work the japanese version of tekken 5 dr using a jc-ps101 when it was discovered the ps101's worked with the game. the jc-ps101 only works with t5dr though and not vf5 for some weird reason. the jc-ps201 is reported to work with both games though so i don't see why it wouldn't work with your mas since most people are using hori tekken sticks and hraps with them that don't use official psx dualshock pcbs.

i have no experience with them so it would be on you if you wanted to try it that bad. let us know how it goes if you decide to get it though.

LOL, its your lucky day. I thought one of those trash bags I took out today was kinda on the heavy side. I went out and checked, sure enough there was my old sticks and USB adapter. Let me know if you want them. You could use the PCB inside the old sticks if the PCB inside your MAS will not work.

    Hey guys,

my MAS is a "true" PS2 accessory (not PS1). Here is a statement directly from the MAS site regarding the PS2 version of their "Super Pro Stick" (which is exactly what I own):

"Special Note for the Playstation 2 version : The Super Pro.Stick will set the Joystick to the default Digital mode on Power Up and report back to the system as a Dual Shock controller. The Digital, Left Analog or Right Analog Mode can be selected by simply pressing the Digital/Analog button & the L1 button (Left Analog) or the R1 (Right Analog). Because the actual Joystick is an 8-way digital device, all Analog functions shall be simulated "only": True Analog movements of the character is not possible, i.e. the character shall only move in one speed (fast) and will not able to slowly walk, or run as with the true Analog stick"
