Of course but just about every other fighter takes those basic outlines and capcom reuses it for other characters.

    Karin x Sakura
    Paul x Kazuya
    Akira x Jacky
    Lili x Asuka

I could name more but I'm about to get some sleep.

The tap-throw is both good and bad play at the same time, and may get you punched in real life. (truer in the arcade days)

Now that I think about it, there's almost always a military related character...

Vanessa, Guile, Jax and Sonya, Bryan from Tekken... etc...

Gotta have a military/soldier character in there somewhere, they fight for a living so why not?...

Aren't "unwritten" rules generally not written down?

Any problem you could possibly have can be solved by winning a martial arts tournament.

If you win a tournament, you have to defend it next time it comes. If it's cancelled, it's unpopular, and so would you.

The plot always sucks. (see the story behind solving all your problems by winning a tourney)

Here would be a better set up:

these 17 fighters train to fight and fight to make money, cuz a mans gotta eat. (so do women, and so do green electrically charged mutant creatures with blue hair or red hair--blanka)

Seriously. Jacky trains for 9 hours a day, spends an hour in the ice bath, and another hour or 5 studying film of his competitors, he therefor wants to win. The end.

It works for UFC, would work for VF6.

Couple responses, Fighting games are based on real life, but Can't be real life and needs to be balanced, and it needs to sell, and therefore you have some of these things. For example.

    1. Big people are often strong but slow. I needs to be this way because if Big was Strong and Fast, then the game would be unbalanced and you just pick the biggest guy and you win. Another, Female characters are usually weaker but quicker. Again, this is to counter the big and slow. We all know men are bigger, stronger, faster, AND quicker than Females, and at the highest levels, whether it is olympic sprinting, or power lifting, or in the octagon, a Female simply cannot beat a male. So are we only gonna have a game with just MEN or are we gonna have a game with men and women.

    2. Is this like Evil Ryu??? if so, I don't really see it that much. Evil Ryu was a Capcom of America add on MUCH MUCH later in the annuls of Street Fighter 2. The concept was adopted by Tekken with Jin and Devil Jin but then again, Jin was a character introduced in Tekken 3 and wasn't always the main character.

    3. Why not copy THE prototypical fighting game of all time. Mortal Kombat did a pretty good job of having different ways of throwing projectiles though (ie.. b f, d b, f f, b b, b d f, b f f, and so on. The main Character (Liu Kang) didn't have any circular moves.

    4. That is because a few people like to A. sweat the japanese when it comes to fighting games, B. travel to far and wide locations to play them, and since the Japanese, care more about fighting games than US, what better than to learn abit of japanese. Same with Anime. Once people realize that Anime are much more broad, with much better stories, and much better series than our American Counterparts, you got people doing and acting the same in that field as well. For example, I only watch my anime in japanese with subtitles. Other, travel, to watch new stuff, and import stuff from there.

    5. Well, from my limited knowlege of Japanese culture, Wasn't it a prerequisite for Ninjas to be less bulky and direct as their Samurai bretherins??? Take Final Fantasy V and tactics for example. The Ninja class has less defence and energy as the samurai class, but is quicker and was able to strike 2 times in one life. And Since Fighting games are Nothing more than stereotypes, we get this. For example, back in the 80s and early 90s, if a fighting game ever had a Russian Female, I'm sure it would play on the Steroid stereotypes of the Russian olympic athlete and have a woman that was big and Strong. The Brash American (Jacky), the fundamentally sound Japanese or Chinese Fighter (Akira), The Bald Monk who wear buddhist monk clothing and fight with many styles (Lei Fei), The Blond American Girl (Sarah, Sonya). I'm still waiting for the African American Female in a game, where they DON'T cop out by adding some racially different attributes to her. So no blue or green eyes, No White Flowing hair ala Storm or Vanessa. So speaking of stereotypes, of course the Jeet Kune Do practictioner would make a lot of noise. it is base on Bruce Lee, and Bruce Lee in his movies, made a lot of noise.

    6. Go on the Madden board and you'll find someone who thinks they know everything about Football. I guess, the response to that person would be, The people who are the closest in know everything about that particular genre, aren't spending their time on message boards for games in that particular field. For example, People now consider Bill Belichick the current Genius in Football (Spygate not included), I don't see Bill hanging around discussing Madden on a message board. The Martial Arts Master who spends countless ours perfecting his craft, isn't hanging around VFDC.com talking about Jackie's Jeet Kune Do isn't correct. We watch UFC, true fighting often ends up up close, on the ground or not, with periods of little going on other than to try to position yourself in a way to cause someone to tap out or receive that lethal blow. Plus, True Fighting without gloves, referees, or protective gear can be over in as quickly as one solid punch or kick. That would equivalent to an intant death move, but Do we want that in a fighting game??? Giant Swing my A__ one solid punch from Jeffrey should take 360% out of Pai's 200% health. She should be Partially Dead even the next round.

    7. I don't get 7. Don't all the people talk shit in some ways in a fighting game??? How does Zangief, King, or Wolf "open their mouths" any more than another character??.

As for the Ryu Type of character. Well, again, Street Fighter, the prototypical fighting game and the one in which all others draw inspiration from, had Ryu as it's main character. So, as in the NFL being dubbed the Copy cat league, why wouldn't people try to cash in on it either. And Yes Akira is direct copy cat of Ryu despite not being with similar move set like World of Heroes where that main character had a dragon punch, fireball, and hurricane kick and just painted it over.

P.S. Who says Dragon Uppercut??? I've never heard that. I've only heard it as Dragon Punch (DP) or Shoryuken. as in, when your describing a move with that input, do a dragon punch or shoryuken motion.

If you lose it is never, ever your fault.

Also, it is completely OK to proclaim that you did something you didn't do.

Example: You get hit. The appropriate response: "I blocked that."

I like that. Also, any tactic that consistently works on you is "cheese," or proof the game is unbalanced.
