" if only they didn't make this game so hard"

    /me start cursing in silence

I suppose dodonpachi daiohjo will *too hard* comment from them.

After all, it's much harder in death label
So what is the point of making games so *hard*?

Even though a worldwide net ranking site has been established, ultimately there are not enough rewards to keep you playing over and over.

Ikaruga gives too much service to the hardcore audience and far too little to everybody else

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Oh wait..I forgot
    it's an arcade game
so it's too short to begin with
coupled with the game being *too hard*, not made by Square, Snake not being the main character, no girls in skimpy bikini (what a DEEP game), no extras (costumes, new weapons..secret characters [same moves..different look] to unlock..only a couple of hrs to finish the game.

    Why buy it?
Do I really want to be challenged?

I know that the site didn't say it's a bad game..on the contary..it says it is good.

It's just the 'too hard' comment n reading their acknowledgment on some players who might not have the patience to learn it...again leads me to believe that old school style gaming is not gonna be here for long.

Treasure has metaphorically slapped the entire industry in the face by proving that that great games and game ideas are not dependent on high technology, giant budgets, or giant staffs. That slap would resonate a lot more soundly if only they hadn't made the game so freaking hard.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So much for giving acknowledgment to Treasure.

I suppose in a way..at least Gamespy reviewed it with no bias viewpoints...and acknowledged that the game could be indeed too hard for many casual gamers. At the very least, they didn't say it was a bad game, which I find some comfort in there.

So I wonder...if the AI for vf4 evo on the ps2 would be dumb down to accomodate casual gamers, seeing as the AI is a freaking monster with all the perfect counters n fuzzy guarding.

Maybe I'm just one of those crazy ppl that like my games to be ultra hard...so much for YARIKOMI!

I'm doing a review of Dodonpachi Daioujou for TNL. It's very good but lacks a the spirit and enjoyability of its predecessor. And even though I LOVE hard games, I really do think Daioujou gets too hard, too quickly, and might turn a lot of casual players off. Even I find myself despairing over points sometimes, and I LOVE shooters.

Ikaruga's a lot better in this regard. The difficulty ramp is better done to make it more intuitive for the casual player. Daioujou is a full-on assault from the start, and there's not not as much room to both play skillfully and have fun as other stuff Cave has put out.

I think Gamespy has a very good point, take VF4 Evo as example, if the game come with 3 mode: Arcade, Vs, Free training. No item whatever, is that still great game? Yes it is. But is it as good as the one we got? Hell no. Just because they want to focus on good gameplay doesn't mean they can't add other feature to make game even better. well, guess there is only one AM2 in the world.
