The game's available everywhere in the U.S. all local Gamestop's in NYC had it when I went around buying up used PS2/XBOX1 games a couple weeks ago. And free shipping for both links above in the U.S. at least.

I haven't played much of it yet but I don't want to spend the $200 like getting a new copy of Chrono Trigger or Marvel vs Capcom 2 requires if the game becomes rare.

KoD - props for starting a wiki for Valkyria Chronicles. There is quite a bit of information already on that page.

Just finished the game last night, and it definitely was very enjoyable, from beginning to end (something I have not really found in a majority of games). Lots of extras after clearing the game, and I noticed from looking at the personnel tab, I am missing 3-4 characters still -_-;;.

One thing that annoyed me is the English translation. I played the game with the original Japanese voices, and it might just be me (my Japanese is very minimal), but there was a lot of "extra" English text that really made it somewhat obnoxious compare to what was actually being said in Japanese. It most likely is ok, if I just played the game with English voices.

At first, seeing the trailer and cover art, it definitely reminded me visually of Nausicaa. But after playing the game, it reminded me more of the Sakura Taisen series (pseudo-1900-1950 dating stimulation/turn-based strategy game) of the Sega Saturn and Dreamcast.

Oh, and my local Best Buy still have a lot of copies of the game. When I actually try to pick the game up, 3-5 days after it was released, they have not even put the game out for sale -_-;;.

I haven't played sakura taisen, my japanese isnt anywhere near strong enough especially since apparently the text dialogue is forced scrolling. Supposedly sakura taisen v (the western themed one) is getting localized this year though. The sakura taisen comparison shouldnt be surprising, since it was the same development team members. The story themes regarding war, ancient races, historic destructive events etc had a lot in common with nausicaa, imho.

About the english translation - I kinda know what you mean, but on the other hand, how as a translator do you handle situations where one side of the conversation is just "hai"? "Yes, sir, I understand, i'll do it immediately " like they use in valkyria is a little wordy, but just saying "yes" is going to seem really sterile in english.

Aside from playing around figuring out how damage scaling etc works, I'm working on another playthrough trying to A-rank everything without using any class training or weapon upgrades at all /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

About the nausicaa thing - there's an older interview with the developers, in which they explicitly talk about how much they were inspired by miyazaki

    http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/3859/emotions_and_war_the_valkyria_.php

"From the onset we knew that certain people may reject the game just by looking at it, even before they play it. We realize that, and we accept that, however we don't want to compromise on delivering the message of the game because of that."

Awesome interview, respect +100% for these developers.

I was checking this game out at my friends house and I kept getting a Skies of Arcadia vibe from it....

When I was bored I looked up the developer Sega WOW and found out it's a merger of the old WOW group and Overworks the creator of Skies and a whole bunch of my fav. Sega games.

This actually makes me wish I had time to play or a PS3 to play it on. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

^ The cure sound is like a direct sound rip from Skies of Arcadia's casting sounds too lol.

And you may know it now but three Skies characters are actually in this.

Game's amazing. Judging from the skirmishes/items I can upgrade, I'm about 3/4s the way through at this point. Regret neglecting the game this much up until now but got busy with tournaments /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

And wow, huge respect for them after that interview KoD.

Can you guys convince me to try skies of arcadia again? I love most of overworks' stuff, but I never got into the dreamcast original . . . I hear the gamecube version is better in regard to random encounters?

On my "no training, no weapon upgrades" playthrough of valkyria, I've made it to chapter 13 so far, with all A-ranks. This game shits all over "tactics" games that require grinding.

^Holy.sh. @ the no training to chapter 13 lol. You are the man. I'm on chapter 15 and not even getting A ranks all the time haha. Granted this is my first play through with trial and error, but I AM leveling ; ; True testament to the strategy in this game like you said.

Um, it's always tough to recommend oldschool RPGs. Sometimes nostalgia skews opinions and what not, but Skies remains in my top 5 RPGs to this date. Just the sense of exploration and cool atmosphere made the game for me. It was very unique at the time (still is really). Story and cast are enjoyable too. If you've got time, I'd say check it out. And I've heard the same too about the GC version, but I had played the DC one so I can't really comment.

Skies of Arcadia does very well in giving you a nice sense of exploration. I liked the main characters in the game, but the story/combat system is fairly average, imho.

Never played the Gamecube verson, but they did add extra content.

Seems like KoD was right about this game becoming rare so soon, and SEGA have said they will not be sending out any more stock lol.

With all the bad rep Sega gets, at least they did something right this time :). Looking forward to the extras in the DLC.

This game was epic, definitely enjoyed playing this game the past 3 months with 75 hrs and countin.im stil trying to get two more medals, the armament medal and the Randgriz one at the very bottom right in the decorations tab. DLC gonna keep me interested in it a while longer.

Got the dlc last night. Havent had a chance to check out edy's mission or the hard ex mode, but the selvaria DLC is well worth it despite (or for some people, i suppose, because of) the blatant fanservice.
