    Hey guys,

Im new to this game (yet another DoA player :p) and i really like vanessa, but i read that shes a hard character for beginners because she needs to switch between the 2 stances a lot. is this true? is it best to just start playing with her? or should i start learning the game with Lau and switch over to vanessa when i get better?

Lots of threads like this one already, kind sir.

Play whoever you like. Experiment and see who feels "right".

    Fuck that.

    It degrades my uniqueness.

If you think you need to use both stances, then you're wrong. Look for my many rants (i.e. DS > OS).

If you want to use her but the issue of her being "hard" makes it difficult, then don't bother and pick someone "easy."

    blah blah

    Play who you want X1,000,000.

Vanessa isn't hard to use but you have to use her two stances differently. You may not need to use both stances during every match (depending on how the opponent plays) but they both have distinct advantages. Neither stance is better than the other in general but there are times where a certain stance will make a fight easier. Ex : DS vs Shun.

As a new player to VF5, I choose Vanessa too. You have to keep in mind the differences between the two, but when you get used to it, you find her far more versatile. Of course, versatility always cranks up the difficulty of the character, but keep in mind, all the grapplers, whether they have one, two, or five hundred stances are considered expert characters.

you switch between stances with /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif while in neutral, or with the same input in some of her strings. There is a huge difference between those stances, as they are literally offensive, and defensive /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
More precisely, DS has a different set of moves from the OS. DS allows you to perform evasive(not evading :p )moves while holding guard, perform reversals, catch punches while in neutral, and beat the crap out of your opponent. OS on the other hand has Tackle (or Mount) which behaves as a catch throw, quick strikes, and moves that cover quite a lot of distance /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif For more, check the game dude.

Anyway, I am in a good mood, so I answered, but PLZ: Use the command lists provided by VFDC, or (if you by any chance own the game) complete the command training in DOJO.
Like I said, helping new ppl is one thing, but anserwing simple questions, 'cause someone was too lazy to check it is the other. And by other I mean dumb.

Hiya! I just mained Vanessa a couple weeks ago. And for me she was easy to learn. Her offensive stance is really fun to play, I always use her OS. You can just switch stances before the match begins.

If u think u will main vanessa then start with her as soon as possible. I've been playing for almost half a year maybe 4 1/2 months or so with lei fei and i get better every week and am far from maxing out. If u think u are going to shoot up the ranking bar in online or dominate u are mistaken BTW. Seriously, the only real advantage to learning lau first is that when u switch to vanessa u will be familiar with lau when u fight him. But the sooner u start with vanessa the sooner u will be good with vanessa. Look at her extra stance as a BONUS!! If ya don't know the game, then mashing ppppppppppp with vanessa with an xtra stance will be no better or worse than mashing ppppppp with lau. Use vane. You'll be glad u did. P.S. I've never used her lol. Long live lei fei.
