So i hear people throw around this term quite a bit. And honestly, because i love vf5 so much, i take an irrational personal slight from it. Please realize though, vf5 is my first foray into "high-level" competition. Before vf online, it was 60 hours versus the CPU and i was done.

Can someone give an intelligent argument as to why this is Vanilla fighter in their opinion. What is the difference between this and past iterations that were not Vanilla fighter...anyone. An intelligent reason.

Usually vanilla means the first in a series.

    VF5 Vanilla, VF5R.
    VF4 Vanilla, 4EVO, 4FT.

Or Unreal Tournament Vanilla, UT2004, and UTIII.

    Starcraft Vanilla, Starcraft Brood War.

It's just a reference to the original VF5 (i.e. not VF5R), and you'll probably only find 'vanilla' being used in the context of comparison with VF5R.

And here I thought when something is 'vanilla,' it'd mean that the are just ordinary...

So, yeah... If anyone can give me a clear definition of this term, it'd be a learning experience. ^^

It means the original version of the game.

I have version C for the 360 so I have never played Vanilla VF5.

I think specifically it means the old version before the new one. So we are all playing Vanilla VF5, since VF5:R is the "bees knees" right now.

No...VF5 any version is vanilla. Just as VF4 any version is vanilla compared to EVO or FT. It doesn't matter if you are playing version A or D. The reason people use 'vanilla' is because there is no distinguishing subtitle to the main title to set it off from the following games.

This term can be avoided by having the first game titled like 'SF2: World Warrior' so people say WW instead of vanilla to distinguish it come the major updates like CE,HF,ST.

Disney executives had no faith in the first Pirates of the Caribbean and didn't think there would be any sequels. The producers, people with brains, knew the movie would be a smash hit and fought like crazy to have the movie titled as if it was the first in a series.

At first i though vanilla meant vf5 was plain compared to previous editions but i was wrong. The actual definition is stupid as hell no offense to the creator. Oh well make me no never mind. If its VF5 its VF5,If its VF5:R the its VF5:R(Until i hear VF5:R Vanilla lol!)

For the first sentence, I think he's saying that the term "Vanilla 5" is idiotic. I disagree, as VF5 is plain VF5, and vanilla = plain, therefore "Vanilla 5" in my opinion is a suitable description.

The second sentence however I have no idea what was said. I guess it's an "unknown unknown".

    He's saying it doesn't matter and doesn't make a difference, to him it's vf5.

You can use context clues to gleam wtf someone is saying.
