Versus City has been upgraded. I'll be adding in my modifications slowly over the coming days (front page login, instant commands, etc) so just bare with me.

Let me know in this thread of any problems in the meantime.

Some of the new features include:

<ul type="square">[*]Added in an option for users to change their display names.
[*]Added in an option to mark all posts as read.
[*]Changed the front page to show the subject of the last post along with who posted it for each forum.
[*]Reworked favorite forums. These will no longer display in the "My home" area. Instead there will be a toggle on the main forum listing page that will allow users to display all forums or only their favorite forums.
[*]Added a reply with quote option.
[*]Added a new option when moving a thread to leave a pointer at the old location of the thread.
[*]Added an option to add a thread to your favorites when posting or replying.
[*]Made the Favorite thread and Reminders links into toggles. This means clicking once will add the thread/post to your favorites/reminders. Clicking again will remove it.
[*]Added alphabetical navigation to User List.
    [/list]

One regular is facing problem.....unable to login at all..
he clicks login and it immediately goes to 'my home'~

(update...if anyone has problems logging in..plz reboot ur PC. Chances are, u went to bed or left ur PC on when VFDC boards were updated...n IE kinda remembered u logging in b4 ..leading to all sorta weird shit~.....anyway....plz try rebooting..it works!)

And...am I supposed to be seeing UGLY WHITE BORDERS at the 'Re *topic*....edit, reply, qoute* section whenever there is a new post/reply?

Coz some new post has em..some don't~

I like being able to change my nick though...seeing how the old one was officially *non-existent* since what, 2 yrs ago when ppl started calling me something else? ^0^

Yes I know, nothing to get excitied abt~

I recently ran into the "click login and it takes you to my home" issue, and the source of the problem seems to have been the fact that I was logged into VFDC at another computer then tried to go about my business on this one.

I logged out of the other computer and that didn't fix it, I deleted the cookie on this one and that fixed it. Someone said deleting cookies didn't work for them... my only guess is they forgot to check "Delete all offline content" or tried to hunt down one specific cookie and it wasn't the right one.

in flat mode, this new version no longer displays in the header who the post was replying to. so now it is harder to tell who is replying to who. very annoying.

Had a quick look around and found out that, with the transition to user numbers (which makes changing usernames possible), the poster's name is no longer stored with the post.

Here's the official response from the head developer:

Unfortunately, the Re: Username isn't going to be possible. Since we no longer store the username in the posts table it would require another JOIN against the user's table to find out what the user's display name is. There's already one join against that crosses the users/posts table and this would make it even more complex. An unfortunate side-effect of going to user numbers for everything. This was the only thing I wasn't able to resolve.

If you really want to see who is being replied to you could always switch back to threaded view. Otherwise, you'll just have hope people address who/what they're replying to in their posts. The "quote" feature may help things a bit, but I strongly discourage people from quoting an entire, espcially long, post only to add a one-liner at the end.

Edit: some guys have written hacks to implement the in-reply to Username feature, but it's at a hefty overhead. To do it properly would mean 2 extra queries per post! By default, there are 10 posts per page in flat mode, so this will add +20 queries to every page viewed. I can see our SQL connections getting clogged up in no time. I'll keep an eye out if something better comes along, otherwise you'll just have to get used to it.

Edit again: If you hover your mouse over the subject line you'll see a popup indicating the post no. being replied to (Re: to post #123456). You could just scan up the page and look for that post no. since they're all displayed in the message header now. Too bad if the post being replied to isn't on the same page though /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I've noticed that dashes "---" are automatically inserted between your message and your signature (if you have one). So, if you have dashes in your signature, you should go and remove them as they're now redundant.

OK, the Re: Username is back for flat mode users! Found a mod which only adds another 2 queries total (as opposed to 2 per post).

Please use variable width for tables. It seems that it's fixed width since there are large black areas on both sides of the "screen".

    Please see this. Thanks.

    Re: Who loves ya?

Versus City, not to mention the entire site, has always used a fixed width -- so what prompted you to ask for variable width now? /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif I'm assuming it has nothing to do with this latest upgrade.

I'll consider changing only Versus City to use a variable width, but I'd also have to redesign the header graphic to suit. I'll see what I can do, but don't expect anything too soon.
