    Hey guys,
What strategies do you employ vs. Jackys? I find that whether its a 5th Dan Jacky or its a 10th Dan Jacky, problems ensue. How do you like to deal with:

    1. His numerous high low and low high combos?

    2. His range and constant back walking? (seem incredibly safe to me, and my range moves aren't quite rangy enough)

    3. His seemingly endless string of half circular and full circular moves that look linear til they bust up your evade?

    4. and the other hurdles to overcome for fighting him (lol, i know way vague, i had a good list going but i'm multi tasking at work, and 10 mins later they elude me.)

Coz? VF5935? Konjou? Social Ruin? Linz? Marlo?

also no lei fei's feel free to chime in with your theoretical approach. Obviously i try to crowd them b/c it makes them uncomfortable, but the application is the tricky part, not so much the idea.

    Thanks all.

If you block any string thats mid..Duck and punish (alot of his strings ends in either high or low)if he continues. If jacky finishes hes strings and you block them hes about at -16 for most of them so Punish.

I'd consider throwing away 2P and making low defense a non issue. Really I believe
Jacky has crap for decent lows. On hit and or normal hit they all leave hit at disadv
    anyway.

    1. First check if the Jacky favors a neutral stick position. Pak Sao will foil your
    punch mixups.

    2. Learn to read their beat Knuckle habits. Also try to learn how to duck the kick
on reaction. Most Jackys don't even hit check this move.

    3. Pay attention as to where the jacky likes to hop back from. Know the moves
where the hop back retreat is available as well.

    4. Use the Evasite power of Lei Feis dodge + attacks like u/f P, 2 p+k when Jacky
starts to get punch happy. Don't complete the strings all the time but put in
delays and throws. If you see jacky backwalk get out of STANCE! Or go to crane
he's probably going to beat knuckle.

    5. Know the range of your 6,6 p and 6,6 p+k. They are good at pursuit if you need
to pursue; however trying to run in and throw jacky is an AWFUL IDEA. Look to use
your punch Sabaki as well especially after jackys f+p, almost all jackys will hit
check this to death to see what you do.

    6. After Jackys Punt Kick on guard p,p I think will hit, or throw. Don't just block it without punishing.

    7. Oh and don't do a rising kick from the ground. Jacky has a million easy ways to
punish it and I do mean easy.

    my 2 cents.

You have Lei man sometimes you have to take the risk of forcing him to slow down by using /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif stance to catch any /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif string he may start or any /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif he may attempt. The best part is once you go into this stance and you don't see anything happen within say a split second you can then immediately drop down to /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif stance where you have 2 different sabaki type moves you can choose from to interrupt what you think he will do next. I don't know Lei, but I am pretty sure /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif is one from that stance and then just /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif with /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif follow up is the other. Play around with those I guess.

Good solid defense helps to as I understand you pain and know how hard it can be to defend against his attack barrage.

Also you might want to use /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif delayed /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif against him or better yet /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif. You have all the tools to own him, you just need to learn how to apply them based on your style and that's not something any of us can help you with.

You don't know lei? I thought you had a pretty solid lei??? didn't YOU list YOURSELF as one of the top 10 u.s. Lei Fei players?
Even if not, i'm more than willing to take any advice you're willing to share...you da boss!

I'm with Konjou - I haven't played with Lei since VF4, but I always found that his /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif was a great tool for getting punch-happy players to back off. However, please follow Konjou's advice and don't just go into this stance and then stay there. I keep getting free sweeps using Brad against lower-level Lei players that go into this stance and then freeze when I don't punch them. Go to dojo and practice just going into this stance and then figure out some of your best options for getting out of it and maintaining some momentum and confusion.

In my own experience, the first thing I find I have to do when I'm playing Jacky is to show them that they'll get in trouble if they get to string crazy or try to just go nuts with fast punch attacks. Setting this baseline gets them to back-off a little bit and play more carefully, at which point you can start to bring your own offense into the mix.

I kid a lot in terms of self proclaiming myself best at random chars. It's just fun! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Yeah I dabble with Lei a little, but it's just dabbling. Answering your question actually just helped me figure out how to improve my Lei. I think you should play around with the stuff I suggest and learn how to use his sabaki's. Keep in mind he has TONS of them. Even the stance you can do to after /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif has that /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif follow up sabaki. Use those things more I guess.

Yeah i'm familiar with all his sabaki's, i just don't feel real confident going in against jacky's b/c i feel like he has too many safe alternatives. Its like someone said elsewhere, i think happy friend, it seems like he doesn't have to work very hard to give a formidable oppisition thats hard to break through.
where this is particularly frustrating is that 5-8th dan jacky's give me more trouble than i feel they should. More so than any other charactar. I still do decent agianst some of the mid to masters, Democr..., Air Jacky (played him once, lol and won, not enough to base a real opinion off of), Bizzado, etc...

I'll definitely work on all the above suggestion.
and your Lei Fei is quality regardless, i've played him some and was impressed.

Heh my Lei Fei is based off of Konjou and Risen Glory. Play Risen if you can find him.

    Rock > Scissors
    Scissors > Paper
    Paper > Rock

In terms of players level of play:

    Intermediate > Beginners
    Beginners > Experts
    Experts > Intermediates

This is not entirely true, but I hope you can see where I am going with this. It's just the way it works. Experts lose to beginners often because they are expecting to much. I think you are just giving those 5th - 8th Dan players to much credit. If you know you are better then be confident and play like you are better and stop worrying. Believe me I can relate... I feel the same way about Shun players no matter what level they are on. But I find I do fine once I just put the thoughts out of my mind and just play my game. I know it's hard, but you have to find a way to do it.

One thing I took away from Playing to Win was that the benefit of not "over-exerting" yourself early on. Like Konjou says, Experts often expect too much, and are giving beginner opponents too much credit.

It's always more rewarding to play creatively and use depth and variety, but sometimes, against beginners, that really is our downfall. If it's working, then stick with the same move over and over until your opponent has figured out how to deal with it. If my opponent keeps letting me get minor counters with one move repeated, then I'll keep repeating that move until they've moved beyond it.

It's not playing cheap, it's using what works, and adapting only when necessary.

Jacky has a very small amount of low attacks. They are all linear and in most cases leave him at a disadvantage. 1p is great for baiting but its nothing above and beyond anyone else. His handful of low kicks are mostly part of a small string, like 1pk. I don't see where TWP is crazy here?

1p is hands down one of jackys strongest moves. Hes at disadvantage after it FOR A REASON.

Its good move no doubt but is it a stand out move over other characters in the game? Not at all. Does it make his low attacks some of the best in game? No. Its great for his arsenal but overall Jacky's low game is not that great by any means.

Funniest thing is one day, I tested this. I was playing Konjou and he was whipping
me according so I said fuck it. I started playing like an ass with no rhyme or reason. Getting hit and just P,P,P'ing abare too hell with random kicks and punches.
    Wouldn't you know...I won!

    Now it didn't work twice.

almost all low attacks on hit are at disadvantage FOR A REASON if they don't knock down. I think jeffs 2k+g is an exception but it has bad recovery on guard.

I could be wrong and I probably am afterall. <======
Take what I say with the same official stamp as you'd take say

1p Is good for poking but it really isn't all that great of a move in retrospect. Jacky needs it without 1p his opponents can easily block his highs and mid pokes without any fear at all its by NO means a ducking low (jeffery 2K+G)
