VF champions

I heard on another video game board that Sega decides who will be the winner of each VF tournament based on an actual tournament, and that's how Lau, Akira, and then Kage won it. Is that true? If so, when'where is this contest held, and which character won it for VF4?

 

The biggest VF4 contest Kakutou Shinseiki 1 was won by Napoleon Jacky.

For VF4:Evolution, the tournament was Kakutou Shineiki 2, which was won by Minami Akira.

I think he was asking about an actual tournament that decides about "the winner" of the game. As far as I'm concerned, it was decided this way only at VF1 - someone correct me if I'm wrong (old school people, come on). On a side note, the winner was declared every time after the next VF in the series was released.

 

oh, that makes sense. someone had just told me that's how it was decided that Lau, Akira, and Kage were the winners. I hope they don't do that anymore, cuz I'd hate it for Jacky to win.

 

If that and Emp's statements are true, then how would they decide if someone won the next big tournament? They're starting qualifying matches this month if I'm not mistaken... I only gave it a once over on VF.net though.
