I know not everone goes to VFZone for the news, but there's always a tasty tidbit every now and then. I stumbled across this news post showing off the Japanese version of evo's box cover art. Enjoy.

    Very "Tekkenish".
Which isn't that bad as far as box art is concerned

My boy Akira looks like a jerk off with the up yours fist pose. And what is with the freaking facial expression? He seems like he just wake up and is recovering from a VF marathon or something. /versus/images/icons/tongue.gif

I'd prefer the group photos more than this kind of character favoritism, if there is such a thing. /versus/images/icons/tongue.gif They could have done a lot better and what is with Sega trying to be even more Tekkenish then Namco?

Sal, you do know that you scare me with the fact that you have everything VF and there is no stopping your obession for it. Correct me if I'm wrong, hehehe. /versus/images/icons/grin.gif

So, hating or liking it isn't a deciding factor in your case?

Hey Sal, I am kinda new to this finding. But did you or do you own the japanese saturn disks that are on sale with various VF characters? VF CG portraits. That is what I was trying to think of as I was typing? ARe they worth getting? What do they actually have? Any information is well appreciated. I just found out about this. Yes, I am slow. lol

I personally feel that the box art is completely appropriate in communicating what it should. Akira is VF's "star player," if you can appreciate the allusion, and Evo introduces two new characters to the game. If they had elected to go with a group shot, the impact of the two new characters would be dimished (especially to casual consumers, which are by far and away gaming companies' most important audience).

Beyond that, the actual composition is a bit suspect. Those head shots of Goh and Brad have been around for a while, so for people who've been following the game for a while aren't wowed by anything new (just check out the title art on VFZone for proof of that). The Akira is definately non-traditional; the references to it being Tekken-ish seems to imply a negative connotation, which I'm going to stay away from /versus/images/icons/grin.gif . I definately get a Mishima vibe from it, and I'll leave it at that. It's a step up from the last cover art imo.

sup stomp... not sure if you're talking about these, but if you mean the gold discs with CG portraits of everyone in VF2 doing various things (lion walking the dog, pai putting on makeup, akira chilling in a hut)... those are all ripped and I have the images available to send to you on irc.
They're old so they models aren't realistic, but the composition and backgrounds are interesting.

These days, this probably would require an ESRB rating to be used in a game.

Hey creed, I think that's what it was. On the japanese saturn. I thought that was kinda cool. Since the Japanese are crazy for vf stuff. They were only 8 dollars each. Thanks for the offer Creed. I'll have to talk to you when I am at imf's place.

I think the box art is appealing Certainly better than the normal VF4 box. Thats one thing Tekken has allways done better than VF, and thats Box art. Now VF's box is lookin pretty hot. If they keep it like that if they release it in the states then it should sell more than normal VF4, lol. Just cause alot of american consumers judge books by the covers(sadly) Tekken 4 has a pretty cover is it as good as VF4, ummmmm NO!(still a good game tho....i was a Tekken nut just until recently) Found out that VF is like the good girl that wants to spend time with you and get to know you but you have to commit to her, and then itll be the best thing, maybe slow at the beginning but turns into somethin amazing. Tekken on the other hand is a Girl that wants to Sleep with you on the first night and get it on giving you all right away with No work like some Hoochie, and its still the same as the first day after 2 years....Not too great. I also enjoy playing VF against the comp whereas in Tekken i hate it, only like playing that game period if a friend is around. /versus/images/icons/grin.gif
