VF3 and Arashi the Sumo?

I barely got to play VF3. I'd totally forgot about it the other day. (I still don't remember much of the game as I only got to play it one weekend in the arcades). But I was wondering what everyone knows or thinks why they changed a bit of KF3 back to more standard rings (did have unringed matches right) and such.

I would have like to have seen rings and non rings fights.

And was Arashi a worthless player compared to the rest. Is that why he was junked?

One urban legend told that one tetsujin won a tournament in Japan by over 200 matches winning streak. There are a wealth of material concerning Taka in this very site. I think he was an awesome character, really inspirational to say the least and I´d like to see him again as soon as possible.

As for his reasons for getting ditched, I have heard many stories. One was that he simply wasn´t so popular (think less sexy that Brad or Jeff in Evo) and the other one is that his flobbering "attributes" were just a bit too much of a challenge to make work with allowed prodiction schedule AM2 had. Both of these reasons have been addressed by Mr Suzuki, I believe.

I´m a Taka fan. He had super armour, good throw game and lots of interesting mind games. Sega, bring him back with a vengeance!!! /versus/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I liked the preposterous combos you could do on him with Shun and Lion /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I heard that they axed Taka because the game is slightly quicker than Vf3 and Taka would look silly tech-rolling and quickly dodging like he's in the circ de solei.

They should bring him back and get rid of stupid Brad.

Why not keep them all in and give Dural some Heihachi treatment that they can get her in too. I want to see a taekwondo-char...

well when i used to work at sega, someone told me that in the jap version of vf3, having 2 takahashis in vs mode would cause the entire game engine to fuck up, or some kind of major bug. So they decided that they had to remove him for the good of the gaming quality of vf4,

I kinda think that since VF3 and VF3:TB was pretty well played someone should've found that major bug.

In Shun stage, the whole stage would flood, if both Taka went in the same raft, I think...

That was a Dreamcast bug(?). VF is primarily an arcade game and there weren't any problems or bugs associated with Taka overloading the system. I think it's safe to say that any decisions to not include Taka have absolutely nothing to do with a home port.

There have already been a number of official words on why Taka isn't in 4, so if anyone's curious just dig around for interviews. In a nutshell, as someone mentioned, Taka was already an exception of sorts in VF3 and to make the exception work in VF4 would have been either too hard, just not possible or just not elegant enough as a solution. It also goes against the general idea behind Sumo to have him flipping and rolling around like a nimble fighter -- I, for one, wouldn't have liked to have seen it come to that, it would have looked ugly.

Let´s see... Taka could do kip-up in VF3, quick rolls would look funny only because he is so fat and the biggest problem I see here is that he would never really float and bounce combos would happily ruin the VF4 physics. Oh Well, he WAS cool.... /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

the bug had the boat in the raft stage completely flip over and go completely awry and start floating every which way. if you placed characters on the invisible border between the rafts and the boat you could get the limbs to glitch out in the most hilarious ways (extreme contortions). you could also throw people floating meters above you.

and you didn't even need two taka's to do it, or even one. iirc even jacky or akira could get it if you tooled around with it enough. needed to hop up and down on certain edges of the boat.

i think the only solid bug in the arcade version of tb is wolf always being able to get the d+P+G after his giant swing in the raft stage. dunno if you could call that a bug, though. kage's kickflip always had a slightly fucked up animation, too. i'm probably forgetting others, too.

they just could make Taka lose a bit of weight to put him back in looking more like Chiyonofuji /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I've never done it with any other character besides Taka but I've only ever done it with one Taka and another character.

Rich is completely on the money on how it was done. Get a heavyweight and another character at opposite corners of the raft (shun's) stage and either wait for the rise and fall of the raft to become extreme or accelerate the process by hopping up and down.

I don't believe it would have been a "DC only" bug if VF3 arcade allowed an infinite time mode. The bug required too much time to get the characters established on their respective corners let alone set up the required conditions before the raft became unreal in its undulations in the alloted time of the Arcade version.

I think the pick up after the GS with Wolf on that same stage isn't a bug so much as an overlooked by-product of the physics of a character hitting the raft.

If Taka were to return in the next VF, there would be too much simularities with Wolf and Jeffry. Taka is a grappler in my opinion we already have two.

Ever tried TFT on Taka /versus/images/graemlins/crazy.gif, and they said VF was realistic fighting

the topic caused me to take a pick axe to the gummed up recesses of my plastered mind. i remember quite clearly now that only aoi/aoi matches left you unable to get the boat bug. ANYONE above aoi could do it if you messed around with it enough. matt and i did more than a few experiments on this. actually, even then i'm not sure...we may have gotten aoi/aoi to hop just in the right way on the right edge.

and i have to disagree, i don't believe it is possible on the arcade version. i tried it many many times in the 30 seconds given, and got quite good at getting taka and jeff or jacky (heaviest with a TA move) in position. it got somewhat close, but i have to give my opinion that even with ? time, it can't be done in the arcade version. remember also that you have ~5 seconds after time is called to see what happens...and it never really came close.

Didn't the TFT have a different animation for Taka? IIRC, Kage kinda tries to kick him up in the air, but Taka barely gets airborne so kage just slams him to the ground or something.

I say he gets launched 5ft in the air, Kage is strong charecter. Also I remember one of Lau's throws is different when done on Taka, if I remember currectly Lau's [4] [6] [P]+[G]
