VF4 competition by dynamic league.....

I visited the tournament on the 17th and was very dissappointed by the way it was organised. I think the organisers should re-consider a no memberships, selling magazines for 50p and winners should be given some kind of a trophy or something. I think Derrick made some money over his membership idea and people didn't even realise how much they all lost at the end of the night.

The hope of being sponsored by some company is just some weird collaboration in order for players to join his dynamic league thing (make some bucks!).

    The point is :

    one machine.
    50 competitors or more.
    £3 for membership (what?).
50p for some magazine (printed out from a toilet paper).
none free game (all players had to pay to play).
no media coverage whatsoever (not even sega).

    Derrick re-consider your idea.....

Virtualmist, I'd like to see you make a better magazine than the ones we've made. I'd like to see you organise a better tournament than what we've organised. I'd also like to see you get some coverage from the likes of GamesMaster Magazine to do media coverage on your tournaments. Until I see that, you're actully in no position to comment like that. Toilet paper my arse. Fecking Dundus...

No offense guys, but Virtualmist merely expressed his opinion about the format and organization of the tournament. Steve, you immediately get defensive. Asking if he can do better is not an excuse. Remember, it's his opinion. And Derrick, your comment is way off base. C'mon, you're suggestion that only players who win at your events have the right to express their opinion.

Virtualmist states the facts of the tourney. If you guys think your setup is picture perfect then you're completely blind. There's always room and need for improvement - and I know because I have run and organized many VF events. They've been successful because I take the input from my participants - all of them, not just the winners - seriously.

    It's all good fun!

    All feedback is good.

But I'm still going to kick his butt with my Lion if I catch him.

We still got a long way to go.
There will be a lot of interesting changes in the system for the next event.

    VFNet watch out !

His Wolf was so good I'm sure he is a Yu Suzuki secret agent. He steamed right into the league 3rd place.

Llanfair, of course he's expressing his opinion, which I have no problem with. Its his wording that peeves me off. If he was more selective with his words, then I wouldn't have a problem. Instead of saying that the magazine was made out of toilet paper, say the magazine could of been printed on better quality paper. If he wants to express his opinion, express it in a more contructive way.

Virtualmist hasn't stated the facts. It was for from it. Lets go thru the list:

    one machine.
What do you mean by one machine? We had 16 titles being played at the same time, which means we had 16 machines in the tournament. We could add even more titles in this range if people are willing to compete in titles like Puzzle Bobble, Marital Masters, The Last Blade etc. We've even had a Dreamcast down the arcade with Soul Calibur and SNK vs Capcom 2, which makes 18 titles. Tell me a tournament league that is currently running that features 18 titles at any one time?

    50 competitors or more.
What do you mean by "50 competitors or more"?? Do you want more people or less people in the competition?

    £3 for membership (what?).
The Dynamic League is a club. With many clubs, you need to pay for membership. Membership usually entitles you to privillages. Now what we offer when you as a member is:

Knowing you'll have the best players competing
Knowing that your scores are being recorded
Knowing that there could be special prizes involved
Knowing that you can actually get paid for playing in the tournaments
Knowing that you can get sponsored by a well known company
Knowing that you are part of a constantly growing club.
Knowing that there will be another tournament around the corner.

These priviallages will increase as we get bigger and bigger.

50p for some magazine (printed out from a toilet paper).
As I've said before, I would like to see this person make a better magazine at such a low price. And I can definiately tell you that he cannot do it. It takes a lot of hard work to get the magazine to where its at. When the mag first came out it was printed on an inkjet printer. Now we've gone to the next step of getting the magazine printed in our local printers, so the quality has increased ten-fold. If you need proof, just buy all our issues and you'll see the progress from issue one to issue five.

none free game (all players had to pay to play).
Players have pay credit for the games so that the community as a whole can support the arcade industry. Without that support, there will be no arcades. And then there will be no tournaments. If you really want to play without paying credit, go to our console tournament next month.

no media coverage whatsoever (not even sega).
Again, what do you mean by that? in media coverage, do you mean TV, magazines, newspapers? or do you mean media coverage as in fan coverage like VFDC, Tekken Zaibatsu, etc? the "not even sega" made this statement even more confusing.

I can understand the concern about having to pay for the individual games.
Isn't there a way you could strike a deal with the arcade operators on renting the machine(s) on certain days and for tournaments?
For example, you could make VF nights on a certain weekday (or maybe alternate between 2) where Dynamic League rents the machine for a couple of hours and then all members can play as much as they want after paying a an entrance fee for the night.
That's what we did on smaller gatherings here in Copenhagen, it's really much more fun for everybody. It's also a good business for the arcade operator in the end, since you'll be playing there more often.
