    Heya,

Haven't seen anyone else mention it, so I thought I'd note that I checked out the North American version at E3 today. Looks identical apart from the text... which is enough - I could now begin to understand the quests and challenges, etc.

I talked to a couple of guys who said that the memory card system is the same /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I tried my lame Evo Akira vs. a decent Sarah player and got schooled. Was awesome finding some real gameplay at the sugar-rush that is 3 though...

It's almost like they are expecting it to fail. /versus/images/graemlins/mad.gif
It's coming out within 2 weeks of the launch of Soul Calibur 2, Save issue isn't fixed, and it's a Greatest Hits title. If only Sega had more faith in us. /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif At least we are getting it though.

You know if I didn't start a petition or write Sega about it constantly I wouldn't be so pissed. But the fact is I invested alot of time into letting Sega know that we know of this problem and they ignore it and our complaints really annoys me. /versus/images/graemlins/mad.gif

It is not that Sega does not care about Evo, it is just that we (most American gamers) don't care at all about the VF series, in fact most kids at my campus have no idea what VF is.

I asked a couple kids last week what fighting games they had heard of, some DOA and SC, but mostly MK and SF, only one VF! This was out of life 200 people, all of my professors new the MK series when I mentioned it.

Who knows, maybe if Sega would just put VF.Net in the US it might actually be popular (take a look at Everquest, who knew it would change RPG history). Arcades in the US are dying, save DDR and SCII, there is not one mainstream game worth throwing coins away for most.

And speaking for E3, what the fuck is Sega doing!!

First of all Yu Suzuki (the stupid asshole, I mean "nice man") never shows up to promote VF, it is always left up to Sega to cover his ass, but this year with Sega out of the console wars, and with mergers etc. to deal with, the VF4 Evolution booth is so pitiful, I will try to upload some pictures of it, but it is so sad.

The only thing you can do of the game is watch a friggin abysmal trailer, which consists of a total newb taking on the ARCADE AI (omg Sega what are you doing).

In a way, Sega is killing VF in the states, becuase they suck at pushing it, no commercials, no posters, no arcade machines, no joysticks, memory cards, trailers, Yu Suzuki, no VF.Net, and most of all no save system. That proves that they don't litsten to thier american fans.

I have seen all of the top VF players in Japan live, I have played on all of the VF Evo arcade machines, in Japan, Europe, and even in America.

In Japan, the arcade was packed, I never thought I would have to wait in line at an arcade, but holy crap, there was no room at all, it was crazy.

Europe, this arcade was mammoth, and once I showed my colleagues VF4 Evo, we all started to play and got a fairly large group to play with us, it lasted nearly three hours.

America, I was the only one who played VF Evo, I played against the AI, it sucked alot and was boring.

Sega will care about American VF, when Americans care about Sega's VF, that is the bottom line!

Actually, think about it - why the hell should they bother spending the time and money fixing the save system when Sony America is bascially FORCING them to sell the game at a $30 price? It doesn't make sense, financially.

VF.net is an absolute impossibility in the US arcades. Japan is a small country, where it is easy to hook most arcades up to a broadband connection, and have data fed to them constantly through central servers (the data on VF.net is CONSTANTLY updated. When Fishie came here, he was amazed at how well the systems could handle to constant processing and demand). It's expensive both for Sega and arcades, but because they KNOW VF is popular in Japan and VF.net connections will bring in money, they keep it strong. How much would it cost to have servers like these in the US, which is a LOT bigger? What would make the idea of getting expensive card readers and a broadband connection appealing to American arcades, which are currently suffering a prolonged slump? Why take a chance on something they don't KNOW will bring in money?

BTW, Yu Suzuki is merely a poster boy. The masterminds behind Evo are the Kataoka/Katagiri dynamic duo (check the game's credits, look who the directors are). He's got a new position on the head of a different board of Sega, which is porbably what he's preoccupied with at the moment. Or washing one of his Ferraris.

Well, they don't have to provide VF.net for the entire nation...perhaps focus in on a few cities (NY or LA basically). But even with capex under control there simply isn't the demand.

Isn't Yu's role more like a CEO than in actual game development?

im sorry for posting stupid question.. but...

save system? what does it mean?
(gasp) does it mean that you won't be able to save anything on yer memory card for yer quest mode or yer character?
    i hope not... is it?

All children cover your ears for what I'm about to say. That being said: F@@@ this F@@@ing country and the dumb f@@@s who populate it. I'm sick and f@@@ing tired of good games getting screwed over for the likes of Tao Feng and MKDA. What f@@@ing masterminds thought this would be a good basis for the American gaming populus. However, there are people in America whose IQ is above 17 or so, and can realize that 1+1= ASS! This isn't funny anymore, it's not a frickin joke, people with actual abilities play this game and doesn't necessarily mean we speak Japanese and import (I'm poor for christ sake). Yes I have a copy and yes I play it but it takes something away when I'm going through the process of learning another language to play a game I enjoy and take seriously.

KojiroSon, you rule! Thats exactly how I think. Country is full of a bunch of simpletons that think Counter Strike is the greatest game ever created. And if they ever develop enough of a brain to memorize a few moves in a fighting game it must have blood (Tao Feng, MK), objectify females (DoA), pretty flashing lights and sparks (Soul Calibur). Of course simple gameplay throughout.

Back to the topic sorry. First, what exactly is the problem with the data files? I've just heard a lot of people say you can't have more than 2 of the same character a mem card. I have not imported this game so I don't know a ton about it- I try to focus on VF 4 only. I've had VF 4 since it was released but still feel I have a lot of work to do in it still, so I'm going to wait for the US release of Evo.

Second, I get so pissed seeing magazines and websites saying SC 2 is going to be the best fighting game ever. Hardly seem to see anything on VF. Tekken Tag is even better than SC 2 (btw I never see anyone play SC over Tekken in the arcades). I guess its all about the single player, flash, and easy gameplay. Damnit it just frustrates me, not to mention its embarassing

I've felt that way about the US before, but it wasn't about the gaming scene. XP

Seriously, though, Japanese gaming is not much better. Crap still sells here, it's just DIFFERENT crap than what sells in the US. Remember DBZ Budokai? That shitty PS2 fighter? Well, it's actually outsold VF4Evo quite handily here in Japan. A great shooter like Dodonpachi Daioujou only moves 50,000 units, and P.N.07 can barely pass the 10,000 mark. All while crappy manga licenses and Dragon Quest rehashes sell millions. Sigh.

While, VF is my absolute favorite fighting game I have to say that you are giving no credit to Soul Calibur. SC2 possesses more difficulty and depth than any Tekken, DOA, or MK title. Tekken Tag while the best in the Tekken series is an awesome game it comes in a solid 3rd place among 3D fighters. VF doesn't sell as well in the US because it doesn't add enough flash to the genre. Games like SC2, Tekken 4, and DOA3 have shitloads of bells and whistles on top of gameplay(I use that loosely for DOA3 and T4:p). I don't think that SC2 quite reaches the level of depth represented in VF, but if you give SC some time and read up on it's play mechanics you will see a very intricate machine. I thought it was shallow at first, but after a lot of reading and talks with WCMaxi I learned better. If you dont like the game, then that is cool. Just don't blast something in such an unknowing fashion. SC2 will sell exceptionally well here, because it is a solid game, has loads of replay value in the Weaponmaster Mode, caters to some fans whims with gimmick characters, and is the most beautiful fighter available.

The memory card issue is the fact that each character can only have 2 saves on it and you can not load, but 1 card onto the system at a time. So if you have a tricked out character on your memory card and your friend brings over his card with a tricked out person you both can;t load your characters. That makes gatherings a bit harder, since you have to set up your controls before each match if you don't use standard controls and you or your opponent will have to use a default character to play.

You have to vary your gameplay by modifying your attacks with steps, guaranteed frame advantage, becoming less predictable, and generally knowing what attack has the best chance of execution to allow yourself not to be caught up in a scrubby parry battle. They are easy to execute, but if not properly followed-up or timed will cause your defeat very easily.

Maybe the problem lies, not in the gameplay itself, in terms of sales and how Sega promotes it. Memory card issues aside, I think Namco is like PT. Barnum when it comes to fighting games and Sega is like Cirque due Soliel.

Sure its successful and midly popular, but it has a niche following. Whereas PT could sell ice to the eskimos. SC2 may be not up to par with VF, but the lemmings are going to grab it when it comes out. Hell I'm going too for Link.

At least we agree VF is best. I'll go back to SC some more. I've played it a lot (since Soul Edge) and it I think it seems a little too fast for such intricate details and it also seemed too easy for newbs to button mash. Not to mention the ring outs. I thought overall the game came down to twitch timing. Oh well, I must go find out why its better than Tekken .

That memory card problem is plain ridiculous, its so cool having your stats against other people you're playing with. WTF!!!!!!! /versus/images/graemlins/mad.gif If they're that damn lazy and stupid to not fix it, that almost makes me want to not get it. I know I won't be able to resist since its the best fighter though
