    Kage in evo

    Kage in Evo
    ===========

Mainly info collated from friends in Japan, plus green book and DVD.

    ------------
    [4]+[P]+[G]
    ------------
[4]+[P]+[G] - [2_][6]+[K] now connects on Pai, and since her weight is similar to Aoi ‘s (i.e. super lightweight) I’m guessing it should connect on her too. Could mean no more faffing about with [2]+[P]+[K], unless you’re going for ring-outs.

    -----------
    [2_][3]+[P]
    -----------
A new move, with very good priority. Floats on MC, but is also uncounterable if blocked.

[2_][3]+[P] MC Floats (last 2 maybe character and stance dependant):
    [2_][3]+[P] - [2]+[P]+[K][K]
    [2_][3]+[P] - [2]+[P] - [6][2][3]+[P]+[K]
    [2_][3]+[P] - [2]+[P] - [7]+[K]+[G]

    -------------
    [K]+[G][P][P]
    -------------
Another useful new move. The [K]+[G][P] acts like Jacky’s [6]+[P][P], even though the second [P] is high it cannot be interrupted with low attacks like [2]+[P]. Also [K]+[G][P] is a guaranteed canned combo, and because the first kick hits mid it's a good mC against crouch defended moves. The last [P] looks similar to the new [2_][3]+[P], but has different properties. It causes a stagger on MC, but is also elbow-class counterable if blocked.

    [K]+[G][P][P] flowcharts:
[K]+[G][P]...[P] (Mix up last P delay for MC)
    [K]+[G][P] - Throw
    [K]+[G][P] - [1][1] - [K]+[G][P] (Beats d+P MC attempts)

    -------------
    [BT] [7]+[K]
    -------------
The back-turned small flip-kick now gives Kage an advantage if blocked, and a float on hit. A useful option after moves that’s leave you back-turned, like [4]+[K] for example.

    [BT] [7]+[K] flowcharts:
    [BT] [7]+[K] - [BT] [P]+[K]
    [BT] [7]+[K] - [BT] [2]+[P]
    [BT] [7]+[K] - [BT] [P][K][G]/[P][P][4]+[P]
    [BT] [7]+[K] - [BT] [P]+[G]
    [BT] [7]+[K] - [BT] [7]+[K]/[BT] [P]+[K]+[G]

    [BT] [7]+[K] float:
    [BT] [7]+[K] - [BT] [P][K][G] - [7]+[K]+[G]

    -------
    QCF+[K]
    -------
Kage’s rolling squat kick now always ends back-turned and floats on hit ([P][K][G] - [7]+[K]+[G] is one possible follow-up). In previous versions you only got the [BT] float on a full charge MC hit. It’s also a good uramawari tool because Kage jumps forward a fair bit and can end up behind a rising opponent, and end up facing their back. It’s a more ‘useable’ move now, but still risky and not that useful.

    ----------------
    [BT] [P]+[K]+[G]
    ----------------
The new backwards somersault is an interesting addition, possibly allowing Kage to land behind an opponent (facing their back), if utilised properly. If you hold all 3 buttons down, than Kage lands into the Jumonji Stance. It’s quite a flashy move and does add to his uramawari tactics, but is not as useful an addition as [2_][3]+[P] or [K]+[G][P][P]

    --------------
    Jumonji Stance
    --------------
Kage’s Jumonji Stance has been improved for Evo. First up you can cancel the stance after more attacks, ala holding down [P]+[K] after the [JM] sabaki. New stance cancel moves include:

    ------------
    [JM] [K]+[G]
    ------------
Cancelling the [JM] [K]+[G] allows Kage to pull off some new combos after a successful hit. It also aids his defence if the [JM] [K]+[G] was blocked.

    [JM] [K]+[G] crumble combos:
    [JM] [K]+[G] (hold [K]+[G]) - [P][P][4]+[P][K]
    [JM] [K]+[G] (hold [K]+[G]) - [1]+[P][K][G] - [2]+[P]+[K][K]
    [JM] [K]+[G] (hold [K]+[G]) - [K]+[G][P][P]
    [JM] K+G - [JM] [P][K] (hold [K]) - [6][2][3]+[P]+[K]

    -----------
    [JM] [P][K]
    -----------
Kage’s [JM] [P][K] was one of his best options if his [6]+[P] into [JM] were guarded against because it beat strong, slow attacks. This was a useful tactic because opponents would use moves like a knee to beat [JM] [P]+[K] or [JM] [K]+[G]. The [K] hits mid and staggers, so you could cancel into a throw for example. Lastly the last K ([JM] [P][K][K]) is now throw-counterable so beware.

    ------------
    [JM] [6]+[K]
    ------------
Not that useful an addition, but a MC [JM] [6]+[K] does float so some new combos can be done.

    ------------
    [JM] [P]+[G]
    ------------
Once again not that useful. I suppose you could use the [JM] [P]+[G] cancel for uramawari stuff whilst in the stance.

    ---------
    [BT] [JM]
    ---------
Kage can now execute a high or low [P]/[K] when in a back-turned [JM] position. Kinda handy if you ever find yourself stuck in this situation.

    ------------
    [JM] [2]+[K]
    ------------
The [JM] [2]+[K] is now elbow-class counterable which is a pity.

    more to come

    cheers

    re: TFT, knee -
It always connected on pai, you just have to let the crouch dash out a little... no need to faff about with d+P+K ever (except that I find it's easier to do a well timed d+P+K combo than time a knee).

    great information from the dvd.
Does K+G do anything to a croucher? Stagger or stand them up? I don't remember seeing what happens, maybe it's just basic hit stun.

    Re: Kage in evo

I know that, perhaps I wasn't being clear. A standard buffered Knee will now connect on Pai, no extended crouch needed.

    K+G
I don't think it staggers...If it does though than that's cool, like having 2 dif sidekicks /versus/images/icons/wink.gif

    Re: Kage in evo

Can't confirm this at the mo, no Evo here, but I'm fairly certain that [2_][3]+[P] floats on a mC.

I say this because I have seen matches where Kage has blocked a low-level counterable move (Jeffry's [2]+[K]+[G] and Jackys [1]+PK in case you're wondering) and in both case's Kage has done an IMMEDIATE [2_][3]+[P] and floated for the [2]+[P]+[K] follow-up.

Maybe it's common news, but I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere.

    Can any Evoers confirm?

    cheers

Yep, I can confirm that it does float on mC. For a floater I wish the followups weren't so limited though.

Here's a nice combo I saw my friend do last night:

    [4][P]+[G] ~ [2][P]+[K] ~ [4][P] (hold [P]) ~ [P][K] (hold [K]) ~ [2][P]+[K][K]

    Re: Kage in evo

    Kage evo info update.

Right I've been playing him for a while now and here are some more observations.

    [6][6]+[P]+[K]+[G]
Has lost some hit detection near the end of animation. Does not float as far and does not beat rising kicks as easily.

    [2_][3]+[P]
Is not the ideal replacement for his old slap. You have to remember that it is not as fast as an elbow (I think it is arounf 16fr execution). It does float on a minor counter making it quite useful after dodge-crouchdash. Against light characters you can do [2]+[P] - [6][2][3]+[P]+[K] in closed stance or end with [7]+[K]+[G] in OS.

    [2]+[K]+[G]
Still not [P] counterable but def more delay, may have gone upto -10.

    [BT] [7]+[K]
You only have the advantage if you opponent blocks the later stages of the [7]+[K] animation (gets blocked 'on the way down'). You should only do this follow-up after the [4]+[K] if you've 'conditioned' your opponent to be wary of the [4]+[K][K]. Even though you have the adv it's not big, you can't really trun-around and apply pressure, you will lose the initiative. On MC you can always follwo-up with [BT] [P][K][G] - [7]+[K]+[G]

    [JM] [G]
The guard cancel is slower, back to version B speed.

    [BT] [JM] [2]+[P]
Stomach Crumbles, not sure if you need MC...

    [JM] [2]+[K]
Is elbow counterable now, so you cannot got for a [JM] [P]+[K] sabaki.

    [JM] [6]+[K]
Basically this is a close as Kage will get to having a 'conventional' knee. You can hold the [K] to exit [JM] stance and from then on you have tons of combo options.
    You can do [JM] [6]+[K](hold [K] - [P] - [2]+[P]+[K] - [7]+[K]+[G] for example.
It is also good at beating rising kicks. When your opponnent is lying in a positiong that does not allow for a [JM] [P]+[K]+[G] reversal you can got into [JM] to bait them and then try to beat the rising kick for a float.

    [4][4]+[K]+[G] - [8]+[P]
Easier to struggle out fo the stomp if you do not time it correctly.

    [BT] [P]+[K]+[G]
Not that useful really. Can be good after [JM] [2]/[8] roll, but that's about it. Sometimes it's worth doing the move and just blcoking cos people panic and try to attack you with a big attack. It's a trick move, but not as good as some trick moves like Shun's repetoire...

    [1]+[P]+[K]
Remeber you can reverse Akira and Jacky's [6]+[P] now. They are moves that will stagger crouchers, but they are no longer elbows!

    [K]+[G][P][P]
This move is slow at around 17/18fr execution. You should do it from range and not really in close combat. Contrary to earlier reports it is possible to [2]+[P] counter both [P] follow-ups. However if you delay the last [P] and someone tries to counter they will be MC staggered. After the MC stagger nothing is guaranted. You can 'combo' with [K]+[G][P][P] if your opponent is a slow struggler. If you dash forward you lose the intiative. Best option is to cd and force nikatu guessing game.

    [6]+[P]+[G] - [3]+[K]
    You can [3]+[K] Aoi's back-reversal whiff for a back crumple and guaranteed [9]+[K]+[G] - [2]+[P] - [4]+[P][K] combo.

that's all I can remeber fro the mo...

    cheers

    [2_][6]+[K] - [1]+[P][K][G] - [P] - [6]+[K]+[G] - [6][6][3]+[K]

    Lion & Lei-Fei
    [2_][6]+[K] - [4]+[P] - [P] - [6]+[K]+[G] - [6][6][3]+[K]
    (Note: On Lion you can also do; [P] - [4]+[P] - [6]+[K]+[G]...)

    Sarah
    [2_][6]+[K] - [4]+[P] - [6]+[K]+[G] - [6][6][3]+[K]

    Vs Sarah and Shun
    [2_][6]+[K] - [6]+[P]+[K][P]+[K] - [7]+[K]+[G]

    Vs Everyone?
    [2_][6]+[K] - [4]+[P][K] - [3_]+[K]

    Additional Notes:

    [2_][3]+[P]:
15fr execution. Does not mC float a 'slow' dodge, you just get a normal hit (+2 advantage).

    [4][4]+[K]+[G]:
Can no longer be interupted by high moves like jabs.

Oh, forgot against Goh and Brad stick to the Jacky class TFT combo.

Also the last combo ends with a sidekick (hold [3_] not [3]) intsead of what looks like the heel swat.
