VF5 AI

In a number of VF5 reviews and comments I've heard that the AI opponents are lackluster. A lot of people seemed to praise VF4 (esp. Evo's) AI. Did the series take a step backwards, or have things changed and expectations increased for fighting game AI? Is VF5 on par with 4's AI? I haven't played either game, but planning on picking them up at some point (wish Sega would just let us know yay or nay on VF5R potentially coming to consoles).

I know at the end of the day, it's all about human vs. human fighting but was just curious.

VF5's AI comes nowhere near VF4 or VF4:Evo's AI. I hope for VF5R when they release it to console, they bring back the AI of VF4:Evo.

I honestly can't remember evo's "magnificent"I, but if you want good stuff to develop your skills with, just make situations in accordance to top players vids from youtube in the dojo mode. Then, after you gain some skills and knowledge, kill your friends who like to think they are good at video games.

Balls to A.I. in fighting games.

There have been many threads talking about the VF5 AI in the past.

The PS3 AI is very simplistic. Some AI characters won't even use new moves or stances. At all.

The 360 AI is a dramatic improvement and, IMO, on par with PS2 Evo AI. There are a wide variety of fighting styles simulated which force you to adapt as you would against a human. Compared to the PS2 AI where all high level AI players pretty much played the same.

Also one thing that I have noticed when I have played quest continuously to unlock items, I think that if you play continuously the CPU adapts to your playstyle. It gets noticeably harder as time goes on. Also 360 VF5 AI has indeed different types of characters, there are some highlvl charas who favor certain moves or flowcharts and so on. PS3 VF5 AI was really really bad, except for Eileen and Blaze because those character AIs had to be made from scratch I guess.

Hmm, I only have a PS3 so I'd be stuck with that version, but that dojo advice sounds like a great way to learn the game. I guess it's still better to pick up 5 over 4E - despite the AI issues - because I assume it's better to pick up the newest iteration...unless there's anyone here who recommends 4 as a better game?

Get 4E for its training mode. It;s far better than 5's Dojo.

PS3 VF5 ai is poor but the XBOX one is actually pretty good. Alot of varitation and quite honestly, when playing on expert, far more challenging that about 90% of the people you find online.

What makes the training mode in 4E better than 5's dojo?

Being able to record moves for the CPU to perform is the most significant thing that made the VF4:Evo training mode better IMO.

Well, since I'm a total noob to the VF series, it sounds like 4 evo would be the best way to at least learn the game - unless I had human opponents to play against in 5 on a regular basis (or if I bought a 360). Here's hoping 5R comes to PS3 with all the improvements (AI, etc).

i bought 360 just for vf5, and dont regret it. only madden has had this kinda staying power for me in the past. basically heres a good test. if u have a friend who is less into games than u, and is hooked on vf5 get xbox 360. expert will give u better games than most opponents, but cpu opps dont make u look forward to getting better and WANT to practice n the dojo. plus, cpu wont jump on vfdc and gg you. if ur pretty sure u could seriously get down on some vf5 online 360 is a good investment. try evo, see what u think in cheaply.

I loved VFevo and it taught me a lot of my foundations even if I didn't fully understand them at the time. But however I really like the addition of OM now that I finally understand how it is used. It changes the game ever so slightly.

I'd be trying to OM all over the place and miss my eileen if I went back to vf4 again.

That said Evo is still a great investment if someone missed it.

The average CPU character fights harder than most humans but doesn't have a unique style to them that makes them stand out much even though the characters on the 360 have some uniqueness to them but not as much as a real human player though.

If R was anything like VF4 evo AI wise it will be a major plus to the game and having a training mode that actually teaches you how to play the game would make it even better too.

If you don't get VF4 evo for any other reason get it for the training mode at least, many of the combos used in evo still work in VF5 as well.

    just EVO's, not VF4.

even the "high kings" in VF4 kumite mode used the same strings over and over. And some of them are very punishable.

    it just me or...

My VF5 is asia version. When I changed the console language to japanese because I want to hear VF commentary in Japanese, I play arcade mode with very hard difficulty. I just felt, this asia-japanese AI tougher than asia-english AI. Is that true?

This is what I've noticed since I'm stuck with the PS3 AI at home but have tried the 360 AI on expert. The difference was far greater than I was expecting, there seems to be more variation between AI's compared to what I can remember of Evo's. The PS3 AI on the other hand is very samey at similar ranks and just gives me bad habits even when I'm trying to avoid them. It barely ever uses exact recovery, never uses wakeups or spacing and only uses a few simple variations in it's tactics.

When I play someone whose unconventional or has good movement, fuzzy guarding and wakeups it's all of a sudden a big struggle.

VF4 AI was extremely bad. Much worse than in PS3 VF5.

I felt that while playing a rl friend today /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif (PS3 version btw)

The dojo suggestion was interesting, but I don't really know how to set up the stuff very well there. :|
