I've been playing VF with a controller for years now. So after reading up on some things and playing on the 360 with that D-Pad I decided to go ahead and hunt down the Hori stick for the game. It was 40 bucks at a local Gamestop.

My question is, if you're used to the the controller (which I am), how long did it take you to feel comfortable with the arcade stick? I felt like I'm playing a different game now with the stick. I was spoiled with the triggers and bumpers being multiple button presses. Now I'm back to the basics really.

I'm questioning if I'll eventually reap the benefits of this purchase.

I play all my fighting games with sticks, but I still got some advice for you, if you want it.

The standard layout for playing VF on an arcade stick is:

    PK-
    G--

If you want to get used to the stick faster, in addition to playing VF with it, just play every other game with it too. Like I guess for example, play your xbox live arcade games with the stick too.

The buttons threw me off a bit. I was used to pressing Y on the 360 controller to punch. Now it's all switched up. Now I kick where I'm used to guarding. It's weird.

I'd always used a pad before now, I got a stick for VF5 on 360. I noticed straight away that my inputs were faster and that certain moves were actually possible for me on stick ( KNEE, haha ).

Quarter/half/full circle motions were a struggle though and it took a while to be able to hit the diagonal directions properly. This is probably cause the EX2 is shit though /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

I'd say it took around a few weeks, no more than a month.

Yeah, I noticed that also. I entered the Dojo with some characters and I couldn't do some of those moves that included a diagonal input nearly as easy as I thought it would be.

Oh It's Killa Kenny. When you get better with the stick maybe you won't disconnect and run away every time I join your match.

I've never played you before. And I've never played ANYBODY online with this stick yet. I just got it today.

I know we've never played, which makes your pulling all the weirder.

The default button layout in VF5 for the EX2 stick is completely silly. Feel free to change the button layout in setup.

Haha, just remembered that he's done it to me before. I recognised his tag from here so I joined his match and he pulled while we was in the lobby.

Pretty weird to say i've never played him before.

I wish I knew this before I started getting into the stick. Now I'm half way decent with it on default. I think I'll just keep it like it is since I'm getting fairly used to it now.

One thing I've noticed while playing with the stick is that ground evading and rolling becomes much more responsive. I got a work on sidestepping with it better now though.

I was wondering if it was THE killaken, who is infamous for pulling. I thought maybe not b/c he says rank 6th Dan, and THE killaken (who has pulled on me mutliple times but we've never played) is a " quotations marks " MASTER " quotation marks "

Yeah, he pulled on me and explained by saying he was "trying to get his feet wet in VF." By this point he had played over 6000 ranked matches. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Yep add me to this list too, i just got the EX2 stick today and i have been testing VF5 and SF2 Arcade and i have been struggling with the circular motions too.

Apparently when doing /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif i'm not moving the stick upwards enough for the stick to register the last /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif motion. But i think its just a thing of getting used to it.

However, first thing i notice right off the bat is that the consistency and speed of some basic moves like /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif is way better with the stick, so i don't think ill be going back to the pad anytime soon.
