VF5..is it really worth it?

I've been playing the Virtua Fighter series for quite awhile now, since 1996 to be exact. I know how great the game is and trust me its the only fighting game that I would actually play but recently I asked myself the question, is the newest installment really worth it? That would be an easy question if it wasnt for the Ps3 which I have no intrest in buying. 700 bucks to play one game yikes sounds pretty steep. Any hardcore vfer's in here honestly believe that every cent will be worth it? When the game hits hopefully thier will be pently of gatherings here in the USA to make it so

Yes it is, IMO. I'm not as hardcore as a lot of guys here though I have been a VF fan from day one. I'm not a VF5 player yet (it hasn't arrived in my neck of the woods, nor will it ever outside the PS3 game), but the videos I've seen all year have convinced me- this game is the best fighter there is right now (even though I am a Tekken/DOA/Soul Calibur fan as well) and it is a must for any fighting game fan.

In any case, in a couple of months when this is available, the PS3 prices should have gone down a bit.

$700 is still a killer, but as the time comes and I can't stand the wait for this game, I'll eventually fork out the money for this thing.

At the very least I can see other smaller reasons to get this system like mgs4 and the token FF (hey they are fun). What I'm really worried about though is weither my current arcade sticks (built from 3rd party psx) will work through conversion to the ps3.

Right now though, I'm more dying on the inside from the wait. I'll gladly part with $700 to have this game now. /versus/images/graemlins/lol.gif

$700, that's what, PS3+VF5... Count in the stick and a HD ready TV if you don't have one. /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif

As for forking out that kind of money for one game, I wouldn't do it. Aren't there any games you'd like to play on the PS3 Denkai? For instance I'm not all that psyched about the PS3 itself, but since PC gaming is going down the drain for me, I'd rather get a console - I don't play that many games, so I'd probably get like 5 a year. Still, IMO that's better than buying a new PC video card every year... And the CPU... And some more memory.

Try finding more good sides (excuses) to get a PS3 and you're all good. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Of course. But that's the price in the US.

Where I live the minimum spent fpr a PS3 and VF5 is closer to $815.

Argg I know, this console is looking more of a pain than ever. I just wish my old arcade sticks will work through conversion.

Anyhow, I'm putting aside $50 out of my paycheck till it's release so I can safe up enough money.

I've been playing VF2 since the Sega Saturn only casually up until VF4 and Evo that I play to this day consistently...and I know I'm going to end up blowing the money on a PS3 and VF5. As GLC said PC games are shitting the bed and even then the cost of a gaming PC equivalent to the PS3 is insane anyways....and also if Blu-Ray really takes off the PS3 is a cheap Blu-Ray disc player, I saw a stand alone Blu-Ray machine at a Best Buy in Syracuse that was nearly $2,000.

The only thing I'm worried about for the console version of VF5 is arcade sticks. Is there any word on a VF5 stick from Sega? Or Hori putting out some PS3 sticks? I'd not be thrilled if there isn't a joystick readily available upon VF5's launch...

You can preorder the Sega stick - http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-zl-49-en-70-1rjw.html

Hori is also releasing the PS3 version of its FT2 stick, named FT3 (surprise, surprise) - http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-zl-49-en-70-1o24.html

There, now you can either buy a new stick (from the links posted by GLC), or use your old ones...
