Lau deserves his own thread soI translated Lau section of the VF5Memo website. I couldn't comment on most of the moves because I didn't see enough Lau videos yet.

He seems to have interesting new options and I hope his new play style is as scary as his new look /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

    New Moves:

    [1][P] High
    [1][P][P] High
    [1][P][P][P] Middle
    [1][P][P][2][P] Low? Low P?
    [1][P][K] High
    [1][P][K][K] High

    [6][4][P] High?
    [6][4][P][P] High?
    [6][4][P][P][P] Middle?

    While standing [K] Middle
Linear? Opponent falls on his butt on normal hit

    [6][6][K] Middle
Similar to Shun’s [6][6][K] Move. Can start a combo.

    [8][K] Middle
Small jump kick, can start a combo on a counter
    [8][K][K] Middle
Follow-up to [8][K] , when hit, opponent falls on his butt. Can be delayed

    [4][P]+[K][P] High

    [4][6][P]+[K] Middle? Punch?
High P and High K? sabaki. Crumbles on counter or successful sabaki.
Finally a sabaki for Lau! Good news!

    [6][P]+[K]+[G] Guard break?

    [6][P]+[G] New throw
A knee to the gut. Former [6][P]+[G] throw is now [3][P]+[G]
    [6][P]+[G][8]or[2] Knee to the side

    Changes to existing moves

    [P][K] Motion change

[3][3][P] Doesn’t float on counter hit anymore
Damn! That was one of my favourite moves!

    [4][P] and [4][P][K] got removed

    [K][K] Motion change

    [1][K][K] Motion change. 2nd K knocks down

While standing [K] got replaced by a new move

    [6][2][K] changed to [2][K]+[G]

[8][K] got replaced by a new move

[3][P]+[K] got removed. This command is now for Final Tuned’s [3][3][P]+[K] move

    [3][3][P]+[K] changed to [3][P]+[K]
Basically the old palm upper got changed back to it’s former command.

    [4][P]+[K][P] changed to [4][P]+[K][P]+[K]

[2][K]+[G] got removed, it is now for Final Tuned’s [6][2][K] move

[4][K]+[G] got worse. On counter? Turns opponent sideways

Tiger stance [P][P] First hit staggers. 2nd hit floats

    [6][P]+[G] throw changed to [3][P]+[G]

Thanks for this!! One suggestion, change references of "medium" to "middle?"

Lau seems to be more focused as a poking character. He's lost his full-circular sweep, which was a deadly move for a character like Lau, but his poking attacks (punch strings, jump kicks, butt staggers) seem strengthened. Sadly for me personally he seems more boring to play now than before.

    Edited, thanks for the tip.

Too bad he lost his full circular sweep...
There aren't many videos of him which is strange, after all he's one of the popular characters in Japan...

    Choose you poison:
    [1][P][P][6][P] Mid
    [1][P][P][2][P] Low

Lau's while standing [K] now hits opp off the ground due to its low hit detection.

Now [4][P]+[K] shares the same follow up chains with [2_][3][P].

Am I reading it wrong?!?! The [2_][3][P] and [4][P]+[K] floats on small counter /versus/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Yes, that means there will be more "Tranz" to do float combo!

Linear attacks are weakened in exchanged for no guarantee counter attack for blocking Lau's moves.

With plenty of throws, guard breaking moves, Lau's "Best defense is offense"!

The last part applies to his while standing [K]. It's no longer half circular, and like you said, it's now uncounterable and causes stagger.

It looks like the [4][6][P], [P][4][P][P] combo works in both open and closed stance now. [2][P], [2_][3][P] [P]+[K] combo doesn't seem to hit anymore.

Do you know if you can still switch to tiger stance after [4][P]+[K] ?

How awesome is [4][P]+[K] in VF5? It's like a slow version of Lau's VF2 upknife all over again!

you can not go into tiger stance anymore after [4][P]+[K].

Don't fear though, it is now one of Lau's most powerful weapons.

You can still do this special high followup from evo/FT, but you have also have to option of doing Lau's upknife followups. Lau has gotten a huge boost in terms of strength from this change.

    2. [4][6][P] or [8][P] or [2_][4][6][P] [P][P][P][K]
    3. [2_][4][6][P] [2_][3][P][P][4][P][P]

    6. [3][P]+[K] [P] [2][P]+[K] [P][4][P][P]
    7. Counter hit [6][P]+[K] or Sabaki [4][6][P]+[K] [2_][3][P][P]+[K] [P][4][P][P]
    8. Counter hit [6][P]+[K] or Sabaki [4][6][P]+[K] [2_][3][P][P][4][P][P]
    9. Sabaki [4][6][P]+[K] [2][P]+[K] [P][4][P][P]
    10. [2_][3][P][P] or [4][P]+[K][P] [2_][3][P][P][4][P][P]
    11. [2_][3][P][P][P][K] [2][P]+[K] [P][4][P][P]
    12. Wall in front [3][P]+[G] [P][P][P][K]
    13. Any side crumple [2_][3][P][P][4][P][P]
    14. Any side crumple [2][P]+[K] [2_][3][P][P][4][P][P]

Combo 1 is the basic slam down combo, and works on all characters. Combo 2 does more damage than [P][4][P][P], and the spinning knockdown means you can go for a small down attack. In open stance for [8][P] and in closed stance for [4][6][P] it will work on Wolf and Jeffrey. Against Wolf when the [8][P] connects, input the [P] with joystick neutral. Input all as fast as possible and it will be fine. Against Akira in open stance it will work after [2_][4][6][P]. Combo 3 will work up to Jacky in either foot stance, and in open stance it does more damage.
Combo 4 will work on characters up to Jacky, and against Akira in closed stance if you omit the [P] it will work. Against other characters 5 is guaranteed. Combo 6 is good at carrying the opponent, and the damage is good, working on Pai, Brad, Lion, and in closed stance Sarah and Vanessa. Combo 7 bascially works in both foot stances for high damage, after the [6][P]+[K] on light weights and Lion, Blaze and Shun. After a successful sabaki it will work on light weights and Lion. Combo 8 and 9 are for the other characters.
Combo 10 is Lau's signature combo, use it when the first move launches. You can go straight to the string, or confirm a counter hit and change. Against heavy characters go for [P][4][P][P]
Combo 11 uses the wall, and will work after [2_][3][P] [3][P] or [3][3][P]. If the last [P] of [P][P][P] hits them onto the wall, the string will splat them. As they are falling, you can use [2][P]+[K]to relaunch them and follow up from there. Depending on the angle, you can use the wall again and get [P][P][P][K].
Combo 13 and 14 are side stun crumple combos. Combo 13 works on all characters. Combo 14 works when Lau is at the opponent's stomach side, against light weights, and is the best damage. Conversely, if you launch them from behind as often happens, the combos won't connect.

One quick addition: in the Arcadia VF5 section, there's a picture of Lau's [8][K] avoiding Kage's elbow!

In Japan, I got hit w/ Lau's Break Guard, followed by /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif, where the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif floats.

I'm not the best struggler in the world, so I'm sure this can be avoided, but it really sucked! The animation for this Break Guard is really fast.

Cool -- it sounds that /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif would work even better than /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif at the very least.

I never played VF2, but it is like VF3 Lau's upknife and that is friggin' sweet! This is my first day with VF5 and so far I am liking the Lau changes, even though they aren't so drastic.

I never played FT, so these new Tiger stance moves will take a while to get used to as well, but that's why we practice.

    You mean /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif > /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif? Nope.
