A sidestep? Are you stupid? 2D fighters and 3D fighters differ in more ways then graphical dimensions, they're different genres. Saying that SFIV needs a sidestep is like saying a new Mega Man needs to be in first person perspective to "get with the times".

(Yes, I know there have been 2D fighters with sidesteps)

2. Then SF4 should have stayed 2_D shouldnt, it. Um yeah MK was originally a 2D fighter wasn't it, I love how ignorance rubs vaseline over people's lenses. For the record, no I'm not stupid, thanks for disagreeing without being an arrogant dick or an asshole.

I have a problem with some of your statements. Any talented developer could make a game work. Look at Metroid, a more complex game then MM, a Retro Studios STILL manage to pull the Metroid experience in FPS. It comes down to the developer.
But, at the same time, I could see what you mean with "get with the times"comment.

SFIV, is 2D. If you mean hand drawn, YES. Because by your definition of 2D, KOF XII is a 3D fighter then. Because, all those beautiful screen shots you see and BETA videos on Youtube, happen to be traced over 3D models. Is similar to roloscoping. 2D fighters is about the environment there in, not the tools they use.

Ive played SFIV extensively over the past couple months. It's not dumbed down, it's more complex than 3s. All the high damage combos take a lot of skill to pull off for the most part. The focus attack system is pretty deep and much more involved than parries. There is no need for a side step when you have the focus attack.

Only on the surface. SFIV proves that the real reason ppl didnt play 3s for so long is because of the cast of characters was not familiar. Combos are harder in SFIV, you cant parry your way out of death, focus attack has an infinite amount of uses, you actually have to zone hardcore in SFIV... so really, you take that into account and see the real reason people are coming back is because the cast of character in IV is familiar to them.

You bring up sf2 and sf3 as the top sf classics, but you don't include at least alpha 2 or 3?
