VF5FS - Kinect - Would it work?

Before you get the wrong impression, I am not saying that VF5FS should be played with Kinect, but VF5FS should have Kinect features.

Think about it... The one thing missing from the Kinect lineup is a "hardcore" game. If VF5FS would add Kinect features then it could drive sales and get more people into the game. Heck, even the name Virtua would make the casuals think of a Virtual Fighting game.

Here are my ideas on how it could work:
    * Menu Navigation: The player will have the ability to use hand movements and voice control to tell the game where to go.
    * Video Camera Chat: Add lobbies where you can see the other players via the video camera. Perhaps you can even have a small window under the life bar so you can see each other as you play.
    * If you need to add play control for the casuals then have an option for first person control like VF3TB.

    Just an idea,
    -Brian

Brisal did you purchase Kinect? If you did, what's your opinion of the peripheral? I'm seriously thinking about picking this up today. I REALLY want to play Dance Central. It' looks like tons of fun and I bet I'd play it all weekend. I think it would make a great party game when I have friends over.

The only thing keeping me from doing it is the 8-10 feet of space required for the camera to work perfectly. I've read articles of people getting things to work out in 6-8 feet of space, but I'd rather get the opinion of someone that I know and trust.

For me to get 8-10 of space I'd have to do a serious remodeling job on my small 1 bedroom apartment.

Not sure but this article might help Rod http://kotaku.com/5680506/configuring-a-room-for-kinect-a-tale-of-two-houses

I'm also interested in Dance Central, game looks tons of fun even if I did have to down a few drinks to get involved [IMG]

Thanks for the article feck. I read that one this morning! It did help and when I get home today I'm gonna pull out the old measuring tapes and see just how much space I have to work with.

I still would prefer some feedback from any trust VFDC member who picked it up.

And yeah, Dance Central is definitely gonna be used as the official " ok we are drunk... let's look real foolish " game!

Please let me know what you think of it when you get a chance. I'll hold off till Friday / Saturday before purchasing.

If you could provide info and the amount of space your working with or able to test that would be awesome.

    Thanks!

Ok I got home and played a bit. Now keep in mind that I am a huge gadget type guy and I tend to get the latest gadget as long as it won't break my bank. Example... I have a Google TV

    Anyways, I like it.

The setup process was very easy. It picked up my face and it is now connected to my gamertag so it will sign me in automatically. The motorized sensor is AWESOME. Example... If I enter Kinect chat it finds me and if I move it follows me.

The games so far are just ok (Dance Central being the best). If you know going into it that you are buying something for the casual gamer then you will be ok with it. I will still play my main games, but the games here are a nice diversion.

    Technology wise it is awesome.
I live in a one bedroom apartment and probably have 8ft between my TV and my spot on the sofa. Play area I have 6ft - 7ft, again no problem the games played fine. You might need more room for 2 players, but I would have no problem moving my sofa back if I need to. I do that for Rock Band and VF parties anyways.

I have a 65in DLP TV in my living room. The lighting is pretty dark and it was able to pick me up just fine (standing or sitting). I first put the sensor near the bottom of the TV and it had a hard time seeing me while I was sitting. Game wise it was fine. Once I put it on top of the tv, the sensor picked up everything.

I find it to be a HUGE game changer (no pun intended). It is kind of trippy when you first try this out, but to me I like it much better than the Wii and you can sense that there is great potential in the Kinect. Now let's see what happens when the real hardcore games come out.

Im extremely prejudiced about this, I suspect there to be lot of input lag. However I will propably get a chance to test at an exhibition sometime this weekend.

sure man you can check it out if I get it this weekend. I'll keep you posted. A friend of mines picked it up, so I'm gonna head over to his place either tonight or tomorrow and check it out for myself. If I like it I'll definitely pick it up and give you a call. But no recording ok lmao

I feel myself straying away from hardcore gaming these days. I just have no desire to play anything hardcore! maybe I'm getting old or maybe it's Sega killing my fire since they won't release the new VF.

Anyway Kinect Dance Central seems right up my alley at the moment. It's a game and I love games, it looks like fun and believe it or not I really enjoy dancing. I actually used to be very much into dancing during my prehistoric high school days and early / mid twenties!

Brisal, Thanks for the write up. It's greatly appreciated. My major concern was play space. I measured last night and I only have about 6 feet of space to work with and that's seriously being generous. It's probably more like 5.5 to make sure I don't back up and hit my sofa every time I have to do some killer spin move or something.

A friend of mines picked it up so I'm gonna head over to his place and check it out either tonight or tomorrow. If I like it I will definitely pick it up over the weekend.

I too have moved away from hardcore gaming and it has more to do with time restraints than anything else. I have too many real world things to do, I can't devote 12 hours a week to playing one game anymore.

I'm all about games that I can play for a long time, but can pick up and put down without feeling like I'm not really playing the game.

So far the only game for Kinect I'd want is Dance Central (I love dancing), but I'm not willing to shell those bucks out for just one game. So far the lineup is very lackluster.

To answer the thread subject question. No it's completely unnecessary in my opinion. The idea of having to lift my hands off or put down my pad or arcade stick to select stuff in menu's and then pick it up again to actually play the matches doesn't appeal to me at all.

In terms of the matches thenselves, i don't think kinect is responsive to really do VF commands. It'd be offline lag, which no one wants. It would be better to create a completely new IP that doesn't need things to be as responsive for Kinect.

I do have a bias against motion controls and anything that sounds like it would require additional effort in general though. [IMG]

My game ratings. Based on my gaming experience overall. Example Vf5 = 4

    Dance Central = 3
The game is very fun but it needs more polish. The interface is somewhat lacking.

    Kinect Adventures = 2
It is a fun glorified demo disk

    Kinect Sports = 3
Loved this game.Every sport is fun to play

I used to run into that problem with the eyetoy. I used a straight white background or else the camera had no idea where I was.

I believe if VF5FS have Kinect features, then it will give more attractive points to new players.

I meant to try it at a recent exhibition but I couldn't be bothered. Also, if I can visually SEE the input lag by watching other people play a kinect game then its obviously too much for any practical purpose. Not to mention there aren't any kinect games that I could possibly be interested of currently.

PS move is apparently sharper, therefore theres more chance of me trying it. Move is also cheaper by over half.
