    So. I went and played a couple of hours with Shun. I have saved a couple of videos to my phone from the mobile vf.net but I unfortunately do not know how to send those to PC so I can upload to youtube. If anyone does know, please let me know and I'll put them up ASAP.

    General impressions:

    System changes benefit Shun overall. While split was not a huge problem for Shun as he has mule kick, his extensive collection of long-reach moves is a huge benefit with the way that hits on backdashing opponents work (if the damage is high enough, the move causes the opponent to be "shocked" in place, not unlike the wall hits in R). Also, you can delay a few of Shun's moves within chain combos much longer than previously, which is a huge benefit now that evade has been slowed down slightly. In addition to this, he has been give several moves that can be hit checked, such as a new 43P+K --> P, the second hit of which knocks down. These should prove useful for catching evaders, which have been a bane to Shun since, well, forever.

    Notes on move changes/new moves:

    Throws (*denotes command as of R)

    *P+G-->Unchanged

    *4P+G-->Unchanged

    *6P+G-->Removed?

    *46P+G-->Unchanged, though you do not lose 3 drinks for using this anymore. Consequentially, it can be used at any time.

    *3P+G-->6P+G

    *33P+G-->66P+G

    *43P+G-->41236P+G

    *2684P+G-->63214P+G

    Normal attacks:

    PP4P --> The 4P here does Shun's normal 4P (half circular). With 4 DP or more, you can add a fourth P. This combo hits in full against Taka when P is guaranteed.

    4P+K --> This no longer does a sabaki attack, but rather a hit throw with very long reach. It can be used with 0 DP, and adds 3 DP on hit. The damage (verified through video) is 60 on regular hit, 64 on counter.

    P+K --> No longer does the quick mid that could be followed with a K. Now does the 4P part of Shun's old PP4P (moving into stance). This looks interesting but puts you at disadvantage on hit and may prove hard to use.

    1K+G --> Now does a low move that crumbles on counter hit. Behaves like Sarah's 2K+G.

    6P+K --> Now gives you 5 (!) DP, which are added fast enough that you can follow with a down attack/combo moves afterward.

    3KP --> The P crumples on counter hit, like the original 5.

    6P+K+G --> Is now like 6PP+K+G from R. You now have the option to hit PKG to lay down, P to do the normal hit from R, K to do the evade kick, and P+K to do a new move where Shun spits the alcohol he just drank into the opponent's face (!). This new move breaks guard and is probably around +5. It does zero damage by itself.

    1or7P+K+GP+K --> This move now crumbles on hit (!!) The combos out of this are honestly overpowered; you can do 6K+G to refloat, followed by a variety of chain combos to easily do 75+ damage. Given how shit Shun is in R I will be happy to have this, but it will be interesting to see if this survives the location test.

    *****

    I have a lot more than this in my head but I think this is probably the most I can recall with any accuracy now. Will try to add movies soon so you can see what I'm talking about... Peace~

    After you said this line. I kinda disregard some of you complaints about sidesteps killing shun and other things.

    Sound even more dangerous given his unnatural reach. I have to see him in action in FS to gauge certain things. The new animations in R for 2p stuffs his his bullshit a little better. He well be buffed back up to be user-friendly and accessible.

    I'm not sure I get this part. I have seen the "tier list" posted here and elsewhere, but Shun is widely acknowledged as the worst character in R. Some people I have talked to (Homestay, etc.) call him not only the worst character in R, but the worst character in any fighting game they have ever played. His only answers to 2P are an elbow that puts you at disadvantage even on counter hit, a move that, if evaded eats elbow (K+G), or a move that, if evaded, puts him at -20+ (i.e. free yoho/short shoulder). So he basically has no way to fight from short range.

    On top of this he has virtually no way to make advantage of the wall damage that makes so many characters absolutely beast.

    Despite any videos you see, when playing for fun (i.e. not in tournaments), a very large amount of the "Shun" players (Itazan, Kissa, etc.) do not even use him anymore.

    Lots of unwarranted Shun hate here. Preach on Sekaijin! I look forward to vids!

    No hate TWP That whats your assuming. R was just a protoype and im quite sure he WILL rise in tier again.

    I'm sorry but if Shun is as bad as you claim him to be in R why do you say that the "Shun" players don't play him for fun but that they do play him in tournaments?

    Because tournaments are team affairs, and in most cases you cannot have the same character represented twice on the same team. So you bring the beast characters out (in R, this means Akira/Wolf), and then a guy who just happens to be very very good overall and can still hack it with the niche characters.

    Brad is considered on the same level as Shun in R (i.e. flaming dogshit), and Itoshun still has around 85% wins. Can you just look at one guy and conclude that the character is strong/weak? I get the impression from this thread that some people think so.

    So what you saying is that Itoshun is the reason that HE has 85% it don't make sense. Regardless of what you say Shun is still fierce and so is Brad. in fact im going back to look at Shun's videos because i refuse to believe he garbage if all the did was add more shit to him.

    Need i say more? And he's a shitty character?

    Wow, nice video from THE FIRST WEEK THE GAME WAS IN THE ARCADE, where the opponent didn't even know his move list, and SHU didn't know what would work on Taka.

    And once again, you have absolutely no answers for anything that matters (move properties, frames, system info), you just paste a video and THERE?

    Am I talking to children?

    Seriously, this is why I stopped posting to this site.

    Thanks for the info sekaijin. Western vf players don't have an abundance of easy to find resources for hot stuff like location test info...it's awesome that you took the time to post your impressions.

    Sekajin don't mind these guys we've got nothing but theory fighter half the time and random videos. More impressions are appreciated.

    thanks for the info Dave

    btw when you're talking about the last anti- low P move (-20+ on evade) you mean mule kick, right? now that you've pointed out why he's weak, I can believe it (+ no chouwan til 6 drinks, right?)

    I think for us that have only watched vids and never played R, things that look crazy & strong stand out more than problems that arise when you're actually forced to play

    shun's only anti-2P move (or vs. low attacks overall) right now is 6K+G (where he throws one leg over his head), because mule kick no longer beats lows on properties (but will win on frames if you are not at too high a disadvantage). whereas mule kick used to almost universally beat lows, it now is only useful if you are at -2 or less to beat 2P, in which case you have a lot of better options than something like mule kick that is guaranteed punch on block.

    not only is 6K+G very risky, but the combos after it are limited to 43P+K or pounce, which takes a lot of the fun out of playing shun, as before you had many combos out of mule kick that were stance/character/DP-specific and could be used to position within the ring as well.

    Not bad, but Shun needs as many drinking opportunities as he can get. I still got hope for the old fool though. Thanks GT.

    My reason for bashing Tekken is pure disappointment of the current game.

    That's something I'd like to hear about in another topic if anyone knows more. Most of the changes initially seemed like improvements but something else must have gone wrong with Brad for him to fall to the bottom.
