VF5R Item Capsules

It seems with the new item system in VF5 you collect balls to purchase item capulses.

    - There are 3 kinds of balls. Small, medium, and large.

    - You need 100 of one type of ball to purchase an item capsule. Obviously, small balls go with a small package, while large balls come with a large package. (heh heh sorry, couldnt resist) Seriously, 100 small balls net you a normal item, medium balls net you a rare item, and large balls net you a very rare item.

    - If you use the VF Terminal it only costs 90 balls to purchase an item capsule. Bastards want you to waste your yen for virtual items!!!

    - It appears you can convert your balls. 20small balls for one medium, and 20 medium balls for one large. Doesnt seem to be worth it.

    - Once you purchase the item capsule you have to play one match before the capsule will hatch and you get your item. Yet again, sega forcing you to spend even more $$$ to get your items.

    - Small balls are rather plentiful (you can win 25 in a treasure chest from a fight.) Medium balls are rarer (you can win a few from a fight or from beating teams in the 1player mode).

    - How the hell do you win a large ball? In all my VF5R career Ive never once seen any big balls!?!

Maybe it is only possible to get large balls by converting 20 medium balls? That makes it really tough to get the super rare items but they have to be uber cool in return.

So does this make everything relatively quicker or slower to unlock items?

    ^ Good question.

I thought the new item system, was gonna make unlocking things easier. Now it sounds kinda complicated.

Do you get anything for sticking the balls in your mouth?

There is one thing Namflow forgot to mention in his post. These item capsules replace the items that you would have gotten in the Treasure Battles. So instead of getting an item from one of those battles, you get those glowing balls instead. The frequency of treasure battles has gone up significantly IMO so you have the potential to get items faster, so yes, it makes it a bit faster to get stuff. It's also worth mentioning that if you lose a treasure battle you can still get balls for it. You only get 25 balls per win, but the loser gets 5 as well.

Base items are still purchased with gold though, so now everything is split up into two parts. It sucks though, because to get color variations you have to use balls to purchase them, not money. IMO it's ass backwards because to purchase color variations you have to spend 50 small balls just to get them. That's half the cost of an item right there! I would've rather they used gold for color variations, but oh well.

Alright, so I'm a little new to the VF card system in Japan. I got a card for VF5 a while ago, and once I fulled up my first "chip" with 7 orbs, I couldnt figure out how to buy a new one. So I signed up for a VF.net account, but never got enough Gold to get an item. (I dont play that often). Anyway, I got to VF5R now and all my items that I won before are gone, I have no "chip" either.

How do I use the balls to get items?

This may be a dumb question as I have not been to a VF Terminal since playing VF5R (My arcade has a VF machine, but no terminal).

I know with VF5 ver. C at least, that you couldnt buy items from a terminal. Has that changed?

Excuse my ignorance, but my Japanese sucks.

I guess I like the sound of the new system so far, but I'll have to just wait and see for myself I suppose...

Also, I hope that on the console version they'll just add a color edit, like in SC IV...So that you can change the colors to whatever you like, no hassle...Rather than going through all the trouble of getting gold/orbs/whatever, just to get a different colored version of a shirt you already have...I doubt they'll do it, but still...

Thanks for explaining those little balls (look like rocks to me :p) I see people getting in youtube clips.

So when you've collected enough balls to buy a capsule -- do you know what's in the capsule? i.e. do you get to choose from a selection of small capsules knowing what they are going to hatch into, or is it just a single choice with a unknown item in it?

It's unknown... you just choose the capsule and you get a random item.

It sounds like its harder to collect all the items or the one particular item that you want with this system.

Thanks Reno -- So, what do you VF5R players think of the new system? Does the lack of true Item Battles take away some of the tension and suspense when you see the chest?

Oh, Reno... on a side note, when will I get to see more Taka craziness in your thread in the VF.TV forum /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif
