So if vf5R comes out without online, are you getting it? I have to say i would not buy it without online. I wouldn't.

Not fussed either way but i'd enjoy it without online same as I did with PS3 VF5 and all the older games, probably enjoy it more if it didn't have online anyways... No lag to blame everything on /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

I will never buy a fighting game without online MP again.

For someone like me who hates the tourney scene, and has work commitments, but loves the game- MP is a necessity.

I'd enjoy MK vs a player more then I'd enjoy VF vs an AI.

MP VF is the sole reason I got a 360 instead of a PS3, so I have strong opinions on the issue.

I think it all comes down to what you want to get out of the game. If you are a casual player and just want to do moves but don't really care about really understanding the game and getting to a competitive level, then online is great. But for those who want to play to win or improve, after a beginner or lower intermediate level, I think it actually does more bad than good. I understand how it seems like a godsend for people that dont live close to any other VF players but if you have at least ONE person to practice against, I would recommend that over online. In addition, the higher ranks expert level quest are great for learning bread and butter vf5. I would much rather play quest mode than online but I do sometimes make an exception if the opponent is less than 50 miles away.

Hey hey i don't agree... I'm italian and here no one plays vf in my city... (i don't live in a big city)
So i like a game which i can play online with other people. If you have friends to play with ok, but there are people that don't.
Online is a great thing and a vf5r without online....... <_<''

It is people like me that want the option to play online. Since it is very likely I will be working a lot in the year to come more than I do now, and won't have very much time to go to other people's houses or host a gaming session myself because of my work. I want it to have online play but it doesn't then I will get anyway because I will want practice all of the new moves I could only see on youtube all these long months.

I firmly disagree with it when people make comments like these. Not angrily disagree, or disrespectfully disagree, or anything like that. But, i was dominating the computer AI on normal mode, and hanging with it on expert, and when i went online EVERYBODY whipped me. I remember when i was 'playing above my level' putting strings together against 2nd dans and excited. My game and understanding of the basics came on online, in a way they would have never materialized off. Not to mention i could dump maybe 60 hours into quest mode and am going strong with over 400 hours online. So i don't know. Prolly is true that some will get better vs cpu and some vs other human players.

I agree with Social Ruin. While I respect LA Akira's opinion (plus the pictures I've seen of your own gaming rig make me look with disdain at my own piece of ass console setup), the ability to play offline has been a positive thing on a number of levels.

Even though it is difficult to practice and develop an understanding of frames, to the degree that offline play can grant you, I think there are other things to be gained from practicing and training in an environment where lag is can be a factor. Learning how to adapt on the fly, and how to deal with a wide variety of opponents are aspects of online play that may be available to people in densely populated areas, but definitely not in my neck of the woods.

And hey, let's face it, where else are you going to be able to practice day in day out on how to deal with people spamming 2P and DM+PK?

I would buy R if it came without online, on a new console, without any other game, even if it was overpriced. lol even if it was on the PS3!

I'd probably get it but I'd still play an online enabled VF5 more than an offline only VF5R.

Offline competition is hard for me to come by so online is pretty much a necessity.

I wasn't a member of VFDC before VF5 came out on the 360. Because of online play I decided to actually improve my game and go out of my way to meet other players offline.

If VF5 didn't have an online vs mode I doubt I would have stuck with it as long as I have. In fact, I know I would have dropped it a month down the line.

Fighting games (especially VF) are all about testing yourself against other people. Online play is vital to the (re)growth of fighting games.

I would definitely get next version of VF whether it had online or not.

    However about online itself:
    + increases VF recognition
+ increases knowledge of the game in spammer->beginner range
+ helps bring in more players because of more people to play against
+ allows for people to practise against each other without travelling
+ More people playing increases chance of sponsored tournaments
+ its a game, dont take it too seriously.

    - Makes people underestimate and misjudge techniques because of online lag.
    - It can be hazardous to your skill if you get used to playing in lag.
    - Its not really that good for high level play.

I sometimes come on shoutbox and rant about online sucking, but thats because Im a tournament level player. Overall online has had a significant positive impact on VF. You may say that it only brings in noobs, but everybody has been a noob when they started.

The sad fact is online play isn't increasing VF's popularity. Something has to change...

The reason was that the game came out at the wrong time.

No one had a 360 for fighters at all- everyone thought PS3 would be the fighters system. Secondly, install bases were low at the time, and finally the game was clunky in interface out of the box.

I think VF5R would do much better, seriously.
More people, arcade sticks, better reputation. It would have to come out before Tekken 6 to have a chance though.
