I am trully sorry for the irrelevant subject, but it is of major importance. Those dumbass motherfuckin greek politicians voted in favor of a law that bans all forms of videogaming in all public places and even in OUR HOMES. The first time I heard about the law, I thought it was only a bad joke, but today I went to an internet cafe to play multiplayer games and the staff said that they had to delete them until further notice. I MEAN THAT PLAYING VF4 ON MY PS2 (DC still rulezzz) IS CONSIDERED A CRIMINAL ACT. THE MOTHERFUCKERS SHOULD ALL DIE...THE WHOLE LOT OF THEM. Sorry for the language but....SHIT, that is so paranoid. Below there is a link that leads to a poll where you can vote against this fucking law (this is fascism...)

If I read your link right, it's PC games, but nothing is mentioned about consoles or upright/coinop machines. Are you sure about the PS2? Sony's gonna be thrilled if only PC games are banned, that means more people would buy PS2.

Well, either way, whether it's just PC games or all games, greece's politicians are reactionary, paranoid fascists. A lot of bullshit about video games gets spewed in the USA, but at least there haven't been any kneejerk bans. Just a discreet usrb rating. Something's fucked about greece's lawmaking system, this can't be the will of the majority of people in greece.

PS: thread moved to general, but I'm glad you noticed and took the time to say something /versus/images/icons/tongue.gif

What the law states is that all kinds of "electronic mechanical entertainment games" (the politicians' translation for videogames) are banned. The reason u read pc games is that the link comes from a net cafe where they operate only with PCs. Anyway, not that anybody will obey to that law...

How could they do that?! I'm a Greek person myself and belive me, I could almost KILL for Video games. They have ESRB ratings, so why ban them?

By the way, the law does not state clearly that console gaming is banned but this still SUCKS

va, sorry to hear that the law definitely bans all games. That means even those goofy little tiger handheld toys are banned.

When you say nobody will obey the law, do you think that means:
shops and arcades in public places will stop carrying games but people at homes with PS2's will keep playing?

Or is the law not even taken seriously enough to have arcades remove their games, or to have internet cafes shut down? (it sounds like at least one net cafe is taking it seriously)

Do you have shops like babbage's and electronics boutique, which are devoted to selling almost nothing but video games? What are those shops gonna do? And what about regular toy stores, will they stop carring consoles?

Why is the world going though dark times? I mean, the polliticions at greece are losing their minds, osama killed tens of thousands of people and bush ain't really doing anything about it. Could it get worse?

What the hell is wrong with Greece?
They let ppl walk around naked in beaches, but they're paranoid about Yahoo!Chess????

I'd leave the country if they got that fascist...who knows, the might start banning TV or DVDs after that...if they ban ALL video games, where's the limit??

This is just insane. Going to ask my cousin in greece about this. Interested to find out what the general populace thinks about this.

On a side note, na pane na gamithoune.

Just to make things clear, I have to say that this law is not going to last for a long time. The law was voted because many people opened a net cafe but then turned into online casinos(of course this is a minority) and the government tried to abolish it by this law but as politician know SHIT about PCs,consoles etc all kinds of games were caught into the crossfire. The net cafes that were shut down were online casinos not real ones. The reason that all greek gamers and net cafe owners complain is that the law is not changed yet. But this will happen soon. /versus/images/icons/confused.gif

so...what we're left with is you saying, "that statement is stupid and I'll declare it as such but I won't try and make you aware of why. I'm content that you know how much smarter I am because I recognize it as stupid".

    OOOOOOOOOOOOOOK, ill bite.

Quote: Why is the world going though dark times? I mean, the polliticions at greece are losing their minds, osama killed tens of thousands of people and bush ain't really doing anything about it. Could it get worse?

My reply: Osama didnt kill TENS OF THOUSANDS OF people ya freaking drama queen, in fact as far as we know he didnt kill a single person.
His cronies however killed around 3000 innocent people the last few years in several terrorist attacks.
Bush is doing too much, waaaaaaay too much at the moment and is adding oil to the fire, now its not only the people directly effected by US imperialism who are opposed to the US but a lot of the US allies as well.
So yah it could get a LOT worse.
The world however is running its course like it always has, politicians in Greece havent LOST THEYRE MIND, theyre just as misguided as they have always been( just like anny other politician in this world), youre just over reacting becouse its an isseu that touches you directly, we all know that once the dust settles the law wont stand.
Can I ask you what prompted you to make those wild totally unrelated statements about Osama and Bush in a thread about the Greek government allegedly outlawing vieogames?

Now, now lets get serious this statement its all wrong and mister vavavoom even if live in GREECE he doesn 't know whats going on. The polititians ban the illegal videogames like the<one arm robber>and other casino games that they have been used BY ILLEGAL internet cafes and they stole people's money.SO please the next time vavavoom has great ideas like that it's better to have correct information about subjects like that because it ruins our image as a country and as a nation words like<fasism>.At the end i like to inform the all who is going to read this that ELECTRONIC ENTERTAIMENT IS NOT ILLEGAL IN GREECE!So lets all enjoy VIRTUA FIGHTER 4 all over the world and of course in GREECE.
    P.S

read the title, dumbass....OK, so i made a few unrelated things, SO WHAT! The screwheads in greece really HAVE lost their minds! If you wanna defend them in saying that they're misguided, that's fine, but the greek politicions are still gonna belive that they're right and they're very well gonna be pissed at you too if they're reading this. And maybe i shouldn't have mentioned dark times, or america. There's just been alot of things going on in the world now. and i, for one belive that bush is a screwhead! (no offense) And cut the smart crap already, man!

vava did post and acknowledge that some internet cafes turned into casinos, however, he also said:
"What the law states is that all kinds of "electronic mechanical entertainment games" (the politicians' translation for videogames) are banned. "

This means all games if it's a true quote, not just "internet cafes that support gambling"... Are you sure the politicians used words that mean one-armed bandits and internet casinos? Maybe they should write their laws more carefully, if they meant to ban only the gambling games.

If you go into a store that sells video games, do they still sell them?
