If people are being lured away to another game, then you have to look within for the reason. Many people are quick to blame other games but people who are a little interested in VF won't go to VFDC to look for matches - they might not even know it exists. They'll go to ranked/player matches and if nobody is there to play, that little interest they had with VF will disappear. Add to that the mindset of paying for something only to find nobody else is playing it now! If it was free, they wouldn't feel this way.

VF4 Evo and VF5FS are the most accessible and most fun fighting games your money can buy. EVO 2012 and the two SEGA Cups were all about people having fun with the game, enjoying every fight and talked about VF with passion.

About a F2P VF: I can't really imagine that there are gamers who want to play VF, but they are not willing to pay $12 to buy FS, a full-fledged fighting game. Do you think that a F2P VF will convince them to invest money to buy DLC (like $5 per character), fighting sticks, even make trips just to participate to national and worldwide tournaments? FS is cheap. $12 is a steal. I want to support SEGA for giving me such a wonderful game. I can't do that without giving them money.

I bought VF5FS plus all the dlc because I wanted to support the game and I really thought the game was worth it. But I wouldn't spend money to tryout games I'm unfamiliar with, I'd download the demo first, even if it was cheaper than the price you quoted. I don't want to pay money for something I'm only going to play once. I guess it depends on what the F2P model is like, without that, you can't really make a good judgment on whether it will work or not.

Yes, but as consumers we have many alternatives. We have all the information we want. We can read reviews, watch video reviews, ask other members of the community what they think about a certain game etc. It's not like we buy a game, blindfolded. I want VF6 to be special and worth my money. Nothing less.

I agree that most people buy things having done some research first, but nothing is like playing the game itself. Devil May Cry is supposed to be an awesome game, but despite the reviews and my friends hype about it. I couldn't get into it. It just didn't tick any boxes with me. Whereas I had a chance to play Shadow of the Colossus on my friends PS2 and if it ever comes out on Xbox360/One/PC, its an instant buy for me because I've played it and loved it. There are some games on arcade that I tried the demo first then bought it because I liked it.

All I'm saying is that people would be more willing to try something if it didn't cost them anything at all than if it was very cheap. And after trying something first hand, they will have made up their mind whether they like it or not. The fact that if there was a F2P version of VF6 doesn't hinder the quality of the game. That's a separate issue. A F2P will only entice people who haven't decided whether they want the game or not. You and I will probably buy the full product regardless of a F2P version.

I am afraid that a F2P VF6, not only will hinder the quality of the final product, but also it will damage the community. It will create a new generation of gamers, where everyone will be satisfied having a F2P fighting game with two characters and one stage. F2P will give the developers the excuse to give less to the players. Less demanding players mean lazy developers. I don't see how a community can grow like that.

well this all depends if AM2 are the types to be lazy developers. plus, a company named valve had a very famous game called team fortress to go F2P and that din't hinder the quality of the game at all.

Yes, but Team Fortess is not a fighting game.

hmmm can't argue with that. but still what makes you think AM2 will be lazy if a F2P model hits?

Well, I am not worried about AM2 being lazy. I'm worried about gamers (in general) who don't want to pay to play their favorite games.

You could say the PS3 version of FS on PS+ was F2P, at one point, but frustratingly (or justifiably some may say), it does appear to lack a few elements that the 360 version has, such as 'players you met' not working, as well as a few gremlins with room stability. The increased lag is probably more PSN in general, and the proliferation of wireless mode on that console.

The kind of player who drifts from fighter to fighter looking for God knows what, I'm not sure VF needs to bend over backwards to accommodate them anyway? If the series doesn't retain it's stoic individuality, then I think you'd see large scale hemorrhaging of users within it's key target audience, i.e. the Japanese arcade base.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with someone playing multiple fighting games...
