I think this is awesome news!

I will not be able to go to Evo this year (it's all good, my daughter is worth more than $15,000 hehe). But...

I think it's awesome this is happening, I'm so cheering friends on at this event, and I'll be doing what I can to help the VF effort!

      Excellent move, Sega!

      CHEERS!

P.S. Maybe Sega can arrange for Japanese "Star Players" to get paid some amount to... instead of playing in the tournament... Play an exhibition series with the Top 2 or 3 at Evo? I mean, there is prejudice but this is an "appropriate" way to deal with this issue imo. And I'm cool with say, Gamerbee, playing in the tournament. Not that ShinZ would be coming, but I'd also propose he be contracted as a star player for the exhibition series :p An arrangement like this could also let Yosuke play in the tournament and technically other non-star Japanese players too. Heck, I'd be willing to donate a bit to the "VF Stars Pool" :p

I'm a little bit disappointed. Altought it will be nice seeing a nice game like vf5fs a the evo, that's really unfair. The evo is in July, that means even if SEGA announces the game comes out TOMORROW western people have only 2 months to practice. But japanese had like 2 years to reach top levels. that's unfair to my eyes.

Hell yeah! [IMG] Brilliant move, Sega! This is the best possible news that could've been announced today!

The exposure meter for FS is gonna go through the roof now. I just really hope that the game comes out before EVO so people can practice! Also, I wonder if FS will be streamed? I know EVO's schedule is pretty tight. Anyway, I can't wait for this! (Wish I could go!) Thanks, Sega!

Maybe it's time to set up an EVO attendee thread so we can set up carpools/room shares/before-and-after-parties etc? I'm definitely going.

Also, Chanchai, I think Razr-sponsored Fuudo and Itazan will be there for sure, and I'd wager Chibita will likely show up as well. We just need to convince some other JP VF players that a summer trip to Vegas will be AWESOME!

it is too bad,but even if the release date had been parallel the gap would have been insurmountable

Ok, I have comfirmed with Mrwizard (Evo Director) that we do not have to pay the Evo Registration fee for Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown.

Sega will be taking the registrations.

Extremely smart business move from Sega. Some people will play just to try it out, others to get a piece of that pot. And perhaps the Japanese will grace us with their gdlk-ness. Either way, it's maximum exposure for FS.

Still wish the announcement was a release date though... [IMG]

While this is exciting news I can't help but not be to thrilled. The game is not released, we don't have a release date and even if it's released before EVO there is just not enough time to learn enough to compete against the Japanese players.

I say Sega should just write the checks now and get it over with... just saying!

I think you can infer from the date of EVO being in July, (and infer from my inference) and the fact that the game is finished at at certification, that it will be out in JUNE.

I predict early to mid June latest. Possibly part of XBLA's summer of arcade promotion, which would be very smart.
