Money is paid down to top 16, 15K!!!

At most there will be 3-4 Japanese players, and we only know for sure that Fuudo and I think Itazan are going to be there. Placing second or third in the first major for FS, where NOBODY EVEN KNOWS HOW TO PLAY VF PROPERLY besides the few vets left seems very possible to me.

I don't see what the problem is with going.

again my MAIN gripe right now is affording to go there. that is all. [IMG]

At most 3-4 Japanese? At Evo 2007 there were 5 of them. I'd assume with a pot this big there will be more. Also, Flash stated my sentiments exactly, with competitive people it's about knowing that you have the potential to win.

Me and Flash both attended Evo 07 well knowing Itazan and other Japanese were coming and were we scared? Hell no, that's cause we have that competitive mentally. In this case however, there just no way we will have that with about 14 hours of play before EVO. It would be hard for even the most competitive person to trick themselves into even believing they have a hint of a chance this time.

Quoted for Truth.. Unlike Most of You I play VF to have fun, Get better and Whoop ass.. Im not a tourny heavy player but if there is a VF gathering or tourny within my parameters im there full auto.. I have 4 Kids and they get all my money and Time.. I still find time to practice after homework Daddy duties are done and when i do i go hard because time is scarce for me.. With all due respect most of you talking shit about being scared or bashing people for gooing never even got better 5 years later. Im not wasting money traveling even with family out there just to play a few game of VF and make back a fraction of what i spend..I believe in playing or being competitive on even grounds and knowing you fighting for anything other than top 4 is bullshit.. Nobody can tell me otherwise. With 15k on the line what the fuck makes you think more won't come out the wood works? Like Sega won't send star players to make the good like good? I don't know what the fuck most of you see on the america streams but i know one things for sure... The Basics are surely lacking. Without that you really don't have a fucking chance.

I might suffer from a case of foot-in-my-mouth when EVO rolls around, especially with sponsorships 'n all, but something tells me I doubt all of Japan will fork over $1.5K each on a plane ticket for a tournament with a mere two months notice. I dunno.

Now just because I said that, I bet a truckload of STAR players show up. :p

No show up for Evo = No love for VF?

Even we are allowed to have one more year to prepare, can we close the gap to reach JP level? If you guys can take a week off and afford the plane tickets, just have fun there! [IMG]

Everyone have their own reasons for going or not going. That is fine. To belittle and insult others for reasons such as "fearing Japanese players" or "everyone at Evo are just going to be scrubs" is uncalled for. All it does is just start a flame war.

Instead of taking the time to insult each other, why don't everyone just do what L_A wrote earlier:

Edit: You can express thanks to SEGA through twitter and face book. Also by supporting your local scene.

Well, yeah, this could've been avoided if it was "If you have time and money, SHOW UP!"

The Japanese have a 2 year head start on everyone.

Guys this is the truth right here, let us all once again trust in LA. 3 Weeks of R play with garbage tier shun? On a cabinet too which I doubt meant playing 12hrs a day.

I'm not delusional of beating the likes of Fuudo and such but I'm going to give it my all and train my ass when FS releases ASAP. 1 month of practice is all I ask for.
    12. BLACKSTAR
      BLACKSTAR
Well, if people don't want to go, that's their choice. I respect that, especially if there is sound reasoning behind it.

But I also look at it as, 'hey, that's one less player keeping me from dat top 16 kash-munney! >:)' Especially good for me if my skills are leagues worse than the competition(though I am definitely putting full effort into my VF training).

On another note, I'm about to buy my plane ticket ($325 from ATL, which is much cheaper than what I originally thought, considering the airport's a Delta hub), so if anybody has solid plans on sharing a room, let me know ASAP so I can snatch this plane ticket!

im gonna repost this from what i said on shoutbox since im lazy: [IMG]

[x] Sudden_Death: i think it all comes down to the incentive, that you MIGHT get your money back from the trip. cause for some people, meeting and playing top japanese players its somethign they already did...so...theres not a NEW incentive...na mean?

[x] Sudden_Death: thankfully not many people think like this and ARE supporting the game! so I thank the people who either sacrifce it for the love of the game (super hardcore to the extreme!) or just plain rich (not really rich...but you got money :p)

      /copy n paste finished.

      more to say below:

by the way keep in mind this is from what I - THINK - some players are thinking as well as my own opinion. please do not attack me cause of the fact that I actually dont go to any big Vf gatherings anymore (yes, i used to go...) I can have an opinion just like everyone else.

This trip is quite expensive JUST to support the game you love, i dont think wanting a better incentive is a bad thing, its just that supporting this game like THIS (going to evo) is fuckign expensive! if im making the effort of going and paying all that money, whats in it for me? lets see:

      1) supporting the game i like therefore making it have a bigger audience and more players to play

cost: $500 + average (within US)

worth it?: no self satisfaction since its not guaranteed. long term satisfaction is not worth paying $500 plus for HOPE of this actually happening, rent is coming soon :p, it better be worth it and want to see it NOW.

      2) meeting top japanese players and learning from them.

cost: $500 + average (within US)
worth it?: for some this is nothing new and learning something from top players is a moot point since....we dont even know the damm movelist!, so learnign will be like "how did you do that move?" something that easily time with the game will fix. for some, learnign from top players is knowing new "technology" if you know what I mean (new techniques, system bugs that we dont know ect...)

3)finally meeting and playing other VFDC'ers offline and having a tourney!

cost: $500 + average (within US)
worht it?: noone knows how to play the game, so we are spending quite a bit of money just to socialize and fuck around in a game we dont know nothing about, (watchign FS videos 24/7 dont count). now, i might be wrong but, i dont remember we had a big gathering JUSt after a new VF came out. usually we let people have some time with the game and to make plans for travel, I dont remember this happening less than 2 months before a new VF game is out, unless!...its a local thing, which costs a LOT less. [IMG]

      4) A new chance to redeem myself for not supporting VF when it was at evo last time in 2007.

cost: $500 + average (within US)
worth it?: unless I know a LOT of VF players will come and support it as well, it will be worth it. If they dont show, my mind will tell me "the few, the proud!" but my wallet will tell me "mission not accomplished, not worth it...rent is due!" BUT!, this is a very selfish thign to think, and if everyone thinks like this noone will come! so, its a hard choice......UNLESS, theres a nice incentive that makes me go "fuck the rent, this is sooo worth it".

this is getting to be an expensive hobby, and there nothing wrong in asking what's in it for me. sure, we would all love to help the community at the same time but life priorities are more important sometimes..unless, there's a NICE incentive that overrides life's priorities. I remember helping to pay for the FT machine's board ($1000 bucks!) a crazy amount of money that I sacrificed just to have that board here. was it worth it? HELL YEAh, I got so much fun out of it. Now, is going to evo worth it from what im getting out of it (see the 4 reasons above)?, for some people where funds are limited and the reasons / incentive are not enought, then no.

on the other hand, if you think this is worth it FOR YOU and think the amount of money is nothing compared to what youre getting AND got money to spare, then you better go to evo, because if you have all this going for you, you cant complain if VF fails. for the rest, dont blame then since i beleive they have a legitimate reason not go to.

BTW, are we planning any VF Gatherings around Evo yet? ^_^

I heard there was a lot of activity around Evo Worlds 2k7, and I personally love VF Gatherings.

Despite the assumption that I won't be going to Evo this year, I would still love to hear about all of the gatherings and sessions going on around Evo--they're a North American VF Staple!

nice post but from NY my tickets is $400 and better. Can't front i would love to gain experience and knowledge from the Japanese.. I would love to meet some of my VF counterparts but for me its a no-brainer. To all those Going just have fun and take pictures.. Give shouts on the stream.

Negativity has never grown any communities. Back in the mid 90s, before Evo, the Cannon brothers ran the battle in the bay tournaments as a hobby because they loved the game and wanted to grow their community. There were no sponsorships, no capcom, no namco, toyota involvement, no streaming, nothing. They advertised the gatherings through irc and with persistence, they were able to grow EVO to what it is today. It's easy to look at the end result (which is todays EVO) and say, I want that for my game but forget to notice all the 15+ years of hard work involved in getting there.

In my opinion, the fact that we have a new VF game at EVO that will get to be seen by over 100k fighting game fans is as good reason as any to be supportive of the event and the fact that Sega pushed for this to happen shows me that we have their ears. Whether you think you can win or not or whether you can go or not, I'm hoping a majority of the long time community members can see that it's in their best interest to stay positive in what could potentially be the last time Sega decides to stand behind this game outside Japan. In addition being inspired to improve from beatdown sessions from some of you veterans, your attitudes towards the community and events (whether you agree with them or not) have a large influence on how new members see things.

I realize this isn't the optimal situation but this is surely an opportunity to ride a big wave for all of us and who knows if and when there will be another one like this.

I'm not trying to lecture anyone. I just want the people here to make the best of a good chance to get something we've always wanted, which is our game to be relevant in the FGC.

All I have left to say is I'm not apologizing for voicing my honest opinion. While some of it may have seemed harsh or like I was attacking people... trust me I was not. Everyone needs to lighten up and in my opinion warm up to honest criticism even if it comes out fucked up. Being able to accept criticism in my opinion will only make you a better person in life and also a better player in VF if you are being critiqued on the game. You have to always remind yourself, it's just someone's opinion so why are you letting your underwear get twisted. I think the things I wrote wanted to be said by someone else, but most people here in my opinion are just to afraid to say it because this community has this "oh we are the nice guys" image that people feel needs to be upheld.

As for supporting VF, Sega and the community? Well once the game is released Sega will get 2 purchases from me for the Xbox and PS3 version along with all DLC content as soon as the game is available for download on day one. For Sega's piss poor planning in my opinion, I think for not being able to waste 1K to attend EVO2012 this should be enough. I can only hope Sega does some VF promoting here on the East Coast that way I don't have to keep throwing away 1K here, 1K there just to go "YAY I played a game that's not out and some Japanese God raped me!"

Good luck to everyone who plans on attending. Please do your best to represent the game well and not make it look dull during the stream. If VF is at EVO in 2013 then I can assure you I will be there and I will not be afraid of the star players not that I am afraid of them now. At least in 2013 I'll know my move set, have found a character that suits my play style and understand the system of the game. At that moment spending 1K won't feel so bad as it does right now heading into this blind massacre.

You know what now that I think about it in terms of dollars I am definitely glad I am not going. Let's look at it like this.

VF tournies were announce at the Southtown arcade. So say I wanted to go to JUST one of them from NYC?

** Round trip ticket $350+ and that doesn't include hotel, food and travel expenses.

      ** Next up Pax East
Car rental $200-300 dollars for 3 days - $60-80 bucks for 3 day pass (sorry can't remember price of PAX tickets) - still have added hotel, gas, food, etc

** Next up Invitation event starring Fuudo & Chibita
Another round trip to LA @ $350+ and that doesn't include hotel, food, DRINKS this time most likely and travel expenses.

      ** Now the Killer - EVO2012
$1,000 and counting with ZERO chance to make back all the money I just spent for a game that is STILL NOT OUT, but I'm pretty confident the date will be announced at the Invitation Party starring Chibita & Fuudo

Now for all the people who aren't loaded is it really worth it? If I lived closes to any of these events I would be there in a heart beat, but unfortunately I live clear on the other side of the nation and I'm definitely not loaded.

Mind you this is all to play a game that is not out yet!
    19. L_A
      L_A
Everyone that travels to EVO is loaded? How do all the players for other games make it out there?
Just curious, what would make you happy?
    20. akai
      akai
I definitely am not loaded with money. I would say it is worth it for me--Pre-launch party, UFGT8, most likely STA 1.5, highly unlikely Evo) because I have a goal of wanting to support and build on our small community.

Everyone will have their own level of comfort on what they can do to support the community (and there is nothing wrong with whatever level it is). All I know is that in the not so distant future, whether or not VF grows in popularity, I want to be able to say that I have done everything that I can do to help support the VF community and not regret it.
