Virtua Fighter 5 "plot" summaries!

OK, I realize that next to nobody plays VF for the plot, wonderfully lame as it is, but I'm sure there's at least a couple of people interested in finding out what's happened, story-wise, between 4 and 5. I'm getting this info off of virtuafighter.jp, and rather than doing a direct translation, I'm summarizing it. It's far more entertaining that way.

Anyhoo, Kage manages to infiltrate J6 with those cheap bastard ninja skills of his. His intent: to destory Dural (who was made from his mom, just in case you didn't know!). He succeeds, causing him to cry, in a rare moment of wussiness. Come on, ninjas don't cry, I mean, they can cut off heads any time they want to! (Come to think of it, though, I did see him all weepy in a doujinshi once, but it was a far different context. I think the less said about that, the better.) But wait, is it mommy, or is it just... one of the mass-production Durals!? SHOCK!
So following this, J6 realizes that the mass-production Dural they've been working on is actually kinda crappy and needs more work. And now they really need another human test subject. Originally they were looking at Sarah, but after seeing Vanessa as her guardian, they're all like "Screw that, let's grab THIS one instead!" So Vane's whisked back to J6 HQ and subjected to the usual regimen of experimentation and strength augmentation, with the intent to make her the base model for the new Dural. But before they're able to complete the Dural-ification process, she vanishes, leaving them wondering how the hell that happened - is there a traitor in their midst that helped her to escape?
Oh well, no biggie, because they saved her mental data in case something like this happened! They decide to chuck this into one of the new mass-production Dural prototypes and are pleased to discover that it improves significantly over the previous Dural models. Hence, a new breed of Vanessa-clone Durals is born, called the V-Dural.

If you're thinking this sounds like the NESTS thing from KoF, you totally are not alone. Come on, guys, cloning plots are so 1999.

I'll get around to posting individual character summaries in a bit - still going through some of those at the moment.

 

So... is Dural in VF5 at all.

I guess she is still the " boss".

AKIRA

Akira got his ass handed to him in the semifinals by a cheap-ass ninja bastard, which incidentally happened last time as well. Irritated with himself due to his sucking, he goes to a river to meditate, and comes to the realization that he needs to go with the flow, rather than against it. Yeah, whatever.

LION

As hard as it is to believe, it appears that Lion actually won the tournament. (either that, or I'm reading things incorrectly.) So he's pretty happy, since now his dad's got to release him from family obligations and now he can just totally chillax for a good, long while. But alas, whilst fumbling through some papers, he discovers that his dad has connections to J6. It sticks in the back of his mind, and when he gets the invitation for the newest tournament, he decides that he needs to enter and get to the bottom of all this. I'm sure he'll manage to do it, after all, he's TWICE the man he used to be!

BRAD

Brad thoroughly enjoyed the previous tournement - the competition was intense, the battle exciting, and best of all, all the female participants were totally hot. Unfortunately, since then, he's been quite depressed, unable to find that combination of hard competition + boobies anywhere else. (Apparently he hasn't tried entering the Dead or Alive tournament.) When he gets an invitiation form the latest tournament, he notices a brand-new female participant and perks up noticably. (lol "perks up") So off he goes, ready to fight again, and hopefully snag some poontang this time around. Which may happen, as you'll see later on...

JEFFRY

Oh god, this is SO UNBELIEVABLY STUPID that I am seriously laughing as I type this.
Jeff comes back to Australia and his fishing village to hear that the Satan Shark appears to have vanished. Rumors from the other fishermen suggest that perhaps J6 was actually involved in this. Jeff, being the apparently mentally challenged individual that he is, is basically all "GRAAAAAAGHGHGHGHGH THAT SHARK IS MY RIVAL ONLY I CAN UNDERSTAND AND DEFEAT HIM" and goes off to fight J6 and, uh, get the shark back, I suppose. Yeah. Thankfully, this is the worst it gets.

EILEEN

A precocious little orphan who lives and trains with her grandfather, Eileen saw Pai perform on stage one day and became absolutely infatuated with her. She wants to meet Pai in person, no doubt to satisfy her budding teenage lesbianism. Hey, she's gotta find herself sometime.

EL BLAZE

Blaze is world champion in the lightweight wrestling leagues, where his speed and technique are unmatched. Feeling the need to aim higher, he decides to do just that - and decides to challenge Wolf, a heavyweight wrestler he has long been envious of.

AOI

Over the course of the previous tournament, Aoi met a man that she was quite impressed by - and perhaps may be romantically interested in. It doesn't mention who he is, but he's described as flirtatious, and "having fancy footwork and powerful kicks." Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh god. D:

You know, I'm honestly surprised and quite relieved that nobody has yet drawn loli-porn with, like, Wolf raping Eileen or something.

Anyways. Let's continue with what I suppose is the major plot "arc" of VF5...

JACKY

Life's actually been kinda shitty for Jacky recently. He's worried about his sister, his sponsors were being harassed and pulling out, and now Vanessa's gone and disappeared on him. But he's trying to look on the bright side of things... and sure enough, things start to improve after he finds a stray Vanessa lying unconscious in his house. Still, he senses a danger drawing near, and he's damn well going to do something about about it. Although he doesn't know their true aims, this time Jacky is determined to get into J6 and fuck shit up.

VANESSA

Vanessa went AWOL sometime in the middle of the last tournament, and despite frantic searches, her colleagues could find no trace of her. Obviously some sort of foul play was involved, but there was no evidence left behind.
Her disappearance was a mystery until, some time later, Jacky found her lying comatose in a room in his house. When she came to, she found that her memory from the middle of the 4th tournament onwards was a complete blank. But obviously something went on, since her body shows signs of specialized, rigorous training, and her strength has increased at a rapid pace. You might guess that this sort of thing would turn someone into an emotional trainwreck, and in this case, you'd be quite right. In anguish, Vanessa turns to the Bryants for support. She hears from them about the 5th tournament, and decides to participate to try and get some clues as to what the fuck just happened and hopefully work out her issues.

SARAH

Sarah has grown much more self-confident, though she still hasn't surpassed her brother. Still, she feels responsible for Vanessa's disappearance, since she highly suspects that Vanessa was targetted in her place. She grows angry thinking that there are more, unknown victims out there like herself and Vane. Upon hearing that her brother plans to go totally apeshit on J6 at the next tourney, she decides to do the same by herself. Unfortunately, she doesn't really know the true extent of J6's strength, and may just be putting herself right back in danger's path...

 

Actually Aoi's storyline is completely the opposite of what you translated.

Aoi was very put off by this guy with fancy footwork due to his shallow personality and attitude towards women. She was shocked by this fighter whose attitude is unheard of with other male fighters in the previous tournament. It left a deep impression in her.

All Aoi wanted to do was to beat some sense into the guy, and with that thought, Aoi continued to train. When she thinks of the fact that she can meet the superficial dude again, she is fired up with anticipation.

 

Looking over it again... you're quite right. D'oh.
Note to self: When rewriting, not go off memory when you read the source material while dead tired at 3AM two days ago. It can only end in pain.

Actually, he was flirty and tried to seduce Aoi, but lost all his matches. He is a joke according to Aoi.

 

I can't believe they had Kage win twice in a row... this is the icing on the cake of how un-imaginative AM2 has become.

 

I thought Lion actually won the tournament. Is this wrong?
