Seems like after a decade or so of seclusion and small get together's that VF is finally getting the fame that it deserved a long time ago. Which is strange bc if anyone did their homework about Tekken, namco actually added a lot from VF customization and Techniques to their own game at the release of Tekken 5. I'm just hoping that these banwagoners dont come this game and expect it to be Tekken or SF and ruin the game for us. I've seen too many games get killed bc of the community or the hype it had been given. *cough*SFxT*cough*

But in all honesty I want to know what you guys think how how you feel. I mean, we've been playing this game for years now and it just seems everyone is just now finding out the game Exist lol.

I don't think it's really going to be that popular at all, however I'm just glad to get this update as a VF and (old-school) Sega fan.

I believe femto is right. I don't believe that there are many people (outside this forum) that will buy FS.
SFxT has a completely different fanbase (or better: SF and T), so the people were more electrified to play. Here and there some people might try FS but the majority just read the PSN/x360 update post and will scroll right to the next new stuff…

I've been browsing round random forums and people seem quite hyped about FS, pretty much every forum i've viewed there's a decent amount of people saying they will buy it day one.

I watch a lot of the streams too and non VFDC people seem quite hyped there, even in the chats non VF players seemed quite excited about the game ...wasn't like that a few years back.

At Hypespotting there was even a decent amount of non VF players observing us play, they seemed interested in the game and had nothing but good things to say about it ...and we was playing Vanilla!

Femto and sixtwo what makes you presume FS doesn't have a chance? I could be wrong but I honestly feel like VF has a decent chance this time.

How Final Showdown does will all depend on the community's combined effort. Sega has done and is still doing quite a bit to support this game but in the end, it will be up to us to run tournaments, events, host streams and get new players interested in the game. There are many daunting aspects about VF for a new player so rather than focusing on how complex it is, try shifting the focus to how simple it can be.

    1. If your opponent is attacking, guard.
If your opponent is guarding, throw them.
If your opponent is expecting a throw, attack them.

    2. Show them the game is turn based. If I hit you, its my turn again so I can attack again if I want to. If you blocked my attack, its your turn to attack.

    3. Show them its ok to break the rules sometimes. Despite VF being turn based, sometimes its ok to try to steal a turn by attacking when its not your turn. You just need to be ready to pay the price if they catch you.

    4. Show new players they can stand up to guard highs, mids and escape one of three possible throw directions with the new guard throw escape system.

Trying to impress people with how complex VF is has worked for some but also scared many away. By showing new players just a few simple techniques and concepts that are easy to understand, it might be enough for them to think "hey thats not too bad, I can do this". That is what we need right now.

My last piece of advice is despite how much someone might talk badly about VF, try not talking badly about other games because it makes our community lose credibility and will put the person you are talking to on the defensive. They love what they love for a reason and whether you like it or not, talking lowly about what they are playing will probably not make them quit but rather like it more.

....man I get all that but just like Feck was saying. Its got the hype, that much is for sure. All I'm saying is that these DAY ONE Noobs....how many do you think or going to eject the game and wish they never bought in the first place, come back online and start trash talking the game.

VF isnt a game you can just take one to three days or HELL not even in a few weeks can just be automatically good at. I still didnt study all the frame data on all the other characters but it took me a LONG TIME to learn how to play my character decent.

Just saying, I think these newcomers that are gonna "TRY" the game are gonna crash and burn man.

A beginner should not be worrying about frames.

    Like I said...

If your opponent attacks you, guard.
If your opponent is guarding, throw them.
If your opponent trys to throw you, attack them.

And if you are scared and don't know whats coming. you can hold the don't panic button which is either left p+g, right p+g or neutral p+g.

the game has a lot of Techniques that they will have to put LOTS of time to learn and I mean lots of time. And thats not even the half of it.

"...try not talking badly about other games because it makes our community lose credibility and will put the person you are talking to on the defensive."

This is what separates the true VF fan from the wannabe fan. The true VF fan will ACCEPT other fighting games.

Most of us were guilty of ultra defending VF by dissing other games in the past. Lets show our maturity by showing that we are pass that.

we were young and stupid [IMG]

If a study were conducted you will find out that the younger VF players are most likely to diss other fighting games while the older VF players will accept them.

Theres a stereotype I like about the VF community. VF community is mostly mature, lets keep it that way [IMG]

ps. mature doesnt mean you cannot have fun sometimes (trolling). [IMG]

It's exactly the same for every fighting game out there, it's not something that is unique to VF.

Outside Opinion Incoming (Speaking from my experience)-

I can't really consider myself a part of the VF community yet, though I plan to be, because I haven't really played the series much yet.

I play quite a few fighting games, and have been for a few years now. I had always heard of Virtua Fighter, and when I wanted to give it a try, I went through the character list in an attempt to find a suitable character. I prefer using Karate characters, and I came across Jean Kujo. I was watching every youtube video I could find on him for months. This was before VF5FS was anywhere near being announced to the console. When it was finally, I decided to pick up VF4 Evo, thanks to a friend's suggestion.

Now, in my case, it's a little different. I'm drawn to the game because of a certain character. This is usually what makes me play certain fighting games more seriously. For example, I play Street Fighter purely for Makoto, and Tira made me even consider playing Soul Calibur. In a game like Blazblue, where I couldn't find a suitable character, and I wasn't used to the system, I abandoned it easily.

I only played a little bit of VF4 Evo because the character I really want to play is not in it, but I stil needed the feel of the series (despite being a completely different version). However, from what I did play, I could say that if Jean Kujo did not exist, I would probably play Aoi and enjoy the game still. The series itself has a certain thing to it. There is a load of variety in characters, and they all feel VERY developed. The graphics and music draw me in. And from what I've seen of this community, there are a lot of decent people in it.

Adapting to the game is a different issue though. I can go through the move lists, try to memorize some juggles, but VF seems to make it obvious that is not enough to play on a average level. As for myself, I wouldn't be satisfied with that anyway. But the more casual players may find this a bit annoying. I feel the first thing someone should try to learn is to have a decent defense in this game, or you won't do well. Learning when to attack, instead of rushing. Transitioning between offense and defense. These are things found in all fighting games, but this series so far has given me one of the hardest times. I'm not saying it's extremely hard or something. I think you just need the mindset to WANT to play this game, and not play it because it's getting some hype.

Anyway, that's just my low-VF-level opinion.

Great post, blinding newcomers with science is not gonna help, nor is boasting about how uber difficult it is. VF is enjoyable without having to get into the advanced stuff right away, I know because I enjoyed the series for a long time without having a clue about frame data or any advanced techniques. Heck I still don't really but I plan to change that with FS since it'll be the first time I can play it online.

A beginner learning defense in FS should hold either neutral p+g, back p+g or forward p+g to use the new easy guard throw escape system. For example, if Im a noob fighting wolf, I should be worried about his most dangerous throw which ends with forward. So I hold forward, P and G at the same time. If he tries to attack me with a high or mid, I guard it automatically. If he tries to throw me with a forward direction throw (giant swing or burning hammer) I escape automatically. No need to time anything just hold.

Hi, I'm somebody who's been playing VF casually for about 5 years, and just decided to take it seriously.

The game wasn't all that fun casually, and I wouldn't have kept playing it if it wasn't for quest mode, and that Akira is fun to use.

Now I'm taking it seriously, and it's nowhere near as hard as I expected (That being said, I'm an intermediate Tekken, SC, SF, and Marvel player, and I also have had experience with KOF), and I'm picking it up very fast. It's just way more fun that way. I feel we should try to introduce players to the more in depth way VF should be played, because it's not all that hard, and it's enjoyable.

Hell, the one hurdle that's been giving me the most trouble (Grab breaks) is being fixed with FS, which is making me VERY VERY HAPPY. It may make the grab game less interesting, but it also makes grabs not as strong... Which for me, is something I like, since in VF previous to FS, grabs are stronger than nearly any fighting game I've played that isn't named SF2. I don't want to memorize every grab in the game, though I would if I had to, and not having to do it is going to make FS very enjoyable.

Also, I'm buying it day 1. Can't wait to train against a few of you better players, and maybe learn something.

I have a different opinion on this. The people who make up the community of VFDC is relatively small compared to the amount of people who will actually purchase the game.

During my time at UFGT8, I met a person who had basically no experience with Virtua Fighter (did not even knew "mid" attacks defeat "low" guard). I told the person the basics of VF similar to what LA wrote earlier in this thread and then suggested 5 or so moves to get him started: [P], [2][P], [P][+][G], mid attack, etc. Just enough moves that he can play the basic guessing game of VF. Later in the day, he came to me and say thanks. The basics of the game was enough to let him win his matches against another player. It made my day.

This post resonates with me and I will make the effort to not bash other fighters anymore because I admit I used to do that a lot. Sorry though, for the last line I change that sometimes to most times trolling. Problem, Akai? >:j

All we should be doing now is to try to create multiple VF scenes around the states or where ever you live. That way we can get the fame that this game deserves and we would be able to maintain it.
