Virtua Fighter Music- from best to worst- sound off.

Music in a fighting game has always been a serious concern of mine basically because "IT GETS YOU PUMPED"! and describes the fighter in the stage.

Virtua Fighter 1 had the best high energy electronic music, out of any fighting game and Virtua fighter for that matter. The music was stong and used many unique sounds ranging from high pitched vocals, to traditional fiddles, Overall I think VF1 had the sharpest sound effects and music.

Did it get better in the other VF's??

Well, if anyones noticed, at the time of virtua fighter 2, AM2 was beginning to create the virtua fighter sound, or should I say the Am2 sound, which is very apparent in games like Virtua cop series, shenmue series, etc.

VF2 was toned down in music and sound effects and got even more toned down in VF3. Though, there are acouple of stages where the characters music would be good, like shuns in VF2, Aoi's in VF3, Jeffery's, Takka's, and .. i'm sure there were acouple more, but not many stages had very good music. Kage's was just yucky. Many tracks did get better in there remixed verions, (VF2saturn players would know)

Now VF KIDS.... SD works and I liked this game, to me it felt faster and slightly easier to pull off combos. I enjoyed this game, along with the cool CG cut scenes. The music was pretty catchy, and Shuns music wins hands down for this game.

VF3, was just how can I put it..... Well VF4 makes up for it. Vf4, though not entirly perfect with the music, can get really hyper especially in a stage like jacky's and is beter then VF3. It screams BEAT DOWN.

BUT... no game yet has ever captured the music and sound of VF1. Does anyone know if the sound designer/composer was different from vf1 to vf4?? What are your opinions on the VFmusic. /versus/images/icons/grin.gif

    Booo a poll!
If I base how good the music was on memorability, I think I'd say:
    VF3
    Evo
    VF2
    VF4
    VF1

That's a little skewed possibly cuz VFevo is so fresh in my memory and VF1 I never listen to, but I really like evo after hearing 4's music a lot.

Well first of all, music is sort of like beauty is in the eye of the beholder, except it is really much more of an opinion thing than graphics could ever be. So these are just my opinions.

My opinion is that most of VF4's music blows. It just sucks, and I cannot believe anyone can call it music. It is a bunch of electric guitar mess that I cannot appreciate. I don't even think it is AM2 style music. More like just a mess. There are some decent tunes like in the snow level and the water level. VF1's music is pretty good. I thought VF2's music was pretty good at the time, but now I am really bored of it. VF3 music is different, and while some of the music is really uninspiring, I do like many of the tunes such as Akira's level, Gostroptosis (cave level), Sarah's, and Taka Arashi's level.

From what I have heard of Evo's music so far (I've heard pretty much all of them), I think Evo's music is the best of all VF's so far. I particularly like Jeffry's level music (just awesome), Kage's, Pai's, Akira's, and Lau's.

Music plays a big part in how much I like the game. So far the messy generic and loud music (with no style) in most of VF4's soundtrack has been a big turn-off for me, and I tend to prefer levels just based on how good the music is. Again, VF4 does have some catchy cool tunes that I like, but "most" of it I think sounds like just a mess. I REALLLY want Evo on a console.... really badly. Music plays a big part in that. I just love Evo music. /versus/images/icons/smile.gif

Takenobu Mitsuyoshi did the (most of the) musics from VF1-3. Among other things, he is the voice of Kage-maru in 1, 3, and 4 and the vocal/composer of Daytona and Sega Rally.

    GO GO! SEGA RALLY~

VF4 and Evo were done by people at Wavemaster. I believe Mitsuyoshi still works there but I am not sure if he still does a lot of composition. In any case, he didn't do anything for VF4 besides voice acting.

Now if they got Jun Senoue (Sonic Team composer from SA1 and 2) to do VF music, I would be elated.

Evo music to me is the best. Next comes VF1. Those old-school tunes are hella catchy. VF4 music comes next, with some cool tunes, some bad. VF3 is next to last (more bad than good). And I would rate VF2 music, but I've never really took the time to listen to it.

    Thanks for the info Zero-chan!

I haven't even played EVO yet /versus/images/icons/frown.gif So they revamped all the music for every stage???

I have the official VF4 soundtrack, and the best music off it is Jacky's, Jeffery's, Lei fei, Lion, Venessa's, and wolf's.

Does anyone know about the offical EVO soundtrack?? The great thing about the VF's for the sega saturn were you can play them in your car! (the music that is)

Parts 1 and 2 out of 3 of the Evo soundtrack are up on tbzone if you want to have a listen. I have downloaded them both and other than the fact that every track so far has a very grungy guiter track in the backround (which isn't all bad) then the music is fairly good. It seems that each song has been created to match the theme of the level, the great wall level's track "rain" is a particularly good example. Even though it's fairly random, with some being very good and some being very average, I would definately say it's better than the original VF4. Looks like Evo is better in every aspect /versus/images/icons/smile.gif .

    so clearly to me..

VF2 - akira's music was strong, shun's was nice and lion's was cool.
    VF1 - catchy and sega-like almost a tie with VF2, pai's was awsome /versus/images/icons/laugh.gif
VF4 - meh, it's not great, but atleast it was'nt dead like part 3's some are horrible, but some are'nt bad like akira's or lei's.
VF3 - ok, they were'nt rubbish but they were only "background music" and nothing highly noticable.. infact, if i could choose one or two i liked, i'd say jacky's or jeffry's... wolf's was poor, as was akira's.

I think VF2 Akira's theme is one of the best VF songs...
After that I'd say Vf1, then VF3 (Sarah's was kind of cool) with VF4 last... I havn't heard Evo music yet, but I just don't find myself humming any of the VF4 tunes like I would with VF1 & 2 and even some on VF3...

I Think vf4's akira theme was pretty good. I havnt played any other vf (dont shout noob at me!) But I Like his the best. Lei-Fei's Comes in pretty close...That guitar in the beginning makes you think "bad@$$"

    Makes me think that anyways.

My least favorite would have to be Lions. Lion is my favorite character but his music is a bit...I dunno, cant think of a good adjective but You should get that I dont like it...(ironically, Akira is my least favorite character...)

hey, it's a shame you think that way about lion's theme after the SUPREME vf2 one... i honestly think that VF2 & 1's music is untouchable /versus/images/icons/laugh.gif

gotta love VF1's opening theme, LOL the voice sounds are hilairious... "chit cha!... chit chit cha!" (i could bop to this all day) /versus/images/icons/grin.gif

    1-EVO
    2-VF4
    3-VF2
    4-VF3
    5-VF1
I haven't played VF Kids and Fighter's Megamix in a long time, so i can't really remember their music...

Also, the EVO soundtrack has been released in Japan, under the "AM2MIX" label.
I'll post the name of the tracks later and which characters they belong to...

    My rank list:

1.VF1/VFR-VF1 had sick music and the remixes were godly. Jacky and Sarah own the the original while Pai and Jeffrey hold down the remixes. It was downhill from here.

2.VF2-Not as good as the original but pretty damn good. I'll have to agree with bare_ knuckle93 and Lion's VF2 track was the shit. I also must give two props for for having the ultimate hero theme in fighting game ever. VF2 just had some good fighting music (plus remixes of the classic Bryant themes).

3.VF4-Pretty good. It has pretty good tunes like Lei, Akira, and Jeffrey's. Lion's is the king however. He pimps the game with best stage and the best bgm.

4.VFE-Pretty good but they butchered Lion's theme (they should have just remixed it). Wolf and Jeffery's themes shine here.

5.VF3-Easily the worst in series. The music was just there. Maybe it wasn't loud enough or something but just didn't pump me. If the game was like the intro bgm then it would have the best hands down.

Is it just me or Jeffrey always has a consistently good bgm? His music is always killer.

I have to disagree. Jeffry's music in VF3 was non-existent. It was the only song on the VF3 soundtrack that was just drums mostly... no music at all to my ears. And his VF4 music is VERY GENERIC to me. There is nothing about it that stands out. I really hate generic crap. Though I must admit, his VF1, VF2, and VF4 Evo music kick ass. Jeffry's Evo tune is in fact my favorite on the entire Evo soundtrack.

When I play Versus though, I don't really care which character what ring/level was attributed to. I just care that it looks nice and has nice music.

As for VF3 music, I think it is an acquired taste. I played so much VF3 that all the music is pretty much embedded in my brain, and I do like some of the VF3 music now.

    ------------------------------------

I second that - the excitement level increases more when playing in an aesthetically pleasing stage.

I really don't remember what vf1's music sounds like but it mustn't have been great or else i wouldn't forget.

Under EVO's, VF2 contains the best soundtrack. For some reason, I still to this day love Jacky's and Sarah's bgm's. If it weren't for those two alone, vf2 wouldn't be my second favorite game for music! (and inevitably would be forgettable like vf1's too).

VF4 could be better, in that none of the tracks really REALLY excel in immersing me in their tunes. Like for example, I can't for some reason catch on to the trend that Lei Fei's music is so great, it may be technically impressive but other than that....
    ...it's purely my own taste

Akira's, Shun's, and Pai's stages are the ONLY two I enjoy playing to now. Before I really dug Jacky's theme too but I grew over it. Sorry but I can't just enjoy rumbling in the mellow snows outside Lion's French castle...

VF3 had some pretty cool songs too, like Jacky's which exemplifies Jacky's favorite saying, "come on!" Outside of his, Jeffry's is the only one I think fits the stage and can be considered "fighting game 'music'"

but I agree with most of you guys how EVO has some pretty exciting shit to look forward to. Everyone's revamped stage theme but Akira, Pai, and Lion's I find really suitable and simply enjoyable to hear. Pai's is 'just ok', but Akira's plays all weird now; although his VF4 could be considered ecclectic too, it was at least fresh and invigorating in that I could play my fav characters with the flow of the music to a certain degree. Weird, i know. The architecture and vibrancy in Lion's stage makes for a great setting but the music once again kills its overall feel

Still on EVO, AM2/Sega absolutely nailed it with Jeffry's, Wolf's, Jacky's, and Kage's stage. In other words, the music and the stage itself for the above chars are a match made in heaven. Shun's music and stage are excellent too, but i gotta be honest in saying they're not paired up right...don't get me wrong, Cave level has always ruled!
