Virtua Fighter never to have Tae Kwon do ?

This may have been discussed before but I remember sega was planning to have a Tae Kwon Do character is VF five. Tae Kwon Do is such an established and recognized martial art in the states and the rest of the world. But still not yet integrated into VF after its 5th installment.

Outside of Japan, South Korea probably has the highest percentage of gamers who also closest resemble the mentally and attitude toward gaming as the Japanese. Yet Tekken is the most popular game probably due to the recognition of a their martial art. If they had put a Tae Kwon Do character in the VF series, it may had shared the same status in Korea as in in Japan. Aside from marketing purposes, they should have put Tae Kown Do in the series long before to make the series more complete and reprentatvie of martial arts.

Yu Suzuki stated in the past that VF five was the last installment in the series. So its probably never going to happen.

I think its because Tae Kwon Do is a overly saturated martial art. Its everywhere you look. I think after Tekken, Sega wanted to separate itself from the main stream and have more less known arts. Its just a personal opinion.

As for the last game in the series, I don't know how accurate that can be. I would consider VF:R to be a new installment, though it is a expansion of sorts, its still a new installment. I would HOPE there will be more installments.

Didn't Yu Suzuki leave AM2 ages ago? I'm not so sure that what he says can be taken as the final word now.

Bringing TKD would be a waste if you don't consider making a ZERG fighter.

The entire country would be playing.

I'm with Auvii on this one. I think AM2 always wanted to shy away from the Tekken series, when comes to style(And everything I suppose)

Well some argue that Sarah is a TKD fighter cause of her fast kicks and flamingo stance.

True, but she still has that "Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do" swagger. Hmmmm...Thread won, Marauko WINS!!!!! Never saw it that way.*No wonder they(AM2) changed her style to "Martial Art"* I smell a conspiracy! Damn, I'm bored, AnD HypEr!

I really wish they would have a Tae Kwon Do character. Because Korean kickers are the most pretty in Kung Fu films, especially Won Jin. if anyone knows who he is then hell yeah he is amazing.

But there is a distinct lack of Korean characters in Virtua Fighter the Korean Japanese problem is a not as bad as it used to be, so i feel it is time for a Korean martial artist to fight in this game. A Korean martial artist with TKD Kicks and Kuk Sul throws maybe.

If Sega's smart, they would make the new guy Korean.

"Jun Fan JKD" 'swagger' and TKD kicks with flamingo, you can't stop or top that.

It was too easy of a choice for me to select Sarah.

Yeah, pure Tae Kwon Do as a sport is generally weak compared to other "standing" styles like for example MT. Anyway, this guy is no master...lol /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Tekken's popularity in Korea most certainly has very little to do with the "recognition" of their martial art, since neither Baek nor Hwoarang are that popular in Korea.

The inclusion in the game rather than the characters themselves.

I stayed a summer in SK when VF 2 was out. There was about a 5 to 1 ratio of VF machines to Tekken machines in almost every arcade I went to. Post VF2 it was reversed.

I would like to know your opinion as to why Tekken has become more popular than VF in South Korea.

What about the 2D fighting scene? Do koreans play more SNK games cause of Kim Kaphwam and co.?

I'm not opposed to TKD(both WTF and ITF) but if AM2 wants to differ from Namco like some of you state, maybe they should try with other kr martial arts like Hapkido or the traditional Taekkyon.

Where do you get this, or is this just a claim?

You got some actual proof of this or are you just saying stuff? You could be right about the popularity of Tekken not having anything to do with "recognition" of their martial art, but that doesn't mean the rest of your statement is true.

I presume that you were questioning the gaming culture in Korea.

Is this proof enough, and Why would I just be saying stuff?

Oh shoot, that's cool too man. Your response had more substance to it, so I didn't even feel the need to ask about how you came up with your response.

I was posting about Jeneric's response.

Like I mean, how does he know that Baek and Hwoarang aren't popular in Korea?

Oh, i think i can answer that one i think; you see, they are popular (as in people like their design), it's just that since Koreans are famous for their "playing to win" attitude they are not popular (as in they are not used that much in tournaments where higher tier chaacters are preferred).

That much i can recollect from the days i used to frequent TZ.
