i reluctantly bought the fighting stick 3, but have no regrets. the buttons are nice and sensitive (you could almost blow on them to register an input) and the stick is likewise responsive. the stick and buttons feel good, and i don't have any complaints about spacing or play. like others, i have my heart set on the virtua stick high grade or hrap 3 to become available, but i can't honestly say that the fighting stick has missed any of my inputs or that i have to play any differently because it is "cheapass." if i fail to pull off a move it's on me and only me.

furthermore, beyond the fact that the ps3 d-pad is a d-pad, it has this nasty habit of "disconnecting" when it's least convenient. even if you generally like using a d-pad, the disconnecting part is a little annoying when playing any game. all things considered, i highly recommend the fighting stick. in the past hori made cheap sticks that didn't do jack squat, but the fighting stick 3 is not one of those. besides if you are not keen on the virtua stick you can bet in the future that hori will have a special edition of the hrap 3, you can upgrade then.

Anyone know if the Fighting Stick 3 is modded easily? I cannot stand the button layout. I would like to just switch to the first 3 buttons like the arcade (G P K). When I say easily I mean without soldering. I just got one and am way too much of a puss to even begin to experiment.

It becomes a pain to keep having to change the button layout if im playing with a large group of people.

you have to desolder the pcb to get the buttons off because they are directly attached to the pcb via solder. it isn't that hard to do though. just get a soldering iron and some desoldering braid and put the braid on top of the part you wish to desolder and it should suck into the braid once you get it warm enough with your iron. it is tedious work though since you will have to do it for 8 buttons and 2 points on each button. after you get the pcb off just take off the buttons you want to remove and get some button plugs to fill the holes of the holes of the buttons you removed and solder the pcb back on.

below is a pic from L_A_Akira who gutted a hfs3 for use in his head to head cabinet. it gives you an idea of what to expect if you haven't opened yours already.

Hey 001 thanks for the detailed reply. I've always got the best info from this site. Looks like this operation is way over my head. LA Akira's modd was nice it brought tears to my eyes.

So a question; I just picked up a PS3 and VF5... I have an old PS2 Hori, which obviously doesn't work at base, and I've looked into the possibility of those elecom converters mentioned upthread. Thing is, to get one of those shipped to me from Japan will cost (with S+H) about $35+ USD, so I'm thinking I may as well just order the PS3 Hori from Gamestop.

But I hear it doesn't work with PS2 games.

So I have a PS2 stick I can't use on the PS3, and if I get a PS3 stick I won't be able to use it for anything emulated (like, say, SF:3). That about right? It's not a huge deal, since VF5 is pretty well king in my book, and whatever works for that works for me... but it's still sort of annoying.

    Any workaround to this?

Traded it in towards the PS3. >_<

Seems Pelican has a converter of its own coming out in.. May or something. I might wait for that.

Anybody aware of a PS2->USB converter available in North America that actually works?

Well, shit that is quite a pickle. Well, the converter is your only option, or at least a patch (pffft).

    I guess you're stuck playing PS3 games. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

    Jundori,

This might be a really silly question but does anyone know if the Virtua Stickhg will work on the 360? It is a USB connector after all and im sure I remember reading that it worked on windows as standard. Any thoughts?

I think all the ones that can work for the PS3 can work for the PS3.

if you have the means, you can can remove the pcb out of your hori stick and replace it with a psx dualshock pcb and add an analog button to make your stick work with pretty much any ps2 to usb converter to play ps3 fighters like vf5 and t5dr.

it will be cheaper in the long run too considering a psx pad is like $5 and radioshack converters are like around $10. also, if you decide to pick up a nyko/pelican adapter later on you will be able to use your stick with ps2 games on your ps3. (as long as the nyko/pelican adapters live up to what they've been promising)

for your situation since you don't have a ps2 this would be the most cost effective thing considering you would probably need a nyko or pelican adapter to play your ps2 games anyways and the fact that none of the current ps3 sticks out work with ps2 games.

I went to a bunch of electronic stores yesterday here in Tokyo and still no VSHG. I wonder what's going on.

As for the PC, they should. Just as long as it outs a USB. Then you should simply be able to find a driver. If not, well... you're begging for trouble.

Now, I would like to know "WTF" is with the High Grade as well, Makatiel. I'm quite close to rerouting my order to HRAP. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif Pewp.
