If you think it's bad now, there wouldn't be nearly as many people on this forum right now, me included, if they hadn't brought VF5 online. If SEGA can somehow pull their head out of their ass, and it's in there pretty fuckin' DEEP, they can make VF5R a big, multi-platform, online enabled console release.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but people seem to think (me included) that SF4 on console, with online, is a big deal. The game looks awesome and it has been on my radar to the point where it has become THE game I'm waiting for; why couldn't VF5R do the same thing? They just have to show off the game and make people want to play it. If SEGA can can show people the game exists, and "is coming to a console near you," VF5R will sell. I refuse to believe it won't.

They had good hype when the game was released for PS3 but there was no online play (more Sony's fault than SEGA IMO) so it wasn't done right, period. When it came for 360, the online was fast and played great, playing the CPU was no longer your only option. Saying VF5 isn't popular is not true; there's not THAT many older games that you can always find people playing on LIVE, the game has serious longevity. Throw in some more DLC and you've got something.

Ace Combat 6 has 77 different add-ons for download... 77!!! <- That's a lot. NAMCO seems to want to keep you playing that game and keep it worth purchasing as more and more content is added over time, it doesn't hurt that the game is awesome though too; they're keeping it fresh and giving you a reason to purchase or play it again and again...

I think, if VF5 had boku downloads and items, people would play even more, especially if you could win items in online matches. Plus, VF is so deep that mastering it wouldn't be a problem (and they should pitch it that way too). They should express the idea that mastering a VF character is like mastering a martial art. Emphasize the "skill" factor big time.

Don't fool yourself, SEGA can do this if they want to. They're going to have to stick their neck out and make an investment in bringing VF5R to console, but it will pay off, if done right. This is one of their flagship series, it's a crying shame to put so much effort into an iteration of a VF game and not let the rest of the world ever even play it. I would think, these days, it wouldn't be profitable to make any game "Japanese arcade only"... Talk about limiting your audience.""""

Ok, so what do u guys think would make a good vf commercial.
Reading gerns post gave me this idea for a commercial.

Garry Kasparov sweating it out in an intense game of chess. Well the commercial plays it off like he's stressing over an intense game of chess. Only to finally pan away from his sweaty brow, and beady, anxious eyes to show he is playing VF5R. And throws a little tagline out like, "virtua fighter, so deep u can't believe".

 

I don't even know who that is.

Also, it seems kind of self righteous.

An advertisement would have to advertise the entire package.

Show clips from matches that look cool to someone who doesn't know the system.

Things such as:

Throw escapes ( Wolf's 33 P+G escape looks cool).

Counters.

Wall throws.

Juggles.

Irrevocably cool looking moves. (SPOD, full TFT, Goh's SPOD, Shun/Lei Fei in general...etc).

Of course when these clips are being shown every character should be customised differently. Character customisation sells.

If they include online play make sure it's mentioned.

If I had some video capture equipment and decent software on my computer I could show you what I mean.

VF commercial without akira, no deal. He's gotta be in it that's mandatory, it should probably showcase his new spod too.

There's also 2 new characters in VF5R so they should probably be showcasing some of their moves too.

...to be honest, i'm thinking the existing official trailers are pretty good.

haha. I got totally pwned. One of my biggest pet peaves in commercials is i think video game commercials focal point should ALWAYS be the gameplay. Goofy stuff like Kasparaov seems aimed to appeal to the masses, but not those who actually play video games. Oh fail. I let myself down. Thanks for straightening me out. Huge lol, to gerns finishing is off with SPOD @ lei. Great stuff.

 

VF had an add like that once, sort of... It was the dude playing VF2 or something and it's so real his room gets trashed and shit. Anyway, I think that's how it went.

I think having the TV screen crack would be ill though. Like the characters are so real they're trying to get out of the TV set...

 

The Kasparov idea was good but saddly to subtle and highbrow for mass advertising, where jerry springer would (again sadly) work better.

Def highlight the customization. Here's how they should do it. Take a clip of some sweet lei fei combo (or Akira Spod) and have the combo flow perfectly smooth while akira or lei fei is constantly cycling outfits like 1 per sec or something. Would have a nice effect.

Good ending Gerns, really put some thought into it, especially tying in the R theme.

Lastly, of course they would highlight the new charactars most, b/c they just would. but it would be a better commercial if they objectively looked at what was best and put it forth, akira, lei fei, shun, etc.....
