vs Kage

Kage has two powerful stances. He also has tremendous ring out ability that you have to be careful of.

Ring Out Precautions
It doesn't matter how much you were winning by if Kage tosses your ass out of the ring. Especially on stages with no fences or short fences Kage has many ways to ring you out.
Of course has has the TFT, but especially on half fence stages you need to watch out for his normal attacks as well.
Don't let Kage (literally) put your back against the wall! Dedicate yourself to staying as far away from the wall as possible. It's not being cowardly, it's being smart.
Don't be afraid to suck up a little damage either.. Use offensive move or something to escape from ring out danger... Even if you get hit by Kage's /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif at least you won't be knocked out of the ring... The opponent might expect you try to to escape from the situation or abare (attack recklessly) to avoid being thrown so be careful...

The Seven Habits of People Who Deal With Kage's Stances
First you need to remember what moves he can enter his stances from. Then you need to prepare.
If you guard a move that puts him into Shippujin Stance all characters can use low kick to stop his high attacks. Remember low kick will beat whatever choice Kage makes.
As for Jumonji Stance use attacks which can't be sabakied. DO NOT PUNCH JUMONJI STANCE. DO NOT ELBOW JUMONJI STANCE. No super dashing elbow, no beat knuckle, NO NO NO. And unless you want to be humiliated and eat a combo that drains half your life I wouldn't advice trying to a kick against jumonji stance either. THIS MEANS RISING ATTACKS. RISING ATTACKS WILL HURT YOU. When Kage is in stance and you are tech rolling or standing up try your best not to get hit with another attack. DO NOT WHIFF RISING ATTACKS.
Kage's Shippuujin stance is full with long range moves so DON'T WHIFF RISING ATTACKS. Most of his moves out of stance are only one hit so go after him if you block one!

edit: corrected jumanji to jumonji, and hurricane to shippuujin

MMMh so in other words you saied:
1) VS shippujin stance: use a low kick
2) VS Jumonji stance: stay close in defense

O.ò right?

If your character has one it's also useful to use fast/safe knee attacks like Lion's or Sarah's 6+K after guarding a move where he can enter jumonji as it won't get sabakied (elbow would) and still would stop a lot of his followups.

Kage's 66p+k+g can be low blocked, if blocked it moves you very little no enough to get a ring out on you.

Jacky 4k beats jumonji in vf4. can someone confirm the same for vf5?

If /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif is still the knee from VF4 then I'm pretty sure yes. Sadly, people just don't have to fear Jumonji in VF5 -- the stance has been nerfed beyond being useful.

Yup ice it's the same move. You're right though, besides the potential eat a half life combo from p+k+g, it's not nearly as destructive as the new stance.

Let me put it this way...with Kage, I'd rather be in normal stance than Jumonji stance. Shippujin > normal > Jumonji. That's how useless I think Jumonji is, especially at high levels of play where your opponents know to stick to knees.

Best defense against Jumonji at disadvantage? Just block low! Kage can't really do anything against you.

Ok, can I get some advice on how to deal with Shippujin when I'm at the disadvantage?

He has the two full circ low sweeps for a more than generous amount of damage from a low AND full circular move, both both his mid level combo starters work on crouch hit (not to mention the catch throw to beat evade and guard).

Any tips or tricks would be helpful (I play Jacky if it helps to know).

Thanks guys.

Use Jacky's auto punch counter, which would nullify all of Kage's combo starters. Alternatively, you can also evade towards his back to avoid everything but Kage's catch throw and sweeps. Be sure to punish his sweeps when you do finally block them.

Yeah, I've been using the Pak Sao a lot, but my reward is two low sweeps or a catch throw most of the time. I guess I can just mix up between low guard and Pak Sao...
