Another Vs thread, I'm surprised that there aren't more different ones as Jeffry lacks a lot of defensive options to hold his game vs well skilled players with other characters.

Atm I'm playing vs a very very defensive Shun player and I am having an awfull time vs him. His main tactic is to run away and drink, only when he gets at a certain amount will he start attacking because his options and damage will have increased a lot.
I will be running after him most of the time(gotta keep his drinks low!), something I feel Jeffry is not very well equipped to do(slow dash, very linear at long distances). If I get close(enough) he starts evading and crushing my moves (some moves seem to do under jeffs 3k wth?). I nearly ever get a chance to hit k+g so it gives him a lot of freedom to evade.
One thing I have experienced is that I shouldn't rush him down too much, if I make a mistake I will get hit by 8K+G or get thrown and that gives him even more drinks than I have been able to smash off him.
At first I got very annoyed by his fast lows, but I can consitantly see a lot of them and punish them with 6k, but still is mid/throw getaway game is so annoying to play (especially in open stages as it gives him even more space to run away)

What should I be focussing on in this matchup? I'm learning all his unsafe moves right now to stay consistant in defence but I need some way to get the upperhand and teach him that this staying away game of his isn't effective vs me.

lol, does the 0 posts mean no jeff layer knows how to win from shun at all, or does it mean that i'm overlooking the obvious?

Jeff is great at drink-depleting, a combo I posted in the Sobering Shun thread on open stance:
    3K+G_46P+K:2P,9P+G = -3 drinks
    on either stance:
    3K+G_46P+K:2P,2P+K = -2 drinks

I have a lot of trouble keeping in with Jeff vs Shun as at distance he is drinking and crushing even my 3K. I've resulted into using more 2K, 43P+K and 46P+K at distances to get in either with the frame advantage or knockdown, but with jeff vs a good player it is hard to stay in close at all times, you can poke a bit with P+K, 2K+G, 1K+G, 6P, 4K, etc etc but in the end you will need to do some more risky things and throw (also risky if whiffed). The shun I'm playing is hard to throw so I result in using frame adv to keep in and keep doing damage, but if one bigger things is blocked I am already facing his devistating mixups upclose with those superfast lows and mids.

Jeff has it hard against Shun. I know cause I fight a good Shun every week. Basically Jeff has to take risks, play lots of footsies and always input PG and df+PG throw escape.

Worst move for Jeff to deal with is Shun's d+K. Its beats the crap out of mids, even when you have frame advantage. Shun crouches so freaking low that lots of moves can't hit him. Anyone know any of Jeff's mids which can stuff that bull$h!t move?

IMO, besides the reduce drink tips, Jeff is at a disadvantage against Shun and you have to change your flowcharts against him. Is your opponent good at ETEG? If not, the knockdown throw/mid guessing game should work.

I believe 2P+K, and 2K beat shun's 2K when Jeff is at advantage

Shun is a hard match up for Jeffry, but you just have to play patient against Shun. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif works well for me actually. Just remember to punish Shun appropriately if you block his /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif and your opponent will think twice the next time. Use /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif or evade > knee when Shun goes for his BT sabaki. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif is good mid-distance.

If shun is at a real disadvantage even Jeffery Knee will beat shun 2k and its over after that

I really hate Adam's and your knee.

Thanks for the tip KtotheG. I think 2+P+K work better against Shun's 2+K. I think I'll start using that and P+K against Shun close range a bit more.

Ice-9, evade knee works against sabaki? Normally Shun will not do the P after the backturn sabaki and I think he will be able to block the knee in time? I just hate how safe but rewarding that sabaki move is. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

    No problem man

Evade knee should work against the rainbow sabaki, even if he doesnt input the 2nd P. In Ver C the sabaki is -7 on guard so you can enforce nitaku after blocking. but in ver B, which is what you have on ps3, its 0 on guard. lol overpowered much?

Evading the first hit of the sabaki should give plenty of time to knee ( it's 60 frames total, so 60 - 21 == 39 frames to get a 17 frame knee), but I dont know if the followup punch will stuff the knee if its done immediately.
Headbutt will stop the sabaki, and unless it backflops him, you can do the combo posted above to drain 3 dp (/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif,/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif,/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/uf.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif).
/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif also stops the sabaki, although it doesnt do as much damage.

Dont think it was mentioned yet, fully charged /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif is the most straightforward way to drain DP at the end of a round.

If you use machi style to shun, shun player will use throw. I'm sure it.

So, I would not say machi is good for Shun. I guess...lol

/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif still doesn't work against Shun's /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif most of the time. Even when he /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif when knocked down and does /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif straight away. I've tried various timings for Jeff's /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif but I just can't connect on Shun. I've been advised just to take the hits since 'its not much damage'.

Anyone know a good way to hit Shun out of his /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/ub.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif? He's got so many safe moves and its just frustrating having to play so defensive. Even when I guess correctly Jeffrey can't do much to Shun. Its just to difficult to even land a MC knee.

What I do is knee him. No seriously my strategy vs Shun is pretty
simple. Evade more early, TE p+g. Use Jeffs faster options and
HITCHECK very important. As he gets more drinks evade LESS, TE p+g and 3p+g. Sides that always keep his Sabaki in mind.

I also make use of some of his less favored QC moves against Shun.
If only to stuff shuns dmp+k.

Less favoured QC moves? What's that?
On Saturday, Jeffry's /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif completely whiffed Shun's /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif point blank. Arrggh. Its so sad frame adv means squat against Shun.

knee him in the face if you are at advantage. it doesnt fail

or eat the 2K to put you at +10 frames.
