WCG 08 Australian Qualifiers

    News for Australian VFers wanting to enter WCG this year. Currently, our qualification route is going to be via the WCG Asian games.

    The Australian state qualifiers are detailed below:

    to date, only Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide are shown. If there's strong enough interest in your city, then make some noise about it to the organisers.

    What does going through WCG Asian Games mean? Well, I'm not entirely sure but I think the Australian winner will have to compete with other countries in the WCG Asian region in order for a spot in the finals in Germany this November.

    I'll post more info when I know.

    ouch, state qualifiers in exam time

    looks like no show from the perth crew then...

    i'm the only one with the 360 anyway, everybody else uses Ver. B on ps3

    blah, I thought this was played live rather than online, so why do I need an xbox live gamertag to register?, not allowed to compete if you don't have a 360?

    What the organizers probably meant was if Australian VF5 representive do well for WCG Asia this august. The organizers will sponsor him for WCG World Finals. I know there are some organizers who do that.

    But basically WCG Asia is just a side dish kind of tournament. It doesnt affect anything. Australia Organizers probably just want to know if its worth it to send VF5 player to World Finals because it takes like probably 3K USD to send a player there this year.

    I dont know anyone else in Adelaide who plays this so maybe I'll win by default. thats the plan.

    Hi, i was just wondering if you can actually join the VF qualifier in sydney because it says ASIAN CHAMPIONSHIP NATIONAL QUALIFIER (FINALS). Its just confusing me as to whether its finals from the other 2 vf qualifiers or if it is also a sydney qualifier. Thanks for the help

    So, I won the Australian Qualifier and will be heading to Singapore in August.

    Sadly, there were only two entrants /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif myself and a fine chap by the name of Alan. Alan, not sure if you're on these boards, but speak up if you are! Just wanted to say that you put up a pretty decent fight considering how new you are to the game.

    It's a shame the scene is pretty dead locally though /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

    Wow, that sucks, I hoped there would be a better turnout.

    Scheduling prevented me from going and I had to pass my qualifier prize down to another guy, do you know if he went, Myke? A dude from Ballarat?

    I'm sure the organiser will use this as a reason to justify even less support for the fighting games next year, but their lacklustre information, horrible promotion and refusal to place the game in the main event is more to blame in my mind.

    Hey Berserk are you from Melbourne?, I tried to register for the WCG here but you couldn't without an Xbox live gamer tag. I sent an email to the organizers but never got a reply :p, so was it played on Xbox live or what?. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

    Beserk, I don't know if the guy I played was from Ballarat. I had only assumed he was a local.

    Alex, the national qualifier in Sydney was played offline. I can't speak for the state qualifiers though.
