Today was the first of a number of Canadian WCG qualifiers. With the number of contestants reaching a staggering total of...three!...the east-end of the Greater Toronto Area, in a small town called Brooklin, witnessed a trio of fun matches.

The fastest round-robin and double elimination yielded the following outcome:

    1. GodEater
    2. Llanfair

See you at the next one, kids! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I just wanted to thank the group that came to my center for participating in the WCG Qualifier. It was a pleasure to deal with gamers on a mature and professional level. This rarely happens in gaming competitions and I appreciate it. Keep up the good work in this community - Visit your local LAN center and encourage them to host events for VF!

Just a note, WCG Qualifying Centers will be submitting ONLY the top 2 players from each event.

    Hey Bill!

The trip to Brooklin was completely worth it as we got to play in a relaxed and comfortable spot and you were extremely cool about everything (especially my non-stop questions about your business). We very much enjoyed our day hanging at your place

guys, if you're close to Brooklin and are looking for a good spot to play LAN or console games I'd seriously consider dropping in on Bill. Great spot with an interested owner/manager.

    Hey guys,

Congratulations on your win in Brooklin. We look forward to seeing you at the Nationals in Montreal next August.

I was told there was a fairly large community of VF5 players in Toronto. What about elsewhere in Canada? How many players will try to qualify in the GTA do you think?

I don't think many people registered yet for the online qualifier on July 25th. Hope to see alot of gamers trying to get an invite for the canadian championship.

    Cheers

    Stephan

I think it will depend mostly on how well we can get the word out to the players in the GTA. This Sunday is a larger tournament event (T9) and there will be a VF5 tournament. From what I gather, there are 16+ players registered for it. I can definitely encourage as many people as possible to make the effort to register for the WCG events.

I think some of the things that may make the online registration a bit difficult is that the links are not very intuitive (i.e. you have to go through a number of steps to finally find the registration page on iGames, or at High End Gamer, etc. It's just not very clear.). Furthermore, every place seems to want you to register on their forums or site, etc. Makes it a bit cumbersome. I would imagine you'll see more people show up than those who have actually registered online. Actually, when I look at the registration pages, I am the only one who has registered - and I made the effort to explore how the registration process would work even after I have qualified from Brooklin.

Nonetheless, lets hope we can get as many people involved and make Montreal's Finals as much fun as possible.

Would have been nice to receive an e-mail from WCG telling us about these events.

There's a post in Tournaments with all the locations and dates from MinusCA. And the WCG Canada website has them as well. Was there one out west that's already happened?
