Does anyone here use this before? I notice this product since last year and it has a newest update recently. All the reviews are pretty positive and I'm interested in~~ /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

But some users still mention something bug and I'm a little bit confused about it too.... /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif The price is pretty chip ($99 on newegg) to compare with other hd media players!!!

Looks like a decent device. But you could also use - to a lesser extent - your Xbox 360, and - to a greater - your PS3 (when available) or PC for that.

I got my WD TV today!!!
All I can say is AWESOME!!

However, there's something need to mention about that WD TV can not decode "DTS" or "DTS-HD". Which means you need another DTS decoder to make it work.

If you do want to enjoy HD movies on your big TV, WD TV is one good choice!!

"PopCorn MKV AudioConverter" can convert DTS to AC3.
    So enjoy!!

so movies downloaded from the net in HD (usually .MKV files) work nicely without stuttering (like a slow PC would)? if so,....im buying it!

    Hey Sudden~
It doesn't support "rmvb" but no matter 720p or 1080p(.MKV), everything runs prefect!!! No lag!!!!

There is still some bugs but the firmware keeps updating, so don't worry too much!!(It's WD)

The only thing need to consider is you do need a DTS decoder and right now most HD movies from net are with that format. Of course you still can convert the audio like me with "PopCorn MKV AudioConverter".

WD TV is really tiny!!! You can bring it everywhere you want!!!
    Awesome stuff!!

Me too~ I used to watch HD movies with my pc.
But my pc screen is not big and my roommate has a 32" LCD TV at living room. Row I can enjoy my HD movies when I'm eating and share with anyone who comes to my place~~

I really would like to build one HTPC but I can't afford it right now. Trust me WD TV is worth!!

If it doesn't do 1080p/24(Or higher) there's no point. it's just upscaling. Regular 1080p is basically 720p. Not many LCD's(Or plasma's) do "TrueHD" The ones that say they do 1080p is just marketing BS, is just upscaling. if it has the "TrueHD" tag on it, your good. Once you see the glory of 1080p/24, there's no going back. Anyway, good find Dennis, I'll get one of this. A good way to stop using my PC for flicks /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

yeah indeed a great find. I was searching for a DVD player that could play .mkv files and I cant find one, but this one is basically what i was looking for!. I gave my sister (didn't want one for myself cause i was waiting for them to release one with .mkv support..) an Oppo DVD player. until now that was the best thing to watch movies "from the net" since it had a usb port where you could plug in any USB thumb drive and it supported every movie format....except the holy grail, .mkv. the wait is taking too long for one to come out, so im glad i stumbled onto this one!.

it seems its competition is the popcornhour A-110. It has sooo many features that the WDTV lacks (hdd built in and a shitload of connectivity to your pc) but of course more expensive, a very ugly interface and slightly bigger than the WDTV.

after reading their pros and cons I felt the WDTV is for me, i dont mind the lack of PC connectivity or lack of HDD, plus its cheaper!

I'm seeking for this product for a long time, and I know about A110 and some other HD Players. Right now these kinds of products mostly come from China, but the price is really really expensive(around$250~$300). If you have enough money, popcorn is one good choice as well but to be honest I would like to build a HTPC if I already have $300.

However, WDTV has the same chip with other HD Players which means they can do exactly the same thing but it's much cheaper!!

Recently WDTV has a huge update and that's why I decide to get it, the official website announce they are still working on the firmware and keep updating!!!

I forget to modify what I siad, I bought it from Amzon with $101 including free shipping(only take three days delivered!!!)
Newegg has to add the tax and total is about $106. You can also buy this in Bestbuy and probably you can find another cheaper price somewhere. Enjoy!!!!

I just watched FFVII 1080p on WDTV!! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
Every detail runs smoothly better than regular DVD!! Awesome CG!! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbs_up.gif

There are some points need to mention, and I only focus on videos because that's my purpose to buy this product.(Of course you can listen mp3 and browse your pictures as well)
1). go to download "1.02.06" and update right away when you get your wdtv

2). use the same name on both video file and subtitle file, and then you can change different subtitle anytime you want to.

3). if you have a poster(picture) for the video, use the same name as video file. You can browse the video by his picture on menu and it looks so pretty!! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

4). on the remote control, you can "REV" and "FF" by 2x,4x,8x,16x. If you want to jump 10 mins after, press "FF" first and then press "NEXT" and then you can easily shit the time.

5). unplug the AC when you are done. I only turned the power off and next morning I could feel the machine was still warm. I saw the report said it only takes 1W when it stands by and a little bit more when it works.

6). you can play all the videos continuously, just press "PLAY" instead of "ENTER" button when you choose your video.

WDTV is really worth and works so great if you know the proper way to use. Actually there are some other nonofficial firmware allow you to use external DVD drive(such as xbox360 HD DVD player) but I didn't try it.
I'm waiting and expect next official firmware to update coz every time WD makes this product better!!! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbs_up.gif
