What made you like VF, and not another fighting game?

    Ok, I can ask this....

    Well, the question is clear...
I ask this, because it is not very common to find people that like VF (at least, where I live) very much....

The reason that made me like it, was because it was the first true martial arts fighting game... I was sick of those Street Fighter etc... I was starting to do karate, so It was really nice to see Akira doing some moves that I do... No powers, no specials, just martial arts.... Besides being the 1st 3d fighting game that I played... That was also a revolution...

And you can see, the evolution that VF 2 had over VF 1, was the same with VF 3 and VF 4....

I just cant imagine how will VF 5 (if it will exist someday) be.

I'm planning to buy VF 4/ VF 4 Evo for PS2, Japanese versions, altough I don't plan to buy a PS2 so soon....

Maybe you should buy a PS2 and actually play the game before ranting over why you love it so much but yeah, it was cause you get tired of the BS in other games that hooked me and that you never are good enough (and know what you can improve).

I think KiwE meant that you should play it on a PS2 for a long time before you go on and on... which isn't all that nice. I was playing Evo for a year in arcades before I bought it.

KiwE, he was talking about VF in general not just VF4/VF4 Evo.

Yeah, I guess I was being an ass then (just thought the collectors thread without having a ps2 was weird). Well, if we're talking about vf1 I have to rephrase my fine talk about balance and so on and say I just started playing it cause it was 3d /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I got into VF coz I was just lookin for another fighting game, after having been disappointed with Tekken 4 (yes, I was one of those guys, since Tekken 3). I found a friend who had it, and I traded him Mark of Kri for an even deal.

What hooked me about VF is the lack of a god character (except Dural, but she's hard to get), and the fact that there werent any 'cheap' high damage combos readily available. It always pissed me off in Tekken to make just a split-second mistake, and wind up losing 3/4 of my life bar because of it. There's a specific set of characters that have near-unblockable rushes if the first hit lands. In VF, to this day, I haven't been hit with any combo that wipes out 3/4 of my life, and if I have, there were ample opportunities that I just missed to avoid it all.

Plus, Vanessa is more badass than most of them sissies in Tekken :-D

Well, for me it was Sarah in VF2...I liked the way she kicked and I was doing Taekwondo at the time....the graphics blew me away and everytime I played...I discovered more depth to it and it just sucked me in...being relatively good to the local competition is a good thing too :p

When playing VF, its pretty obvious that the developers really looked deep into it. If a move has fast execution and does good damage, it must screw you if it is blocked. Theres no move that feels like nobody ever thought about balance issues (a low kick is uncounterable if blocked, comes out very fast, and can be chained to an infinite, for example).

It's just a much more technical game than other fighting games. For every move, there is a way to counter it. If you know what the opponent is going to do, you can capitilize on it, unlike many other games.

The problem is that where I live, arcades are rare to find... You just cant imagine how happy I was when I found a VF 3 arcade 6 months ago....

Prior to VF4, I've never really got into 3Ds, only having played TTT and SC1 on a casual level. I found those games fun enough, but still prefered the SFs by far. Then I discovered Aoi. I've studied aiki-jj somewhat, and it impressed me that a game would have a character doing a relatively unknown art, with pretty accurate looking moves (at least graphically). I also fell in love with Aoi's throw game- the whole guard canceling into throw stuff. I've been an avid Zangief player, and I just loved offensive throwing. And damn, a little girl breaking bones and pulling people's joints out- there's something strangely appealing about that. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I guess it was mostly that "you haven´t mastered anything yet"- feel, that was so cool about it. I´ve been that same clueless wanderer since VF2 on Saturn, so I think I know what I´m talking about...

Seriously, VF has been the most logical fighter out there, that´s beacuse it´s easy to love it... /versus/images/graemlins/cool.gif

VF1 came with my pc in 1996, then I downloaded vf2 for pc and it was alright, Then I saw vf3 in the arcade, and that was the most amazing graphics at the time for arcade. Then I saw vf4 and i didnt like it! /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif I didnt like character design, voices or practicly anything about it! But finally getting into it I disconvered the level of play to be good was amazing, and the skill invovled. So EVENTUALLY i prefered it over tekken, but I still bought SC2 a few months back, cause Namco does wonders with character design and weapons.
