Ok, I was playing Lion against Akira on Hard Difficulty and saw something I have never seen. Well, have never seen without taking Pai's Reversal Parry into account. Akira Chickened Me!! At least that is what it looked like. /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Here is the situation so someone can explain to me what happened since I didn't think anyone, but Pai (very specific situation) could chicken anyone in VF.

I poke at Akira with a Low Punch [2]+[P] in hopes of drawing a Sabaki situation. He bites and goes for his elbow [6][6]+[P]. I immediately go for my Meteor Punch [2][1][4]+[P] and hear the Sabaki noise, but then I am immediately reversed with Akira's MP Reversal [1]+[P]+[K].

Never seen anything look remotely close to that before. I am at a loss....

Lion's meteor punch doesn't sabaki elbows or mid punches. Akira's [6][6][P] probably whiffed since it has short range. Meteor punch also has a fairly long execution, so I'm guessing Akira had enough time to recover and buffer the reversal. The noise was probably just a glitch or something.

I think it went as you described, tho like lan said the sabaki sound effect was weird. You're positive it wasn't f,f+K or something that akira was trying?

The sabaki does sort of rear back and sometimes an elbow that normally would hit will whiff during the sabaki animation. If no glitches were involved, you avoided the elbow during the early frames of the sabaki with that rear back animation... then, because the meteor punch is deathly slow and akira's dashing elbow recovers deathly fast even when whiffed... akira recovered just in time to nail a psychic kumite reversal. Or else you accidentally went into the second hit of the meteor punch and akira reversed that.

Sabaki attacks can all be reversed normally or even sabaki'd (e.g. vanessa can use a parrying kick to stuff another vanessa's parrying kick.)

Grrr, for some reason I changed it being a sabaki VS knee and was thinking it was against elbow. So now I know why he was able to reverse it, even if it was insane fast. Pretty mindblowing when you aren't expecting the possibility.

I'm positive it was the elbow animation since I got to see it come out, but I guess it missed by microscopic proportions during the sabaki.

I guess the Sabaki noise was just a glitch then. I think that is the first glitch to happen to me other than the occasional teleport during a throw. The throw wierdness has maybe happened twice since I got the game. Oh well, you learn each day. Thanks guys.

Sorry, sudden but I never think of saving replays. /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif
I will in the future though. Hope VF4e is just as easy to save them in.

i think this might have been one of those cases where the Sabaki effect happens (and you hear the sound), but for some reason the Sabaki pushed Akira just out of range of the actual Meteor Punch itself, then he reversed it (there's a lot of time between the MP's sabaki window being effective and the punch hitting). But, since this attack isn't supposed to work against elbows... I dunno.

But, I have seen Sabaki Attacks give the Sabaki, with sound, while the attack portion whiffs many times.

BTW Vanessa's High/Mid punch reversal (b or d/b+P+K) can be chickened with P+G, either right after she grabs it for no damage, or after she takes you down, which lets you get up after taking damage, to avoid any down attack.

That's a REALLY old post your replying to, but oh, well.
Anyways, this happens a lot w/ Lion's sabaki I've found. Since it's so damn slow, you'd figure they'd give him the benefit of the doubt, but nope.

backbonebreaker - if you can get a video onto your CPU, you'd be the first person in the world! Maybe you can aim for an MP3 on your mouse next! /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif
