I am a bit clueless about all the jargon and specs when it comes to HDTVs, except that bigger is better and 1080p (or is it i?) is the best resolution. What are the other major considerations when looking to purchase an hdtv?

go to cnet.com and read their reviews and stuff, that should help you out in deciding. 1080p "native resolution, NO SCALING" is the best resolution for a tv right now.

There is a new HDMI port being installed on newer TVs called HDMI 1.3 which is the fastest HDMI port out, it allows more data to pass through giving the TV the possibility to pass billions of colors instead of millions and True HD sound. You have to check the TVs specs for things that will support HDMI 1.3, like what they are calling Deep Color. Your eyes can see color banding, it is very evident, billions of colors can solve this.

Of course all of these feature are dependent on wether or not the stuff you are watching supports it. It means nothing if you don't have stuff that supports it.

I got a Sony 40' XBR2 a couple of weeks ago and I love that freaking TV. Kong HD was on HBO the other night so I watched for a few minutes, stunning! Everything looks 3D, alot of depth. There are some problems with th backlight on the TV but you be the judge of that yourself. Read up, educate yourself, and then go see what "your eyes" like the best.
